For a while, this location had the crispiest, lightest, home-made nacho chips. But lately, they just haven’t been able to get the orders right and when you look in the window, the food workspaces look dirty. Ugh. Lately, every time I eat here, I end of feeling ill. Fortunately, there are other choices. Abelardo’s has fresh food, made from scratch, and a super clean workspace. Taco Bell in Ames is excellent — smart, educated workforce! Taco John’s potato olé’s are way too salty for me – unedible, actually. I did call the store and let them know how I felt and the manager called me back and left a message saying he would make it right.

Saved the day. ABelardos was closed when promised to be open 24 hours. Saving the day for a breakfast burrito you redeemed my morning and did so with a smile. Staff presented me with a $ 2 coupon due to dropping my food on the floor and having to make new. Food was ready pretty quickly and staff was super friendly. Not a fan of chains but there was positive to be had by frequenting this store this morning. Thanks for putting my Sunday back on track.

All Taco Johns taste the same to me and provide the same service. I have not had Taco Johns until I came to Iowa. They, to me, are a better version of Taco Bell. Their food is a lot more flavorful and fulfilling. They also have potato oles which are very well seasoned hash brown pieces. They are also usually cleaner and well-operated compared to Taco Bell. If I am in a mood for fast food taco/burritos, I will come here.

This location was recently updated with Taco Johns’ new franchise look. The menu is very standard, but my favorite item lately is the beef chalupa. The staff here all seem to be younger, which could explain some of their rowdy and raucous behavior late on a Saturday night visit, but overall it was a good experience. Don’t plan on taking a large group here as the dining area is quite small. The drive-thru is quick, but I hate the steep driveway entrance to the store.
