There are some very nice trails and the shelters are great, but I like trails that are more rugged and these were pretty low key. The campground is great, very spacious, and there are nice secluded spots. The river looks like it would be good for canoeing but I’m not sure if they offer it. I would definitely chose other state parks over this one.

This is a very good part in far eastern Indiana. This is probably the best interpreted park in terms of nature, and the intricate mounds right on the property. The nature trails are interesting and not too long. There are also many shops nearby for campers to pick the night’s dinner. There is a Starbucks 2 miles from the park entrance which was closed for renovation while I was there. There are some downsides. Many Indiana State Parks do not have water hookups at their electric cites. With me and my perennial difficulties with water pumps this poses a problem. Like Missouri State Parks, Indiana State Parks tend to compensate by having good shower houses. With this shower house at Mounds, there was only 20 seconds of hot water and then that was it. One item of interest(or not, depending on your preferences) was the small airport directly adjacent to the campground. I like small planes to enjoyed seeing(and hearing) them take off. Others might not like this so much. This was the park with the most helpful rangers/naturalists. One young lady spent 10 minutes helping me find information on the Levi Coffin State Historic Site in Fountain City.

Made a change this year and chose Mounds for the Fall Halloween festival event. They did a great job with an educational night hike where we learned about all the creatures of the night including a new one I had not heard of… The pukwudgies!!! On Saturday they had arts and crafts for the kids followed by trick or treat around the campground. The camping here is nice, sites are in good shape with a reasonable amount of space between each one. The park, campground, and bathroom facilities are in good shape. The campground does but up to the local airport which can be a plus or minus depending on the amount of traffic. Certainly interested in coming back to try out the pool facilities!

The park itself is very nice and well kept but it is not very«interesting». The mounds were pretty small and below expectation. just a tiny little hill. This place is nice though.

How is it I am the first review ? This is a terrific park, obviously close to Indy, that is very underutilized. Excellent facilities… camping, pool, really nice nature trails and nature center. Never a crowd when I have ventured north. Plus… a historically significant Native American preserve, with fascinating mounds and stories. The park also follows the White River with easy trails and lovely views. Rent a canoe nearby for a float on the river.
