Bank of Ann Arbor

As I work downtown I’ve stopped in to cash checks before here. I love this bank. They’re in the middle of remodeling right now but the tellers are still open. I’m familiar with the teller staff and have spoken with Joe Craigmile, a mortgage lender, before. The tellers are always smiling and friendly and they even remember me when I come in. In the new office they have Mighty Good Coffee for customers, which I really like as it supports our local community and its just the little things that show they care about the community and their customers.
Joe Craigmile, the mortgage lender, was extremely helpful. We didn’t end up purchasing the property that we went in to get pre-​approved for, and he wasn’t pushy. I will definitely go back to him when we find the right property. He pulled our credit reports, showed us what was good and explained what they’re looking for. He even gave us a few tips on how to improve them. He also took a look online at the house and told us about the area, looked at the specs and gave positive critiques about the property and an honest opinion of what we should offer if we ended up loving it. I think when it comes to giving your money to people it can be hard for me to find someone I trust and isn’t just trying to ‘rip me off’ but Joe felt more like a friend than someone just trying to get our business. I’m so lucky to have walked in to talk with Joe and we will definitely be back.

This is to 2^nd Mary K.‘s review above about Kevin Salley. My husband and I worked with Kevin 2 years ago to purchase our first house and he was great for first time home buyers. He took hours of his own time to educate us and answer our questions and secure us the loan we needed. Great to work with, highly recommend!

I got my home mortgage with BoAA. One minute after I got my loan, they sold it to Green Tree, a company with an awful reputation and zero customer service. This is a shady practice that should be outlawed. I expected better from BoAA. I am already having problems with Green Tree and I blame this on Bank of Ann Arbor; not on late payments or anything, just simple payment distribution and insurance.

I don’t belong to the Bank of Ann Arbor, but I’m thinking I might need to open an account here soon. I’ve been here several times to make deposits for work and the staff is always very welcoming and helpful. Today I went in to see if they’d make change for me — there was a short line but it went quickly, and the teller was more than happy to help me out. He even offered me an envelope for my cash. It’s really just the little things that make this bank pleasant to visit. Good customer service goes a long way.

We were first time homebuyers and very nervous about the whole situation — Kevin made us feel very comfortable, spent lots of time with us, explaining the whole process, and got us a great interest rate on a 30-​year fixed mortgage. And did not make us feel like chumps because we were getting an FHA loan for a relatively small amount, Ann Arbor-​wise. AND gave us a little housewarming gift at the closing. Total winner! I don’t bank there generally — we just got the home loan there — but if I still lived in Ann Arbor I would probably bank there.

While I am not a customer of this bank I went in to ask for a donation when I was doing a fundraiser for cancer research last spring. I spoke to the branch manager Hans Meier. He was very welcoming and said he would try to help me out. The branch ended up donating $ 100 to my cause (the ONLY Ann Arbor business that would/​did!). They also have fresh fruit in their lobby and seem to be very good at customer service. If I were planning on sticking around Ann Arbor long term, I would plan on switching funds here.
