This was my first time ordering from this place. I got the«Big Bird» on a Poppy bagel, and it exceeded my expectations. The potato salad that I chose as a side was also delicious. Overall a nice little place that isn’t too expensive. I’ll definitely be coming back in the future.

When its Sunday morning, you don’t feel like exploring breakfast places for testing purposes. You want a place that has reliable food that is solidly delicious every time. I went to Better Bagel for this experience, however they are to my dismay closed(temporarily?) I needed backup. Fast. My stomach was growling, the eyes were wandering, the road seemed so long. I took out this large electronic device in my pocket, typed in «bagel» into Google Maps… and what comes up? This place. Keep in mind, I am no bagel snob. I like a simple life with a few things… but those things have to be few. One of those things is a bagel. I entered the establishment, and was quickly greeted. OK, good sign. Ordered my bagel. Received it. Opened it. I ordered it with butter… this was a mistake. There was more butter in the bag and on the wax paper. I don’t mean 50⁄50. I mean 10⁄90. I don’t know how they achieved this, perhaps I should have called Guinness World Records. The bagel was ordered toasted. Fine. What I received was akin to a brick. Way too crunchy, I couldn’t properly enjoy it. 3 stars for service and attentiveness. Can’t recommend for the actual food though with a clean conscience.

Living close by makes this place convenient for me. The bagels are always fresh tasting and seem to have a quick turnover which is assuring that they have a quality product that is constantly moving. I have had several of their breakfast sandwiches, including a BEC on an everything bagel and also The Hungry Man on a roll. The Hungry Man sandwich is a home run. It’s stacked with eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, and cheese on either a bagel or a roll. Definitely the one to try if you’re looking for an awesome breakfast. Now, my only suggestion is that I would LOVE if they would put seeds on both the top and bottom of the everything bagels. When only the top has seeds, if you slice that bagel in half to toast it or put cream cheese on it, you end up with a half with seeds and a half without. That is really the only thing I would change here, and honestly it’s the only thing keeping me from giving that 5th star. Because as far as bagel places go, they are on the upper end of my breakfast radar. Other things that I like are that they offer a selection of Boars Head cold cuts for both purchase and for their deli-type sandwiches. They offer several types of salads and fruit cups, as well as an assortment of breakfast baked goods such as crumb cake and muffins. The coffee is decent, as is their selection of cold beverages from the fridge. They offer a nice selection of flavored cream cheeses. Prices are on par for area bagel places. There is seating for about 10 – 12 people at bistro style tables, and everything always looks clean and well kept. There is a TV with the news usually on. The staff is very friendly and efficient. They seem happy in their work which creates a nice, calm atmosphere to enjoy your breakfast. I also appreciate that Jacqueline follows the shop’s Unilocal page and cares about customer’s reviews. She is truly an asset to the business. :-) Lastly… They have a great sense of community which I commend. The morning after Hurricane Sandy swept through, despite a huge chunk of tree blocking their doorway, they were open. While the power was out on most of L.I., the few blocks closest to town hall seemed to be on a separate grid which had power throughout all of it. They did their best to provide breakfast, beverages, and power outlets which several customers were charging up their cell phones. They really came through during that time. Also… The bathroom has been impressively clean every time I’ve used it.

«Ay Papi» Driving around town during Hurricane Sandy just to charge our phones landed us upon this cute hole in the wall. Yearning for HOT coffee in an area with no electric sent us on a mission. Later we soon arrived upon Poppys. Seeing patrons stroll down the street with hot coffees in their hands was the guarantee. Upon entering they were still making egg sandwiches and such. Talk about having the power. Some staff appear a bit ornery but don’t let it sway you from patronizing this joint. They take credit cards to boot!

Amytiville is filled with awesome people and tons of great places to visit and spend money on. PoppyS Bagel is one of the places in Amityville that definitely gives the town a smile on a cloudy day, especially for the great service and quality of food. A pick up order from this place takes less than 3 minutes. One thing I would recommend is the Steve Special, a hot and melty Roast Beef Sandwich that instantly makes you forget about work and gives you an urge to climb mountains after eating. I would love to come back here for every lunch. Here’s to good people, a great town and awesome RBS(roast beef sandwiches)
