Dumbo the Flying Elephant

Love this ride I do remember going on this as a kid and would always be the only one flying the lowest cause i’m afraid of heights lol. Even though all this ride does is go around in a circle it always brings back memories of my childhood.

Part I (last year)
Took our little guy on this ride, and he was fearless, when we went even higher using the lever. He wanted to control the lever! Little man is a trip (I know, I keep saying that, but just amazed, is all).
Part II (this year)
The wait was not long for this ride. Always need to use the lever to control going higher and lower, but that’s what makes this ride a little bit more fun.
Both times hubby filmed us on this ride. Everyone agrees that this is a classic ride. It’s a trip going on it when you’re a kid and then when you have one, you’re sharing the experience; really talking about everything at Disneyland (the ones he can go on, anyway).

A perennial favorite for the little ones and the nostalgic set, it’s a tired old ride that needs some long overdue maintenance. It’s a pity because it’s their 60^th anniversary celebration and they have a ride where some of the parts (pinwheels) don’t work and the joystick controller is worn. They’ve done away with the campy old black wooden feathers and replaced them with paper. Tsk, tsk, tsk. How cheap for such an iconic ride…
To really enjoy this type of ride, along with the rockets, the rider should alternate between high and low rather than leave it in one position. The alternating heights make the ride so much exciting, if you can call a flying elephant ride exciting…

The flying elephant brings out the kid in me and I am instantly happy when I get on this ride with my kids. It is so simple, yet classic and fun! Not sure how you can’t have a good time on Dumbo!
Line is typically one of the longer ones in Fantasyland (only Peter Pan is consistently longer) but worth a 20 minute wait. Come in the late afternoon or evenings (during the parade!) and you’ll probably have a 10-​minute or less wait!

This ride is a classic and is definitely one of the ones you must ride at least once.
The line is usually about 30 minutes long and it’s not one of those that continuously moves or feels like you’re not really waiting that long. It definitely feels like you’re waiting for 30 minutes.
They only let a group of people in at a time and when you walk in to pick and elephant just take your time and get into the first available one unless your preference is clearly open. There are plenty of obnoxious parents and children that shove their way through and race to get to the one that they want. I really don’t thinks it’s that critical, but then there are people who do.
The ride itself is pretty cut and dry: up, down, around and around again. Nothing special but still a lot of fun for the kids. It’s great because the kids can control Dumbo’s «flight pattern» by lifting the lever up and down, which they really get a kick out of.
You can’t really see the entire park from the top, but it’s still a pretty good view.

This is a classic! Perfect fun for the little ones. My niece doesn’t have a clue who Dumbo is, but she had a freakin’ blast! Come on, he’s a flying elephant that goes up and down… She loved it! This was her very first Disneyland ride.

«Dumbo the Flying Elephant» is definitely a fun ride for the kiddos and it’s one of the most iconic rides in Fantasyland, if not in all of Disneyland. I remember going on this ride when I was younger – with my younger brother and cousin – and, as kids, we had a blast.
«Dumbo» basically works by moving a joint stick so that the elephant «flies» up and down. You can control it so that it goes as high (or not as high, if your little ones are scared) as you want.
I remember eagerly waiting in line as a kid to pick my Dumbo of choice (the elephants have different colored seats and caps, from what I remember). This is also a good ride for youngsters who are afraid to go on most of the Park rides because it’s pretty mellow (and you can ride with a parent).
The only piece of advice I have for «Dumbo» is to go early because there is NO Fast Pass option for this ride … and the line can get pretty long, as this ride’s super popular among kids. If you’re going to the Park on a crowded day, it would be best to hit up Fantasyland rides like these first (especially if you have young kids). However, if you don’t visit the Park on a crowded day, you can wait for some time before going on this ride because the wait shouldn’t be too bad. I would say anything less than 20 minutes for «Dumbo» is pretty good, but I’ve seen lines that can be up to an hour for this flying elephant!

The line for this ride was semi-​short (about 20 minutes). You get to control going up and down, but it doesn’t move very fast. We went up and down twice and then the ride was over. It seemed shorter than I felt it should have been. A couple more spins around would have been ideal, but I love Dumbo and elephants and am happy to have waited in line for this one.

One of the best rides in the park. I came early here with my best friend and we splurged on a VIP purchase pass so that we didn’t have to wait in the long line-​up.
As adults we felt a little silly in the rides, but it made for good pictures in the scrap book.

I love this ride! I don’t love the line, though. If it’s ten minutes or less, you can bet I’ll be riding this, with or without kids. Much more than that, though, and I skip it, still with or without kids.

One of our little girls favorite rides at Disneyland. It’s one of the few that aren’t dark and scary and you can see it while anywhere near it. Anytime we pass by she says, «elephant!» It’s a quick ride that just goes around like a carousel would, but it has a lever you can pull up or down to make your elephant move up and down. The moment the ride moves our girl always says, «up, up, up!!!»

This is another one of my daughters favorite rides at Disneyland. She’s almost 2 and is learning the magical ropes very fast. We had to hit this ride during Mickey’s Sensational parade because the wait was only 15 minutes. This is definitely a Disney classic, but is almost my least favorite movie, not because I don’t like elephants (in fact, I love Dumbo, I just hate the movie), but because Disney made a super sad movie about a family oriented animal being taken away from its family (I know, I’m 30 and feel this way, ridic). But I do realize that Dumbo was created several decades ago before we really knew how bad the circus was. In any case (this is really about the ride and not how I feel about the movie), this is seriously one of the oldest and best rides located in Fantasyland. A must go on for your little ones. I like to dub this ride the grandparent ride. My Grammie and Oma would take me on this every time we would go to Disneyland when I was little, now my daughter goes on this with her Nana every time we ride this.
Things to consider:
A great time to go on this is during a parade when the lines are not as long. Due to the small capacity, the line goes very slow, thus the wait time is super long.
If you’re coming at opening, make a mad dash for this ride. Actually, I think it’s best that you go on Peter Pan and then this ride. Get it out of the way so you can enjoy the rest of your day at the Magic Kingdom.
Stroller parking is everywhere. When I was younger, it was considered stroller hell. Now that I have my own little one, I respect us stroller users. We seriously hate it more than you people that don’t need strollers, so have a little compassion if we aren’t walking as fast as you’d like us to. In any case, stroller parking is ample next to the Dumbo ride, along Peter Pan, and around King Arthur’s Carousel. Feel free to park it and enjoy whatever you need to enjoy in Fantasyland.

Dumbo is my favorite Disney Character, so I always want to ride on this one! Who wouldn’t? Look at his adorable face! For those who are scared of heights, you have the option to control how low he flies. You can also go crazy and move it up and down and up and down while he’s going around and around. Just don’t throw up. It’s a really short ride, but a very relaxing one. After hours of walking, I hop into Dumbo, position him as high as I can, and I sit back and enjoy the breeze as he flies me in circles!

I’m a massive fan of Disneyland, not one of the pin-​toting embroidered sweatshirt clan, but still a total devotee of the happiest place on Earth.
Normally, it’s a well-​oiled machine that moves things quickly. But this ride is a little squeaky, figuratively speaking. It moves kinda slowly, and because of the small capacity, you’ll wait.
But the kids? They love it. So get in line. Make Dumbo rise and fall with that little joystick thing. And let your little ones fly on his back across the sky, way up high and way down low.

This is a simple yet cute ride. My son is scared of indoor rides right now, so Dumbo became even more of a must-​do ride. It goes in circles and you or your kid can make Dumbo go up and down. It makes me dizzy, so make the adult that is less-​likely to get dizzy go with a young child.
Unfortunately this is a popular ride and it is a ride with a slow-​moving line. But we always find ourselves in line for it with each visit to Disneyland.

Located in the Disneyland park in Fantasyland is the aerial carousel-​style ride, Dumbo the Flying Elephant. Guests climb aboard a «Dumbo» vehicle that is connected to a rotating hub with Timothy the Mouse up top in center. The guests are able to maneuver their «Dumbos» up or down with a joystick while rotating counterclockwise.
No matter how slow (or busy) the park seems to be, there is always a line building up for this ride. People young and old have always seem to love this iconic character from their famous 1941 American animated feature, «Dumbo». I personally can do without getting aboard whenever visiting the park, but this is one of my daughter’s favorite rides in Fantasyland along with Peter Pan’s Flight even though she’s still too small to reach the maneuvering joystick. She instead joyfully instructs me in which way to control Dumbo. Thankfully this ride doesn’t make me feel light on my feet or dizzy during and after like some of their other rotational rides.

This was my faaaaavorite ride as a kid; it’s a little less exciting now, but I still find it charming. The wait’s never too bad, and the cast members figure out how many people they can let in by handing out wooden black feathers, like Dumbo’s lucky charm (I refuse to touch the feathers; ours had gnaw marks on it from some teething child). Don’t stand in my way of getting a purple elephant when you go in the gate.
Every elephant has a different colored costume, the ride itself is multicolored and gilt in gold, and at night — when I usually like to ride — the water is all lit up. Push your elephant’s switch up to go higher, and get a pretty view of the carousel. Push it down if you’re afraid of heights and stay low. Find a happy midpoint to make everyone happy. I still think it’s magical when I look around and all the elephants are at their highest flying point. So pretty. So worth it.

I hadn’t been on this in years, but my gf wanted to ride it so, yep, there you go.
I’d forgotten how sketchy this ride can be. When we were operating the raise/​lower switch, I kept waiting for the arm connecting our flying elephant to the moving base to snap off, sending us flying out into the dense crowd. There may have been a time when this thing moved smooth as butter, but those days are long gone. Honestly, if you weigh north of 250 lbs. I’d be leery of riding. Actually, if you weigh that much you probably won’t even be able to fit into the car.
I’d like to see some minor improvements made, but overall this is still one of those simple, fun rides that elicits memories of childhood in the park. Isn’t that what coming here is all about?

I’m sure everyone has watched Dumbo before and when you are in Disneyland you can actually ride the flying elephant. The line looks long but actually goes pretty quickly and the ride is not that long but really fun!
I love how you can control each Dumbo by moving this nob up or down. I like to be on the high side so we stayed up the whole time. The wind blowing your hair and just flying around and around is just plain fun.
I would defiantly suggest riding this ride if you come to Disneyland. One of my favorites and I would say that many people do enjoy it! :) Just wish it was a little bit longer but besides that this Dumbo is a clean and very safe ride.
