StevenMichael 4-Hair 4-Color

I was nervous about going to Steven Michael after reading the previous reviews, but I know some of his clients and they only say good things about him and look great.
Steven listened intently to what I wanted and delivered, he also explained each step of the way and helped me make decisions to make my hair look it’s best. His advice is good and backed up by a lot of education, I appreciate when a stylist continues to go to school to learn the latest techniques!
All in all I had a very satisfying experience at Steven Michael, he gave me a great cut, great color and a lot of really good tips on how to maintain my type of hair and style.
Update: Steven Michael just helped transform me from a blonde to a redhead. He did an incredible job and really eased my mind during a nervous transition. Steven really listened to what I wanted to helped me achieve a look I could feel great wearing. Steven Michael really cares about making you look good and making you happy. His genuine nature, along with his skill and experience, make him the best stylist I have seen.

Steven is absolutely a delight! I have asian hair and this type of hair is not easy to cut! I’ve met plenty of stylists from many price ranges thinking they know how to handle my hair, but often I leave disappointed. Steven uses so many different types of techniques (along with sharing his interesting stories as to how he learned the techniques!) on my hair and proved to me that he can truly cut my hair the right way! I’m so happy to have met him you will be too!

Steven Michael is a genius, plain & simple. I had my hair straightened and they botched it — completely ruined my hair.
Steven has been working with my hair for the past few months and it is almost back to where it should be, and I am 100% happy with the results.
His color is much more natural than my former stylist, and he is a genius at cutting hair.
He truly cares about you, and how you look — I can’t imagine anyone having a bad experience there!

I’ve been on the fence about writing this review for a while. I don’t mind traveling a bit to get my hair done if it is worth it, I currently drive about an hour away for my hair. I read the good reviews for Stephen, and since Andover is much closer than my current salon, I figured I would give him a try. After a warm greeting, I sat in his chair and said that I do NOT want my wavy hair thinned or razored. Any one with wavy or curly hair will tell you this is a recipe for disaster. Thinning/​razoring this hair type causes frizz, stringy ends, and split ends, especially if the razor is not sharp enough. He spun the chair around and said ‘you cant tell me about texture… *I’m* the expert and I know whats best”. Astounded at the reply I just sat there, while my poor hair got thinned and razored. I’m still kicking myself, months later, for not getting up and walking out of that salon right then and there. Before paying, I questioned the posted student discount advertized on his website, he responded that that was only for those ’21 and under’. That restriction is not posted, and is not fair to make it up on the spot. I also had hair dye all over my face and the back of my sweater… and he let me leave the salon that way — I didn’t notice til I got home and looked at myself in the mirror.
Never again.

Not sure how to begin to write about my experience with Steven Michael, but I’m giving it a shot.
Just to give a little back story: all my life people complimented my hair _​daily_​and I loved every minute of it. I LOVED my hair and I knew I was blessed to have those locks. I’ve spent top dollar on products and services for it throughout the years (from California [where I grew up] to New England, where I’ve lived the last 10+ years). I would only have the best.
However, around 6 years ago, it began to change… a LOT. The loss of volume became so severe (and the texture so strange) that it sent me into a depression. I went to a dozen different doctors, got heaps of different blood tests – everything imaginable to find out WHY this was happening yet no medical professional could give me an answer. What was once beautiful was now gone. I was never so pro-​active over anything in my life as I was in trying to find out what was going on with the structure of my hair. But I was unsuccessful in finding out anything and reached a point where I began researching wigs and/​or shaving it off.
Then, by chance, I made an appointment with Steven Michael right before Christmas from an online coupon and my world finally saw Heaven shine again. I got the Brazilian Blowout from him and with it a wealth of information about hair essentials and care (which not even one doctor helped me with). This man is not only a stellar stylist, colorist AND artist — he’s also a scientific/​hair engineer who shares everything he knows so that you’re well-​informed and educated on the importance of hair tools, products, etc. You walk in, get the best cut and style of your life, then walk out invigorated and knowledgable with how to keep your hair gorgeous (without going bankrupt by the mega major manufacturers that are always selling you a bunch of hocus-​pocus). He’s a God-​send as far as I’m concerned! It felt wonderful not to hate my hair anymore and I’m grateful to him for that.
I live in the city and it’s less than 25 minutes to his salon… well worth it over any down-​the-​block-​Newbury Street experience because he REALLY CARES ABOUT YOU!
I’ve had another Brazilian Blowout from an online coupon since that time, but not from Steven Michael — and it wasn’t the same AT ALL. I wish I could afford full price for this treatment because I would ONLY go to Steven Michael. I have no idea how he does it, but his technique is, simply, magical.

it’s tough to describe a stylist who is part hair designer, part artist, and part color guru. I’ve known and been a client of Steven’s for over seven years. After going to him in a panic the first time, I started getting compliments on my hair. Specifically my haircut, my hairstyle. What started of as a «can you fix this?» soon grew into a great friendship and the pleasure of having people ask me «Where do you get your hair cut?».
As an artist Steven works with your profile and the shape of your face. As a colorist he can help you achieve a look that is sexy, sophisticated, flirty, whatever you are looking for. As a guru Steven will explain what he is doing and why. I’ve seen him train many aspiring hairstylists in a way that both instructed and inspired. Getting your hair done by Steven is a experience you will come to look forward to.
