News! The Olympic Diner is no more. The new diner, in the same spot, is AMSTERDAMDINER. Went there for dinner. Filet of sole was fine but portion was quite small. Companion had soup and corned beef sandwich. Believe me, Gershon’s has nothing to worry about. Encyclopedic menu, can’t expect to have every dish be four-star. Why do diners do this? We felt the food was so meh and the menu so overpriced that we were amazed to see a full parking lot on a recent drive by. What did we miss?

Can’t explain the other bad reviews of this place — our breakfast here was pretty decent. Service was maybe a little slow, but the coffee was hot and didn’t taste burnt like at most diners. Portions were huge, and all the food was tasty. I got the chicken and waffles special — chicken seemed to be breaded & fried to order and the waffle was perfectly golden. Minus a few points for not serving real maple syrup, but hey — it’s a diner. If I had had any room left in my belly, the dessert case looked tempting; alas, that will have to wait until next year’s visit.

Pretty crappy experience, tried this place like 5 years ago as well and that experience was not good, decided to try again… bad idea. I ordered french toast and some regular white toast on the side. My partner ordered a wrap and asked for no veggies. He asked that his fries be made extra crispy as well. Food comes out, waitress says«Left the fries in as long as we could». Yeah, ok… those were some potato slices left under a light bulb for two minutes. The wrap had tomato in it. He picked it out an decided not to make a huge fuss, but he couldn’t even eat the chicken and the wrap because it just had no flavor and was cold. Waitress comes back at some point, asks if he wants a box and he says no thanks, she asks«Didn’t you like it?». He told her he just thought it had no veggies and it didn’t so he wasn’t interested. She turned to ME and said«He didn’t ask for no veggies did he? I didn’t hear that.» Uhhh…how about just apologize and take it off the bill, or apologize and do nothing… I really don’t care. But don’t bring me into it. I know she may not have meant it that way, but by saying that, you are implying you do not believe one of the customers. She did take it off the bill which was nice of her but she just clearly lacked the understanding of providing good customer service. If she had checked in after bringing the food, she would have known the problem, could have been remedied earlier on which would have made for a better experience. Overall poor experience. Atmosphere in this place isn’t anything phenomenal or even mediocre. Prices are very average. Just really nothing special about this place.

I’ve been here twice with my husband, he enjoyed his food very much both times, I was only really impressed the first time. First time we were there the wait staff was great, the second time our waitress was pretty icey. They offer a wide variety of food which is great for picky eaters or someone dieting. Warning: the bathroom could use a little work.

Food is OK. Seasoned for all to enjoy, kinda bland for my buds.

Went in for lunch once and had a good chicken gyro. Fresh and tasy. The diner is large, bright and clean. I appreciated the spacious booths and lots of daylight pouring in. So I went back for dinner with a friend and we ordered burgers. They were really bad, poor quality, frozen, patty style burgers. The kind that u bite into and just massive amounts of grease squirt out. No flavor. The bun wasn’t fresh and the coleslaw was soggy, ex-bf limp.

I actually would have given this one star, but the waitress/service was decent. The food that I got last night, however, was not. It was only and omelet with home fries, but the omelet was rubbery, overcooked and both were completely tasteless. A little disappointed because I was looking forward to having that omelet… lol…I will try it again, however, because not only am I local, but I don’t base my final opinion on one lousy meal.

The only time I ever sent food back and didn’t order anything to replace it, I left hungry the food was so disgusting. Never again, and overpriced.

Oh my goodness! I wouldn’t care if I was starving and it was the only place to get food, I would NEVER go here again. Absolutely FILTHY. My feet were sticking to the floor. The ladies room was disgusting. I ordered an omelette and it was overcooked and rubbery. I asked for my home fries to be crispy and they were far from it. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant and I couldn’t even get a cup of coffee when I first sat down. Getting the check at the end of my meal was difficult. Every step of my experience here was not good. It was my first time here and I am sure, my last.

Pretty good. Portion sizes are great been here a few times and once they brought out food that was kinda cold. But that was only one time I had the hungry man combo and for 10 bucks it was worth it. Not bad imo.

Well, for once, my experience isn’t worse than everyone else. Had lunch here recently and it was middle of the road edible food. Couldn’t find any other place that wasn’t fast food in Amsterdam, so picked the diner. Had swordfish special with carrots, spinach and too much liquid. It was good, but no better. My friend had corned beef and it was dry, but tasty. We both had soup; one bisque which was all filler, no taste and chicken and rice which was tasty, good, but too much rice. Completely average meal for $ 20⁄2

I have eaten here about 3 times. The first 2 times were nice. I believe I got breakfast type food the first time and then a soup and sandwich the second time. My husband mos likely got Chicken Parm both times. These 2 visits were fine. Nothing great, nothing bad. The 3rd time was not good at all. I went with a group of 6 people. Everyone was unhappy with their meal for one reason or another. I ordered a grilled chicken salad. It was a very simple salad(lettuce, dressing, chicken, and that is it). They messed that up, had to take it back, and it took 10 minutes to get back to me. My group was winding down eating when my food finally got to me. The worst part of the meal was my husbands dish. He ordered a chicken and pasta dish. About half way done he really cut into his chicken and it was still pink in the middle. We flagged our waitress down and my husband told her that it was raw and that he didn’t want it. She would not listen and made him take it home. He left it on the table so it obviously didn’t go with us. Everyone’s meals were either cold, not very tasty, or had small portions. The waitress was no great either. Within the first 2 minutes of her waiting on us she told us that she was hung over and tired. As the meal went on she got short with us and a little snotty. I will not be eating there again.

This isn’t the Windmill any longer. The Windmill was consistently good. The Olympic is consistently not good. Salads(basic side salads as well as $ 9.00 entrée salads) are apparently made ahead of time in the bowl which creates some sort of weather system that causes water to pool in the bottom of the bowl. It’s nasty, so the time I had the chef salad, at least they made me a new one. But on Saturday night, the side salad came back with water still in it. There were some annoying flies bothering us in the dining room, and the waitress pulled the old drop and dash, leaving us to fend for ourselves for extra napkins and silverware. When our entrees were brought out, our salad plates and soup bowls weren’t cleared, so we had to create a leaning tower of dirty dishes to make room for our entrees. One of us ordered a pasta dish which was on the menu as being served with marinara, but when it came out it was covered in vodka sauce. The prices are just as high as ever, but the food quality is as poor as it’s ever been. I mean really, how can you screw up a hamburger? By turning it into a hockey puck. This was my last visit to the Olympic.
