Tasty’s Chicken & Bread

The panadaria in this place is excellent. Also, the roasted chicken and yucca are great. Don’t go if you think Taco Bell is Mexican food.

I’m not even going to address the random name… guess they were trying to get Americans to pop in randomly? I dunno. The food here is not good at all, but for some reason, there are always a good amount of filled tables in this small restaurant. It’s a clean, small restaurant in a strip mall that serves up Guatemalan food. Maybe I don’t like it because I don’t like Guate food… I dont know, but I doubt it. The tamales are horrid. The fried yucca is really good, though, and I love the green hot sauce it comes with. That is about as close to ordering actual food as I will ever get here.
BUT i’m giving four stars because Im rating the bakery only. The bakery here is on POINT! They have some really great conchas, gusanos, besitos, etc. I LOVE this place for those. Conchas are Mexican sweet bread. They’re round and somewhat flat and have a light sweetness and a rich, almost coconut-​like background flavor to them. They also have a yummy thin, sugar-​cookie-​like crust on top. Very good! I recommend them, but be sure to eat them fresh or they’re not very good. The cakes aren’t my style, but the pastries are good. Man, what a reward to catch the conchas right when they’re coming out of the oven!
