Straight Out of Philly

I’m very disappointed! How can you say you’re «straight out of philly» and not have CHEEZ WIZ! that’s how they come in Philadelphia. I just moved here from Philly and I was looking for a taste of home. This is BS!!!

Food is great, but the owner is incredibly rude. Obviously doesn’t value her regular customers, which is unwise for a small business owner when there are so many food options in anchorage!

Surprised they have a Veggie Philly. (I live a block away and I was desperate)
The grilled veggies weren’t as greasy as expected; pretty good for the style of cooking. The cheese sticking to the roof of my mouth was an odd experience but it’s cheese so yay! The roll was a nice soft texture, the fries and dinner salad just okay. I’d imagine their meat is probably pretty decent. Prices maybe 20% high. Clean dining area.
But they were the nicest folks I’ve met in a long time. Was greeted with and left with a big smile!

Love this place, only found out about it last week. Yesterday took my girlfriend there after work and got a really good bite with her. During the lunch I went up to grab some napkins and the owner handed me some. Later he brought me some house made ranch and hot sauce he told me to mix together which made a extremely delicious sauce I covered my philly in. On the way out I thanked him and he gave me some more sauce for home. Great spot for sure!

They make good burgers, good fries, decent prices, overall not bad, I’d recommend delivery or pick up though. The place itself is a bit rundown but not representing of the quality of their food. Top 5 burgers in town.

I work right across the street from Straight Out of Philly.
I ordered food for delivery because I was in back to back meetings so I could not go and pick it up.
They delivered after 1 HOUR !!! 1 Hour to deliver food across the street.
Extremely disappointed !!!

Best Philly in Anchorage! Can’t speak to delivery, but the customer service at the restaurant is excellent and the service is pretty quick. Definitely recommend for lunch or a late night bite!

Food is amazing. I love it. Customer service and business tactics however. Completely appalling.
Numerous issues.
–I’ve waited for over three hours at one point. I kept calling and they kept saying «he’s on his way.»
— I’ve been placed on hold for 10 minutes and then hung up on.
–I’ve waited in my front living room with the window open and seen no one. I called two hours after I originally ordered and they said he was there but I didn’t answer so I will have to wait another hour and half. And wouldn’t refund me my money.
–I’ve had a delivery driver comes to my house and tell me that I’m lucky he came here so he should be getting a tip.
–I’ve been told they can’t come on base and won’t even meet me at the front gate when i tried to work with them.
–when I ask for a manager, one is «never» there or I get put on hold until I hang up.
I keep giving them chances due to their great food but I’ve just about had it. DEPLORABLE customer service.

Sub was just «ok» but I expected more with the name being «straight out of philly» but on the bright side the wings were amazing best yet !! I will be back for the wings but I’ll leave the sub there !!

I got delivery from here once very shortly after breaking my leg. The verdict?
Ew. The food here made me feel sick. Didn’t taste very good, either.
Another dud.

I’m from the east coast of the lower 48 and good Phillys aren’t hard to find there. However here, people just don’t seem to know how to make a good one.
This is the only place I’ll go, after trying many, to get one. It’s one if my favorite places to eat.

I meant to take a photo of my food. However, my food did not make it longer than 4 minutes.
I know it was 4 minutes because my coworkers timed me. They timed me because they say I inhale my food. But hey, I enjoyed every second of my four minutes scarfing down my cheesesteak.
I love cheesesteaks of all kinds. This place has 22 different kinds of sandwiches, 17 different kinds of burgers or subs sandwiches, wings with 11 kinds of flavors and sides galore. So many options to choose from!
This location gets four stars only based on their food, delivery and phone services. I have never been to this location, but why when I could get it delivered. I normally do not eat out. However Takeout Thursdays at work get me almost every time.
Every time we’ve ordered large quantities, they’ve always been correct, still warm, always delicious and dropped off well before the time they allotted for delivery. What I am most impressed with is their knowledge of where things are on base. Like by building name, rather than actual address.
So back to them cheesesteaks, today I got the Cheesy Philly. Yes, if you’ve read my reviews, you’ll know I’m pretty simplistic. But they offer two different kinds of breads, white or (for $.50 more) honey wheat bread. These aren’t your typical sandwiches. They’re more like bread boats. Your loaf is cut out in the middle, cradling thin slices of steak with oozy, melty, cheese. Their other options include various veggies to add, glazes, even meats like chicken.
With your cheesesteak you also have the option of fries or potato chips. I’m picky with fries but if you ask them for crispier fries, they will oblige. I decided to do the chips option today, which if you’re thinking homemade potato chips, know they are not — which I couldn’t be mad about. Instead it was a yellow bag of salt, Lay’s Potato Chips, which happen to be one of my favorites.
All in all, this place has not disappointed yet.

We’d hope it would live up to the reviews. The people are friendly.
The food was meeh at best. the way they cut the bread makes it look like they give a good amount of meat. It’s mainly bread. The burger was dry and nothing had seasoning, not even the fries! We also got the wings. The wings are small and barely have any meat on them. The flavors we’re ok. These are NOT Philly cheese steaks they’re Alaskan steak flavored rolls.
AND…Any place that is going to call themselves straight out of Philly should have whiz… ever cheese steak place has to have cheese whiz! Obviously, they don’t!

So I discovered this place thanks to Google, we simply wanted something different for delivery than the regular stuff and we decided to try this place. Since then we have eaten here 4 or 5 times.
The other reviewers are not wrong in saying it is a hole in the wall type of place. Don’t despair though because the food is pretty good.
Any different type of philly I get from here is always on point. Just about everything about it is really tasty. I usually get just regular fries, which this previous time they were just okay. Kind of soft and not really salted, but one of those can be easily fixed. We’ve also gotten some of the special fries and those were alright as well. We have never gotten any appetizers or anything else so I can’t speak on those, but I am sure just about anything you get here is good.
The delivery times vary, and that’s obviously to be expected when they’re busy sometimes it’s over an hour wait (off of muldoon).
As far as the staff I have only interacted with them very little, but they seem nice. Have never had any negative interactions with them.
I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re looking to change up from the same old stuff for delivery, or if you’re closer call in and pick up.

Hole in the wall place. Had the BBQ Cheese Steak, It was quite good. This may turn into a 5-​star review after I try more menu items.
My wife’s opinion of the South Philly was, «good, not great.»

Little hole in the wall in Anchorage that has some dam fine Philly steaks. I can’t give it a 5 star because I did a take out order so not sure how the dine in experience is. I can say that the food is great. I was surprised that the double meat didn’t have MORE meat but it’s all good. Cheese cake was also delightful.

Ordered food for my staff, and it clearly hadn’t been started by the time I came to pick it up — I watched people come in, order, and get food while I waited for the takeout order.
By the time I left I was pissed, so I call the owner and get told there was nothing he could do — «it takes a long time to fry wings». Really dude?

They serve up a pretty damn good Philly here! (And I’ve had lots of cheesesteaks in actual Philadelphia.) It’s a total hole-​in-​the-​wall. There are multiple options for your cheesesteak. I opted for the hot Philly, which came with jalapenos. All cheesesteaks come with chips or fries. And they can fancy up those fries by adding cheese, buffalo sauce, etc. The buffalo fries were quite yummy. The cheesesteaks are of significant size. Great bread and lots of meat, veggies, and cheese. There’s a couple of fridges with a selection of sodas and other beverages. There are some non-​cheesesteak options on the menu. Prices are decent, especially for how much you get. All in all, I will most definitely be back. If you’re craving a Philly cheesesteak, look no further than here.

I had the buffalo chicken sub 2 of 3 times I went there and always hits the spot. I got the philly steak n cheese my last visit and was also money, but will probably stick to the buff chicken for the future.
Staff is friendly and nice, and the only problem with this establishment is space. Not many places to sit if u eat there but I’m not going to drop a star for that. Staff n food were excellent so 5 stars here.

Man! I’ve never had a real Philly cheesesteak, but if I ever recommended a place to lose your P-​card, this would be it!
Amazing taste, great value, nice staff. The wait was a bit long, but the food was totally worth it. Get «The Boss», double meat. Try the hot sauce!
