I experienced a pedi. Have you ever had a dry pedi? Me either however I found it to be more relaxing and better experiance. Alyssa was my pedicurist and she did and amazing job. Explained the steps of the service, benefits of products and very knowledgeable. My favorite part was the reflexology. I will be back!

I used to dread going to the salon like going to the dentist, so I never aspired to find a stylist I was loyal to. However, Pure Salon has completely turned my attitude around. The desk staff is charming and professional and the owner attentive and hands-on. The ambiance is pampering but warm, not intimidating. What I really care about, though, is that my stylist, Chelsea is just wonderful. She has a real knack for efficiently explaining and educating… everything from cutting options, to styling techniques, to how to use a product effectively, including side-uses you might not have thought of. I never feel like I’m getting the abhorred hard upsell — in fact, I feel like the mini-education I receive each visit makes my time and money well spent. Chelsea has an astute instinct for what to suggest, and my hair always comes out looking better than what I would have come up with on my own. I even(unbelievably) like the way she styles it at the end. Although this might not be a «must-have» trait in a stylist, my favorite bit is that she can keep up a genuinely engaging conversation, but is just as capable of leaving a comfortable silence(what a relief.) I’ve received a lot of unsolicited compliments on how my hair is looking lately, so I know it’s not all in my head. I talk about this salon a lot, which is pretty weird behavior for me — so this good review is truly well-deserved.

I would agree 100% with the other two reviewers. I have been going to an Aveda salon for over ten years, and this is probably the 4th one that I have had experience with(since I have relocated several times). This one is probably the least friendly in term of front desk service and overall experience. At other Aveda salons, I was used to being greeted by name when I entered the salon and offered a drink when I enter the salon. Often times, they would also offer an aromateraphy with a scalp massage, a hand massage and make up touch up during the service or after. But at this salon, it’s basically you go in, get your hair cut and that’s it. With all that said, I have been going to Tiffany for almost a year now, and she’s done a really nice job with my haircut and facial waxes — so I’m probably not going to switch. Her hours are limited though since she’s part-time, so it’s a little bit of a challenge to schedule time to see her. But it is worth it for me than having to go through new stylists that are potentially inexperienced.

I’ve been getting my hair cut at Pure Aveda Salon for almost five years, and I’ve had both good and bad experiences. When I first started visiting Pure, it took me a few visits to find someone who could work well with fine hair. The first time, I actually called and asked specifically for someone who was good with fine hair. Clearly the receptionist just stuck me with someone who was free; the stylist I saw had no concept of how to make my hair look good(hint: you can’t texturize and thin it out like you would thicker hair). However, I kept trying, and eventually I found a stylist that worked for me. I saw her for almost two years and was pretty happy with the job she did. When she eventually left the salon, Pure sent me a letter letting me know she had moved on, and offering me a free cut if I came back in. I was very impressed with that level of customer service, so I was happy to continue visiting them. The last few times I’ve been in, I’ve seen Kayla, who I’d certainly recommend if you’re looking for a stylist in Ankeny. It’s kind of difficult to assign a rating to a salon since much of your experience depends on who your hairstylist is; after all, I’m rating the salon as a whole, not an individual stylist. So here’s the good: The atmosphere of Pure is very relaxing; I love the high ceilings, the warm paint colors, and the big windows. The product selection is great and the retail area is thoughtfully arranged. It can get pricy, but that’s probably just because I never leave without at least three new bottles of hair product. Here’s the not-so-good: Reception is hit or miss — clearly, I have not had good luck asking for their recommendations on stylists. Also, there’s a beverage bar behind the reception area, but I can’t recall a single time in the last five years when anyone has offered me a cup of coffee while I wait. One other pet peeve — there’s no tip line on the credit card receipts, which I hate, because I always feel so tawdry handing a wad of cash to my stylist. I’d much rather just write in a tip on the receipt(but maybe that’s just me). Overall, I’d say Pure is about a 3 out of 5 for me — or by Unilocal standards, an «A-OK.» I’ll keep going, but mostly because it’s convenient and I’ve found someone here that I like.

I cannot recommend Tiffany highly enough. I was my stylist for a few years and she never disappointed me. She truly is a perfectionist when it comes to your hair– from your color, to the cut, and even your eyebrows. She even does hair extensions. She’s always up on the latest trends and can deliver exactly what you ask for. The prices are reasonable and if you call in advance getting an appointment is easy.
