UMass Practice Rink

It’s a clean, well-​maintained rink with good facilities. Not too cold and has skate rental. The public ice times are posted on a UMass calendar webpage. Most of the public skate times are on weekends with a few times on Wednesdays. Most public skates are swarming with kids, so don’t plan on getting much room to work on skating technique. Despite being called a «community rink», it doesn’t actually have that much ice time for the community. There used to be puck times for working on individual skills (maybe twice a month), but that hardly happens anymore. During this holiday season, there were a lot of puck times for kids only. There is almost never any pickup hockey time (I’ve seen perhaps one pickup time every three months.) There is also an adult in-​house league that plays here, but it is very poorly advertised. This is an okay rink for fun recreational skating and figure skaters (they have their own club here), but hockey players should look elsewhere.
