Every Fall through Spring, the poor town of Amherst is overrun with students, and each Summer, they run back to their hometowns, leaving the residents with some time to unwind and breathe. - As a town, it’s a college town — the college kids run the place. And that may mean poor service at establishments, or overcrowding at bars. But well, it’s all right. You can walk into town from UMASS, if you want. It’s a sorta-walkable town. Few decent stores. Some OK restaurants. Mostly a lotta hippies walking around town. Oh well, enjoy your summer off folks!

As progressive as it might seem or even claim to be, it’s not. I am writing this review as it relates to the condition of the roads though I’m sure if urged to do so, I could write about a number of issues in this town as it is full of them. Even as I write this, the town is lacking in the up keep and general maintenance of their roads. It seems it must be a pretty bad prioritizing issue because even as potholes swallow up cars in the center of town, not 200 feet away a new project starts. This happens all over town, every year. They seem to be able to find money for new projects and yet never enough money to maintain what they already have. They seem to be falling into the very trap that the towns people profess against. The ever glutenous attitude of materialistic new projects without taking care of what they already have.
