Hilgenfeld Mortuary

We used Hilgenfeld for both my parents. My father in 1996 and my mother in 2002. Everything was handled professionly for both my parents.
My son past away last October. I should have used Hilgenfeld again but unfortunately used Fairhaven.
Do not use Fairhaven mortuary.
Will defiantly use Hilgenfeld in the future for family.

Our family moved to Anaheim in 1963. I remember as a child passing this place many times, always thinking I hope I never have to go there for any reason. Well, 52 years have passed and I have been to many beautiful services there for friends and family. My mom and dad were both taken care of by the Hilgenfeld family. A couple of days ago my 90 year old Aunt passed away and her service will soon be held here. I can’t say enough about how these people run there business. They treat everyone like family. Keep up the good work!

I lost my mom shortly after the New Year. In best case scenarios you’ll need to deal these things someday. Been through it a few times; I know what to expect and what’s involved. Many decisions to make, some fairly quickly — at a time when you’re already under stress. Luckily we had some arrangements made — but not all.
Like many Unilocalers, I place a premium on service and value (combination of quality and price). Had a couple of places I wanted to consider — most people won’t look at reviews, or shop around under these circumstances — I think this industry counts on it to some extent. Not me though! After visiting 3 other Mortuaries I told my brother I really wanted to check out Hilgenfeld.
We were both very glad we did! Other places wanted to sell us a package — laced with items we didn’t want or need — it seemed these «counsellors» (salesmen) weren’t really listening to us, instead going off a script with 3 package options.
Enter Becky Field-​Areias, owner of Hilgenfeld, she’s the type of owner Unilocalers rave about. Family owned and operated for four generations — Becky’s daughter is learning the business and may be the 5^th generation of the family to take over someday!
We felt welcome and comfortable with Becky right away. As the owner, she wasn’t concerned about making a commission, or selling a package — she understood we were shopping — and appreciated our business — by listening to what we wanted and giving us exactly what we needed — also, she worked with us to get the right price!
They have packages available if you want one — may be right for some — but they also have an itemized, Ala Carte price list with each service described clearly. You know exactly what you’re getting and the cost. This was a no brainer decision — we hate getting the «sales pitch» this was a completely different feeling — my brother and I took 2 seconds to look at each other and say this is the place!
We didn’t use the chapel or reception facilities — their garden chapel is a nice option, with plenty of parking — and Anaheim Brewery next door could be a plus!
The services we used went perfect — casket was as ordered and perfect in every way. Transportation was on time and the attendants did an outstanding job. Professional and willing to do whatever was needed to make things go smoothly — I felt they were truly there to help.
Communication and paperwork are always issues — everything went great. My wife and I met with Becky regarding a question we had — she called the cemetery and spoke to several people to get us the answers — in fact, there was a problem at the cemetery (somewhat my fault). Becky went out of her way to take care of the problem and make everything work just right. She would have been completely justified to charge us for the extra day of services and extra trips they needed to make — but no charge, no problem at all. Helping us with the problem was her motivation!
Not surprising when you see the accolades on the wall about how Becky and her business has given back to the local community. Our whole family holds Becky and Hilgenfeld in high regard, we consider ourselves lucky to have found her at time when we really needed her. I give them my highest recommendation and my thanks.

Family owed for over 85 years and counting! We take pride in taking care of our families That have lost loved ones. We have a beautiful facility and a wonderful staff that is so caring, friendly, and professional.:)

I never thought I would be writing a review for a mortuary but yet here I am. They took care of everything from A to Z regarding the cremation and memorial service of my father. I cant explain how much it meant to have someone assist me and my family during this difficult time the way they did. The staff was professional, caring and respectful of all of our needs and wishes. From the services they offered to the presentation of the chapel, they were spot on. Couldn’t be more pleased to have used them
