Mark Twain Riverboat

The Riverboat is not currently in motion… but it was still cool to check it out and walk around. There are some tables on the bottom level to sit and relax, or eat a snack you pick up along the way.
We checked out the boat, got pictures with Louis, then ended up getting a tour of the boat. Our tour guide I think was a little nervous but she did a great job.
We got to go into the locked Captains Quarters and check that out, and then go up the ladder stairs to ring the bell and whistle and sign a cool guestbook. That was awesome! Its about a half hour tour that in my opinion really needed to be only about 15 minutes, but it was some neat information. There are some little tidbits you would never know without the tour. Plus, ringing the bell and whistle is just pure awesome!

Although it’s not working during the renovations it’s still beautiful to look at.
Definitely worth taking a cruise around Tom Sawyers island.

This is my favorite ride of all time!!! I love this ride. Why? Because its so peaceful and relaxing. Everytime I’m at Disney I make it a point to go on this ride at least 3 times. I just come through sit and watch the scenery as the boat takes me on a little trip. Plus it gives me a great breather from all the other rides and walking (all that walking).
They have music on the boat too for additional entertainment. The boat has 3 floors for you to check out. I don’t remember though if the top floor is available. I never realized this, because I never gone on a Sunday, but they actually don’t take off on Sundays. They are open for display and all that but no rides so that’s a bummer.
Overall this ride’s peaceful atmosphere just creates a wonderful view of the park and helps me unwind. I think they talk about some unique historic stuff too but I never really pay any attention since the calmness just takes me away. This boat ride is my bliss!

The Riverboat is like the Pirates ride — taking a seat while resting your feet for awhile after being on them for hours on end. Not to mention the scenery is nice on the eyes too.

There’s something so nostalgic about this old riverboat. Besides showcasing Tom Sawyer Island’s rustic beauty, this boat also has a unique history.
Since this ride was originally part of Disneyland’s opening in 1955, it really has it’s own vintage charm. After some problems with the steamboat’s opening, like the boat almost capsizing due to it’s too many passengers, the ride has since had 60 years of successful voyages. With a couple of remodels (1995 and 2004) since it first opened, this ride remains a classic favorite.
Passengers can enjoy a wonderful 12-​minute ride circling the Rivers of America. Although I haven’t been on Tom Sawyer Island since I was a kid, the island and surrounding riverbanks are very scenic. The ride is relaxing and there are some beautiful scenes of an Indian Village, Big Thunder Falls, the Indian Chief, Settler’s cabin, and many other interesting sights.
I hope I can get back to enjoy this beautiful riverboat before it temporarily closes on January 10^th. Although I know it’s time for some serious remodeling, I will miss the ride during the construction!

The Mark Twain Riverboat is a good ride if you want to take a break and rest your feet for a bit, but still feel like you are experiencing an attraction.
Leaves every 15 minutes or so, so you never have to wait too long. It’s fun to walk around the boat and explore.
Not fast or exciting, but it’s fun to take a loop around the Rivers of America and sneak some views of rides and attractions you wouldn’t get other wise.
Wish there was more seating, many times I’ve ended up parking it on the ground.

Probably the most serene boat ride you will get to experience. Mark Twain Riverboat takes you throughout the Rivers of America with a narration of its history along the way.
Located right in the heart of Disneyland, Mark Twain’s Riverboat has that look of the ships that were abundant during the 1800’s. This ship has 3 stories with plenty of room to look at the amazing view. This ride is one of the more slower ones with a nice view of the riverbank. Look at the times for the arrival of the boat, as it does get filled quite often. Along the way, you can see the ducks that frequent the river, as well as the canoe paddlers! Some might find this ride as slow and boring. For myself personally, I found it fun and very educational.
Overall, this ride is one that you should try when in Disneyland. I was even lucky enough to hear a proposal when I was on board! Congrats to them both!

Nice ride. Great way to entertain littles and rest. Fun information. Wish the two men in charge who stood next to me not saying anything for a min and then said (re my 3yo who was standing on a chair) quite curtly“he has to get down”.
Ummm is that the Disney way? How about «ma’am could you please have your son get down, it’s for his safety». Seriously. So easy. By the time they finish answering my questions as to why they want to save time just being polite.

If you’ve never been on this ride, you gotta do it at last once! Line isn’t too long, waited about 15 minutes, and was a nice view from above, they had the small band playing in the front which was nice. Their voices are amazingly awesome, but I’ll save that for a separate review.
Side note, you should be able to spot a couple hidden mickeys here on this ride!

I rode the Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA on 3÷16÷2015. I’ve been on it many times before. It takes you back to the days of Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) life of growing up in Hannibal on the Mississippi River. I was lucky enough to be allowed in the wheelhouse and received a pilot’s certificate. Plus, I took photos.

If you’re ready for a ride with a shorter, faster moving line and for a break from the rest of the park, a ride on the Riverboat is a good option. It is a slower ride, with some things to see, but not a ton. However, remember little ones see things differently. For my husband the ride is boring. For my son, he loved riding on the boat and seeing what was on the river. So give this ride a chance if you think someone in your group needs a break or would love a boat ride.

I love riding on the Mark Twain river boat. I recently found out that you can request to steer the boat. I was so excited at the prospect of steering the boat that as soon as I went through the gate to board the boat I asked the first cast member I found if I could steer the boat. She told me we are not taking requests today. I was completely disappointed especially when I saw another guest enter the wheel house to steer the grand Mark Twain river boat.

A nice relaxing cruise on the Rivers of America. Not too many places to sit, but lots to see.

If you’re a Disney Dork like me you’ll find that this leisurely cruise around the Rivers of America on an old fashioned paddlewheel boat is a great way to see a lot if the Disneyland Park.
Personally I like standing at the back of the boat looking down at the paddlewheel as it goes round and round.
This always reminds me of the Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn books I read as a boy.

In all my many visits to Disneyland, I’ve never been on this boat. Why? Because I get seasick. Why? Because the lines are long? Why? Because I’m a dork.
We decided to give it a try one visit, and boarded with our cups of coffee right before they «took off». The boat is huge, though it gets crowded quickly, and there aren’t a whole lot of places to sit.
The great thing about this attraction is that there’s so much to see. The bad thing about this attraction is that there’s so much to see.
We found a spot along the rail on the top deck, on the starboard side (that’s the left side, for all you landlubbers out there). Once the boat gets moving, a recording comes on over the speakers telling you what to be on the lookout for. It’s kind of like being on the Disneyland Railroad, except you’re on the water, and if you’re not close to a speaker, it can be hard to hear.
That’s really my biggest gripe — that if you’re on the top deck, and anywhere near the «smoke stacks», you’re not going to be able to hear the narrator talking to you. All you’ll hear is the steam escaping the stacks and the people around you talking their heads off.
Anyway, if you position yourself correctly, and if you’re not afraid to move from starboard to port and back, you can hear the story and see the things that are being pointed out to you.
Another good point — they don’t sweep the boat between launches. We were able to find a bench on the port side (right side, yo) before they let the next group in, and it made the next trip around the lagoon that much better.

The boat itself, of course, is impeccable, as is everything at Disney, and it makes me smile just to look around. The details in the railings, the shining axe on the wall above the stairs (I assume there’s some significance), the gleaming floors, and if you look very carefully at what appear to be drains (?) around the railings, some have an iconic D on them. I would like to reiterate my unending love for Imagineers at this point in my review (CALL ME).
The Mark Twain provides a smooth and leisurely ride around the Rivers of America, with audio narration related to the rides you’ll pass, and a bit of riverboating trivia (ex. what mark twain actually means). Some of the narration is a bit weird, and I was particularly uncomfortable when ol’ Uncle Remus started talking about the Brer animals. Really? Leaving Uncle Remus on there? AWK-​WARD.
I’m also a bit weirded out by Disney’s leaving the animatronic Native American folks on the riverbanks; certainly, the audio has been changed, as it’s vaguely educational, but still strange to me, considering I spend the rest of my day at the park looking at animatronic pirates and not-​real-​people and such. Purists will certainly want to start lambasting me here about my desire to change the original ride and perhaps others will start howling about my political correctness, but y’all can write your own damn reviews, this one’s mine. I get why Disney left it in, besides keeping the ride OG, but it still strikes me as strange for a company that’s usually very concerned about not offending people.
Is the Mark Twain exciting? No. It’s a slow and unexciting ride with nice views (several decks available, depending on what view you’d like) and room to walk around. It’s a great choice for those who are easily motion sick, little kids, and those who are wondering what the heck is on the other side of Tom Sawyer’s Island. It’s a big deal on Dapper Day (which is how I ended up on it for the first time in 25 years) and it’s an overall pleasant and relaxing experience. But it’ll probably be another few years (or the next Dapper Day) before I step aboard.

I’ve visited the Disneyland Resort so many times and for some reason, I never really ventured onto the Mark Twain Riverboat. I finally decided to see what this attraction has to offer and now I’m disappointed in myself for not realizing how great this attraction really is.
You will take a 15 to 20 minute journey around the Rivers of America and view so many wonderful things. You’ll see the attractions that are housed within Frontierland and Adventureland! Ducks and ducklings swim past the boat frequently. Further explore the river boat and maybe you’ll discover something that you’ve never seen before! I’m not sure if they let guests «drive» the riverboat anymore but you can always ask to see if it’s a possibility. It runs on a track so everyone within your pathway will be safe!
If you choose to stand at the top of the boat, you may get wet from the misting that is emitted from the rear portion of the boat. I highly recommend exploring this attraction when the park is crowded or if you have become exhausted. Take a break and enjoy the views from the Mark Twain Riverboat!

I never rode the Mark Twain Riverboat before, so on our visit to Disneyland for my lady’s birthday, we checked it out. Pretty leisurely tour around the Rivers of America, where the audio tour points out sights that you can see mainly on the boats — very nice!
Also, the Mark Twain plays a part in the Fantasmic show later in the evening — seeing all the cast members dancing on deck while the riverboat is decked in sparklers is a cool visual!
If you’re looking for something relaxing at Disneyland, the Mark Twain is worth a shot. (Plus, now knowing about parties of 4 or less sitting in the pilothouse, I want to do it!)

What can I say, the Mark Twain Riverboat sits in the heart of Disneyland. But did you know, if you have a group of 4 or less, you can ask to sit in the pilothouse on a trip around Tom Sawyer Island? And when your trip is done and you land lobbers are back on solid ground, you get a certificate saying you piloted the Riverboat? Yep, it’s no secret, but it’s not advertised either.
Give it a try on your next trip to Disney. The kids will LOVE it.

The Mark Twain takes you around the Rivers of America and incorporates some of the rides at Disneyland into the narration for the ride.
There are some chairs available which will allow you to see, but most people will have to stand while on the boat. The riverboat is an actual steamboat you would have seen on the Mississippi River at the turn of last century.
If you are looking for a relaxing break from lines at Disneyland, the Mark Twain is one of the more relaxing rides in the park and the line for the ride usually isn’t too long.
