Having met Lou(the farmer) a few times at the monthly winter farmer’s market in Morristown, his meat and his service has been excellent and spot on. My husband and I have been looking for a specific type of roast for a traditional Christmas Danish dish for years, and Lou took the time to find out what we were looking for and give us a few options. Not only was he super helpful and super knowledgeable, but the pork roast was some of the best we’ve ever had. This is a prime example of spending a bit more on your meat purchase and getting 10x the quality you could find in stores. No ShopRite butcher could tell you where and how the pigs were raised. Right on, LL Pittenger Farm! You rock.

I have been buying various types of meat and poultry from Pittenger Farm for years. I was really surprised to see two negative reviews. I can’t imagine Lou selling someone sausage from 2008. I checked the labels on what I have in my freezer and did notice the label in dated in a military format, that being YY/MM/DD. For example something packaged on June 08, 2012 would read as 12÷06÷08. So I can see how someone could be confused. We love Pittenger products, in fact I am making meatballs this evening with a mixture of their ground beef and sausage. Their steaks are to die for. My wife has had the opportunity to eat at some of the best steak houses in the world while traveling for business. She likes Pittenger steaks better then any of them. Their chorizo sausage also gets two thumbs up. Lou is great to do business with. He’s knowledgeable of his products and often offers tips on how to prepare them. We have several family member that also buy from him. Along with a cousin from Virginia that fills a cooler full of Pittenger products every time she visits.

If you buy meat from this Farm, make sure to check the packing date. We did not and just realized that the two packages of Italian sweet sausage we bought were packaged in 2008 for one and 2010 for the other. This is July 2012. We bought this from their stand at the Morristown Framers market two weeks ago. We made one package(2008) it was the toughest sausage I ever ate.
