We stopped at this winery as part of a Trek Travel bike tour. Yep, rode a bike up that God forsaken mountain. It was more than worth it. The wine is outstanding but even better than that, the family that runs the winery are just the best people you’ll ever run into. Super location and not even a hint of corporate big business about it. The dogs are around to pay with and the view is breathtaking. Most people will never even know this place exist let alone has great wine. We enjoy both the Port and the Rose. I almost didn’t want to rate this winery because they produce in small lots and we’ll be ordering a few cases every year so I don’t want them to sell out of our favorites.

Great wine & an even better family. This is a family business. No corporate sell outs. Hard working people that bust their @$$ everyday. There is a tasting fee but it’s worth it

One of the two hidden gems on Howell Mountain. A trip to Summit Lake is a trip to a real family winery. On the top of the mountain, the setting is peaceful and scenic. Your tasting experience will be very pleasant. The wines are terrific. All of the fruit is from the family owned vineyards. Our favorite is the Zinfandel. Be sure to make an appointment ahead of time. Oh yes, the other hidden gem is Outpost. Right across the road.

Summit Lake Vineyards is the ultimate experience in small, family wineries. The views, 1800 era house, warm extended family conducting the tastings, the farm animals welcoming visitors, the fabulous zinfandel and cabernet sauvignon… sitting in a hammock, with a glass of excellent wine, peacefully taking in the view, serenity, and ambiance of Howell Mountain… what more could you ask for?

This is not your ordinary winery. The tasting happened around the dinner table of the winery’s owners. It’s not fancy, but it’s a cozy farm-like experience. The wine is very good and has the typical Howell Mountain taste and quality. We had a tour of the storage and bottling facility and it’s a bit like dropping back in time. Although not easy to find, it’s 180 from the high-end tastings down in the valley.

Actually tried to veto going here, but SUPER glad I was overruled. It’s beautiful and yet quaint, and the wine is fantastic. We went for the experience of a small, family run winery… but will come back for the wine.

This is the Napa that you find no longer: great wines, solid Howell Mountain fruit and a charming family to host you… without all the pretentiousness and Disney like aspect that you might find popping in most tasting rooms on a busy weekend. If you are lucky you might even get to try the Petite Sirah!

Wow it’s a drive up here but worth it. Came up for a tasting and we sat on some picnic tables outside. Small family winery(500 cases or so). Sat around and talked while drinking some Zin, Cab, and port. The port was too strong for my taste but we did like the Zin and Cab. 45 bucks for a solid Howell Mountain Cab not bad. Good people. Had fun throwing the ball to the dog again, and again, and again…

Once again, another hidden gem off the beaten path! I went with a close friend to a wine club event and they were very generous with their pourings which included their signature zin, cab, petite syrah, rose and a too die for zinfandel port. I especially enjoyed the zinfandel as it had subtle notes of black pepper and a cherry finish. The family owned winery is so quaint and the family is so hospitable and warm. They invite you into their winery as if you are a long time friend. All the wines are named after the grandkids of the owners so it is kind of sentimental too…
