After moving to Michigan, I was really surprised by the lack of places to get sugared(a type of wax). Finally I came across Akua and I decided to give it a try– I was nothing short of ecstatic. I’ve been here now multiple times to get Brazilians and have always been happy with the results, and no ingrowns! Tristin is great– she makes you feel comfortable and calm. I 100% would recommend Akua to anyone who wants to try a less painful version of waxing with someone who knows what they’re doing!

I was contacted by this business, they apologized and offered discounted services to compensate for the issue I experienced. I have not been to their establishment but feel that they have offered everything possible to remedy the situation. Hopefully someone who has actually been here will post a review soon.

This place was great. My husband bought a groupon early last year for me, but I just got around to redeeming it. Tristin was very gracious in scheduling and was easily able to accommodate my schedule. I had an amazing and relaxing experience at Akua. My facial and massage were both so relaxing, I wish I could go weekly! Pros: super clean and calming treatment room Carol is a super friendly and amazing technician — and she’s certified to perform pregnancy massage! convenient location, right across from Trader Joe’s No complaints and I’ll be back!

I’m really bummed to see so many negative reviews! I came to Akua for the first time in January 2013 and had a perfectly pleasant experience. So I’m here to change everyone’s mind about it! I bought a Groupon back sometime in 2012, and finally on Jan 1st, 2013 went to book it for the next day. I booked it without any problems using their online scheduling system(props for next-day availability!) but then I noticed they required a different procedure for Groupons. I emailed the owner, Tristin, explaining that I booked my appointment through their regular site before seeing the special Groupon instructions, and asked if I could still keep my next-day appointment. She was very prompt in her reply, was super nice and understanding, and said I could keep my appointment. Sooo the next day I went in for a 60-minute massage with Tristin. She greeted me when I walked in, was very professional and courteous, and after filling out the basic first-visit paperwork, took me into the massage room. The room was clean, with a nice calming ambiance. Tristin did a really great job during the massage, listened if I said the pressure was too hard or soft, and was very thorough. I left feeling very relaxed and definitely willing to go back another time. The prices are fair, definitely comparable to other places in Ann Arbor(and they usually have monthly deals!). And if you’re having issues booking, just send Tristin an email and I’m sure things will get sorted out. I recommend trying Akua! Don’t listen to the other reviews, they’re from a while back and I really think things have changed. It sounded like Tristin had some medical issues a few months back, which could have caused a lot of the inconsistency problems people have complained about. But I had a really great experience at Akua and with Tristin, and I hope more people give it a chance!

Akua Esthetics sold Groupons for an hour massage in June 2011. When attempting to schedule the massage, a gift I purchased for my wife, I could only reach a answering machine that informs you to book your services on it’s website. The website states that due to financial reasons they can only do so many groupons at a time so they have«special» time slots. The next aviable time slot is in 2013. I hate to go all Hulk Hogan on you but, «Don’t write checks your ass can’t cash.»
