Surly Mermaid Deli

Stopped in here on a recommendation from a local. This was the best stop of our trip. The owners are awesome. The food is amazing. I had the burrito, lentil chili and bread pudding. Everything is made fresh each day. The place was very clean and uniquely decorated. Definitely a stop to make even if it is a little out of the way. You won’t be disappointed.

One of a kind sandwich shop you got to check out. Super friendly staff who were very helpful explaining the different menu items and very knowledgable of ingredients. Tried the turkey Ruben and it was very good. They let me sample the the chicken salad and that will be what I get the next time I go. I’m sure all is good on the menu and wish I was in town longer to try them all.

What great service and food! The atmosphere is super cozy. When I took leftovers that even packed utensils. A great place for lunch!

A unique but delicious gem in the middle of down-​home country, the Surly Mermaid is a quaint and somewhat eccentric but very enjoyable taste of refined cuisine in downtown Andalusia. The owner is friendly and attentive, the food exhibits a continental flair, and the décor, while unique, makes the whole experience a memorable one.
I ate the Uptown BLT, which comes with a fried egg and a dab of some preserves on top, and while it definitely required a knife and fork to eat, it was very tasty. I also had the soup, a zippy meatball and barley, which was a nice touch.
I heartily recommend that you try the Surly Mermaid. The owner’s wide experience with world cuisine will not disappoint.

While on our way to FL, we checked Unilocal for suggestions for lunch. With hopeful curiosity we chose The Surly Mermaid. From the warm greeting, the fun atmosphere and delicious food we were not disappointed! I had a turkey club with summer salad & my hubby had a Reuben with potato salad. Both dishes were delicious! And the sweet tea was just like mom’s! If you’re looking for a great little place to eat, The Surly Mermaid is definitely one to put on your list!

I will definitely be coming back! The whole atmosphere is so fun and very cute! The food is amazing, and a great variety. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. I will definitely be telling everyone I know to check this place out.

If you are ever driving through Andalusia and hungry SKIP THE FAST FOOD and make your way to the Surly Mermaid.
In a small town like Andalusia, this café is a gem. I was here working from the other side of the country for many weeks and this restaurant was a God send. Jennifer the owner is spunky, kind and welcoming and the chef Steve is always accommodating to any modifications to menu items.
The food is homemade quality good. I highly recommend the chicken salad sandwich– or any sandwich for that matter. Over the course of my stay I tried almost every item on the menu and was never disappointed! The cous cous and orzo and pasta salads are delicious. OH and they always have awesome specials and KILLER desserts :)
Everything is crazy affordable and you will not be disappointed.
