Had the BBQ burger with fries and it was delicious! Ordered a whiskey ginger ale as well since well drinks are half off on Wednesdays. They also have a good selection of craft brews on tap to go with any of their tasty burgers.

Contrary to other reviews, the service here was really great. Came to average joes around 9 pm on a Tuesday night and our server Alana was very nice and helpful! Although we were very excited to try the southwest and California burger, Unfortunately, these were only served until 9 pm and we didn’t make the cutoff. Since we ordered off the late night menu, I had a buffalo chicken wrap and my friend had a cheeseburger. Our only complaint was that the seasoned fries were very salty. Our server Alana put in a new order in for us, and the new batch was perfect. The buffalo chicken wrap was good, a bit on the smaller side than expected. Overall, I would return to try their raved about burgers probably earlier during the day.

This is a great bar for a good bite to eat and some drinks. They have tons of tvs so if you’re looking to watch a game this is a good spot to do that. They have a large bar, a handful Rolf tall tables, a dining area and a very nice large patio. The bartenders are friendly and always have a smile on their face. The beer selection is great. The menu offers something different for everyone, I’ve never been disappointed with the food. I think at around 10 they witch to a late night menu but there is a good selection on there. I like the buffalo chicken quesadilla, it’s pretty big and stuffed as much as possible. This is also a great spot for late night drinks they do «mug night» on Thursdays and it’s 5 bucks I think for a well drink or draft beer(blue, bud, cheap beer) At around 10 – 11 it’s more of a spot for college kids but there is a fair mix of age ranges on weekends. They also have three dart boards.

Walked in here at 9 on a Saturday to get some food. I was«greeted» by a bouncer with dumb ass fohawk who asked for our ids, I had left mine in the car so I went to go grab it. When I came back in the bouncer stared at me and was grilling me. Shined a light at my license, continued to look at me with a nasty stare. He then flipped over my ID, shined the light on the back and through the ID. It was like he was hoping it was fake. He was extremely rude and it turned me off right away so we left the restaurant without even ordering. It’s too bad this guy was such a jerk because he just Average Joes lost my business. Also he was about 5’5″ and I’m a skinny white girl and I probably could have kicked his ass. Oh and by the way… I’m 22. And my ID is real.

See, someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger has a very distinguished, overbearing jaw-line. As opposed to the patrons of this bar, who all have«Average Jaws.» And someone like David Duchovny has an enormous nose, whereas the patrons of this bar have an «Average Nose.» And a lot of the girls in movies have very expensive stockings and garters whereas a lot of the girls up in Amherst, NY have«Average Hose.» And a lot of the guys do, too. But you wouldn’t want to see them in them. Trust me. What to get: The Southwest Burger and fries. So I gave this bar a second chance, a third chance, a fourth chance, as Michael Stipe would have said. No matter how many times I tried, I could never order a burger off the main menu. The chef wasn’t in, or it wasn’t the right time of day, or even, it was 40 mins from closing and despite telling me I could order up until 8, my order was not taken at 7.20. For these reasons, and for having me drive all the way out there for nothing, I gave them a 2 out of 5. Then I received a very nice note from a very nice woman, and she explained what happened and that it would be better next time. So I removed the review. Then it took me a couple of months to get the chance to try the product, but last week I finally did. Some confusion when ordering. I’d been told to try the WTF Burger, Rodeo Burger, Hangover Burger… I had no idea, so I asked for Rodeo and there was no such thing(I may have been given bad information) but she recommended the spicy Southwest Burger. So I got that. OMGGGGITWASSOOOGOOOOD. I absolutely adored it. It was one of the best burgers I had in town. It came to around $ 10 and it was worth every penny. As you can see from the pic, it was hearty, it was big, it was also juicy and delicious… and spicy doesn’t quite cover it. It had an unusually massive kick which most American places would be scared to go anywhere near because of sensitive pallets. But not here. This place goes all out and puts a fire in your belly. I can honestly say it’s one of the best burgers I’ve had. It’s vying with Vizzi’s as the best in town, it’s definitely up there. I like it way more than Ruzzine’s and it’s 10 times the burger that the bland, awful Grover’s will ever be. It’s better than Founding Fathers by a stretch, and even better than the now-out-of-business Sterling Place Tavern was, RIP. It’s better than the Grill At The Dome in Tonawanda. It’s got 20 times the kick of that«award winning Banana Pepper Burger» that they serve there, too. Better than ABV, Griffon, Joe’s… up there with Lenox. Another must-try burger is the amazing sloppy wet concoction(which is half the price, no less, and not much smaller) at the Shack On Delaware, one of Buffalo’s hidden gems. If you’re a burger fan, and come to town, you MUST try this one, also try Vizzi’s, and the Shack On Delaware. I can’t say which one you will like best; they are all amazing. And now on to the fries. I thought Vizzi fries were good. I hadn’t tasted these ones yet. My GOODNESS they know how to make these things. Jeez. I don’t even LIKE fries. These ones were so crispy on the outside, so hot and juicy on the inside, and so over-seasoned with spicy red goodness, I’ve never tasted such seasoned fries in all my life. They’re by far my new fave fries in town, probably even better than the English Chips at British Chippy. Bravo to Average Joe’s for an amazing burger, and utterly amazing fries. Even if I did have to wait a long time to try it. I will be back! Often! And so should you be! And the parking lot was an ice bowl on the way in and out, but that was because it’s Buffalo and it’s January. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Great location for UB North Campus too by the way. The cops there and I are not friends, but the students(sometimes) have good taste and that’s why they come here for burgers. It’s Vizzi’s for South Campus and it’s Average Joe’s for North Campus. End of discussion. Oh, and the bartender girl… I think it might be the one that wrote to me, I’m not sure. She is absolutely, spectacularly, stunningly beautiful. It might be worth going here just to order drinks from her and tip her. But it so happens that their burgers are basically the best in town and their fries are hands down the best in town and you pretty much have to GETOVERHEREANDTRYIT! Yes yes I know it’s in the suburbs. So is your mother. OK, she may not be, but you know what I mean. Maybe. Or not. Enjoy the burger! And I wouldn’t dress up to come to this place. I’d just wear«Average Clothes.» And I prefer awesome to average. I don’t even like average. In fact«Average Blows.» And I think Counting Crows and Black Crowes are both pretty boring bands. In fact I know them collectively as «Average Crows.» And there were one or two decent Russell Crowe movies but mostly there are just«Average Crowes.» And I think the Simpson’s, in honour of this place, should rename their local pub, «Average Moe’s.» I’m here all week.

This is by far my most visited bar in Buffalo. The drink specials throughout the week are great! My favorite is probably flip night on Tuesdays but I still have to go out and try the trivia Wednesdays.

Sorry have to say we were disappointed last night. We had 45 people on a bus for a pub crawl. We stopped there and the kid at the door bounced us. Big mistake, you guys missed out on a lot of cash and fun.

We go every week for trivia, though recently service has been sub par. The loss of our favorite bartender has impacted our experiences there. Some nights the bartenders clearly forget about us; I realize the bar itself is busy, but there is always a crowd on Wed, why don’t they have a 3rd bartender working? Hoping they get it together, it is our preferred spot for Wed trivia. Updated menu is decent — wing sauces are good, mozz sticks are good, some of the burgers are good.

This place hands down is my most visited place in WNY. There are great specials throughout the week, especially during trivia/bingo on Wed. Can anyone say 7.50 well drink pitchers? Also the food here is pretty amazing. It’s your typical bar food, but their buffalo chicken wrap is to die for, and dare I say the best chicken wings in Buffalo. Nina, Jen, and Jill are all great bartenders, and help make the place friendly, and what Buffalo is all about.

How does this bar only have 3.5 stars? It’s a classic local bar with darts, pool and megatouch; what more could you want? The owner is frequently there and sets high standards for the food. They offer a vast selection of liquors, including two of my favorite vodkas: Ruby Red and Purple. The bartenders are helpful, fast and nice. Nina is the best! There’s also a smoking patio out back. It’s one of the few cool bars in the ‘burbs. Weekday nights are the best, as weekends can get crowded with drunk college kids. They even have a side room great for private parties.

I came here for the first time in my senior year back in 2007. I think after 3 weeks, I was pretty much a regular. Bartenders were awesome. Each of the 3 owners are great guys and pretty cool. Abbot? Abbin? Whatever his name is, is a really cool guy. I know I’m reviewing this place like 5 years after I’ve graduated by I’ve spent a good deal of time here. The college nights are pretty awesome. Their patty melt is the best I’ve ever had in my life. The bartenders were always on point and fantastic. I remember there was a few nights where my shots were comp’d by owners. Actually, it happened a lot since I used to even do my homework here. Go figure. I had plenty of great nights, bonding time with people and experiences at this bar. 5⁄5 for everything. Nothing average about this place.

Don’t let the well worn floors and walls turn you away. This was perhaps my 8th visit to Average Joe’s which, time and again, has proved to be a damn fun place to hang with my friends. Music, bands, acoustic guitars, tons of space and creative bar food bring me back again and again.

«What the F#*K» Burger”!!! SERIOUSLY! It’s on the menu and we ordered it. I never would have, but when you’re dining with a 15 year old boy(ummmm…man?) you have to be open to such things. And… WOW! It was pretty darn good. Last night my son and I joined two friends at «Average Joe’s». The place was hoppin’, the service was great, and the menu was much larger than I anticipated… lots of salads and wings and sandwiches and wraps and a WHOLEPAGE of burgers. Now I would have ordered something«dainty»(yeah, right) like a chicken salad or a turkey wrap… but once my son spied that«What the F#*K Burger» he HAD to have it. Two quarter pound patties, cole slaw, cheese, chicken fingers(!!), mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and lettuce and tomato(for health, I guess). He asked for no bacon(no pork for us, thanks) and the waitress told us they were out of the macaroni salad that also goes on this creation. Oh well… it was hardly missed(well…maybe a little… I love that stuff). And, it was served with french fries and a pickle. I didn’t order anything for me since I thought that there was NOWAY the kid could eat so much. I figured we’d share. I guess I underestimated the appetite of a fifteen year old guy. Sure I had a teeny-tiny bite of each layer(he carefully attacked it with a knife and fork as not to risk losing a drip or two)… and each layer tasted better than the previous one. And, the pickle(my sole possession) was quite tasty. The kid DEVOURED it… told me it was DELICIOUS… said next time we’re not«sharing»… and proceeded to eat a dozen cookies and a huge glass of milk when we got home(for dessert)!

The selling point, for me, about Average Joe’s is that it’s really good at living up to its name. This place is extremely average. If there was an option for 2.5 stars, I’d give it that just to emphasize its average status. Typical townie bar with a college crowd fused with locals. If you like average bars and you’re looking for average night out in Amherst, this is your place.

TRIVIANIGHT here on Wednesdays are very fun and gets crowded(hosted by DJ Trivia — the same guy that hosts Thirsty Buffalo trivia on Tuesdays?). The game has an advertised 7 pm start but the fun doesn’t really start till 715 or so but either way you will want to go early and secure a table. The drink specials are $ 7 well mixed drinks(pitcher) or $ 7 Blue or Light Blue pitchers during Trivia Night. There is a mixed crowd here otherwise. UB students and locals. The place gets packed during game nights.

Can’t believe I’m the first person to review this place out of all the people who have spent their entire college years at Average Joe’s. If you live off campus, this will be your typical hangout place. It could be walking distance to campus if you’re determined enough, about 45 min. Average Joe’s is your typical townie bar with great prices, great location, great memories, and great patio outside. Too bad they rarely use it in buffalo. They have karaōke night, billiards table, and tv’s. If you go to UB, chances are you will come here, no way around it. You can be an absolute hermit and still find yourself here, sorry, but it’s gonna happen
