Pretty average roast beef joint right by the train tracks on Andover Street. I had never been there before, but was driving by hungry and roast beef sounded like it would hit the spot. It’s a small place with counter service and just a few tables. Plenty of parking. The pricing seems reasonable and the service was acceptable. The roast beef was average not bad not great, would have preferred it a little more rare. I would go back if I were driving by again and hungry, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

for $ 8 bucks, i can get my beloved onion-roll-roast-beef, and all the rad toppings i want. it’s divine! it’s a great deal, even if it wasn’t in fancy-pants andover. They have the classic warm(but not hot) roast beef on a roll thing going on. The roast beef is excellent. They also have the best pretty table outside for sitting and stuffing your fat mouth with beef al fresco. They have amazing BBQ sauce(dunno if they make it or not) and nice spicy horse radish. They go together really well! You should get a sandwich with both of those toppings on it, at a minimum. I haven’t tried anything else, as i feel like at a place that has«roast beef» in the title, probably focuses on the roast beef they make quite a bit. Everyone who works there seems nice, and I always get my sandwich in about a minute or so after paying.

I wanted to strangle this guy Phil. All I wanted was a roast beef with cheese and fries. He asked if I wanted the dinner, I said I dont want or need the additional food, pizza roll, salad, slaw and that I wanted what I wanted. and tells me for only $ 2.00 i get so much more. This resulted in a $ 5.00 price increase for 5 onion rings. I was asked 3 times if I wanted sauce, each time I said no. Then when I was sitting down the womanbehind the counter asked me again if I wanted sauce. My answered was no for the 4th time. When I got my food it had sauce and when I took it back they both told me I said with sauce. This guy was an arrogant jerk. I behaved myself and and left it alone. My girls r. beef also had sauce which she did not order. On top of it all phill kept telling me i didn’t listen. I live In Winthrop and have eaten r.b. sandwiches all over the n. shore And I know how it works and what quality entails. This was not even close. Over cooked beef and way too much roll. What a rip off. I hope Phil feels good about taking advantage of two peoples good manners and polite behavour. This guy would not last a day in the e. boston, revere area. Never again. Also no bathroom. I wonder where he goes the bathroom when he needs to take care of business.

I work around the corner from Phil’s and used to go in every once in a while. Today I ordered a chicken kabob, I called on the phone quick from the road. But then realized when I got there it wasn’t really on the menu. Fine, they had asked what I wanted on it. It was gross. The chicken had some sugary marinade. It was more tendons than actual meat. And they didn’t even put on what I had asked for. Also, it was gross in there. Smells like dirty grease and the floors and counters had a slimey feel to them. I’m disappointed. Used to really like this place for quick take out. Never again. I’ll stick with other more consistent and clean places in Andover.

Great place, right near the railroad tracks. This was my first roast beef sandwich in MA!(you guys like some really good stuff!) Food is prepared fast, roast beef is RARE(as it should be), plenty of condiments. I recommend some sweet potato fries on top!

Working one building away makes this a very convenient place to pick up lunch. Prices are reasonable for Andover. Roast beef is delish! Daily specials change all the time & are a great value. Stop here if you’re in the area and looking for take-out. There are seats to eat there if you’re so inclined.

This is my favorite beef on the planet. They are friendly, the place is clean, and the beef is always the perfect pink. My go to is the large, on the onion roll with extra sauce and mayo. But there is no bad way to eat a beef. If you are ever in the area, this is a destination spot.

Good sandwich choices across a pretty large menu, but as other reviewers say, the roast beef is the best choice. Friendly service, reasonable prices. One negative comment: the french fries are some of the worst I’ve ever had. Yikes. They are the ones that are kind of pre-processed batter-dipped from the start, but then Phi’s seems(I’m guessing now) to cook them in the same old oil they use to cook their fish in. I had take-out the other day(that included fries) and brought it back to my office; and work-mates were complaining about the gross fish smell for hours. Why does no one around here just give us basic hand-cut fries? Just real potatoes with a little salt cooked in clean oil! That’s the way to go.

My son and I eat there once a week and have for almost 2 years. And though we have our favorites, there’s tons of options that you can’t go wrong with. Phil or his son George will know your name by the 3rd visit. Great priced food and you won’t leave hungry… My wife says I smell like Phil’s after I eat there though. ;-)

I’ll give Phils some Unilocal love. Order what you want but its called Phils Roast Beef for a reason. Ask for horseradish sauce on the side.

I drive by this place all the time on the way to Andover Deli. I was craving a roast beef sandwich and didn’t have the time to drive to Harrison’s. Once I got in I was greeted, the guy at the counter was very polite. I got the roast beef special with fries. The sandwich was huge, the ingredients seem fresh. I will agree with Matt and say that the meat was a little bland, however it was perfectly cooked. The special was $ 6.50 and my bottle of soda was $ 1.50, so it was an average priced lunch. Overall I will go back there to try some of their other items.
