Hole in the wall Korean? Don’t mind if I do. Date night with the Mrs. and we wanted to try something new. AMBIANCE– this definitely used to be something else. The painting on the wall suggests it used to be a café or something, the light fixtures remind me of a billiard hall, and the dilapidated ceiling suggest someone really didn’t take care of this place. Seating was tight… I guess what I’m saying is don’t plan your wedding reception here. SERVICE– this was a 4 person show. 2 in the kitchen, and 2(mostly 1) server. Let me tell you, this woman looked frazzled and was hustling. Not really a chatty cathy, given the restaurant was packed, I totally get it. Given our limited interaction, and how busy it was, it was surprising how quickly we got in and out. MENU– pretty extensive menu. They had menu the menu laid out into«rice entrees», «noodles», «seafood», etc… which makes it pretty easy to navigate. I couldn’t believe they didn’t have seafood pancakes on the menu, MISS! It was cool too, they had a couple of combinations of Korean favorites(triple bulgogi, bi bim bop and bulgogi), which I cannot say I have ever seen at a Korean joint. FOOD– my wife went with the bi bim bop and pork bulgogi combo while I tried the curry rice dish. My wife’s bi bim bop and pork bulgogi were on point. The bulgogi actually reminded me of tocino(Filipino breakfast meat). I was interested to see what«Korean curry» was like, and I’m sad to say it doesn’t seem to be any different than Japanese curry. In fact, I’m pretty sure I could’ve made the same curry at home from a mix. Don’t get me wrong, I like that mix, but if I want it, I’m staying at home. Banchan was good. 6 different dishes. Love me some banchan. OVERALL– good not great. As a couple of people have mentioned, this place is pretty pricey. And for the amount of food, there are other options I’d rather partake in. A bit pricy, but probably the best Korean food in Ann Arbor. 6 side dishes provided with the meal — you can refill 3 of them for free once.

Korean food is my 2nd favorite cuisine and so I am always eager to try a new place. After a few good recommendations I have been here twice and it holds its place as a go-to Korean restaurant. All of the dishes I have had were fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care and love. The inside(and outside) are pretty unassuming, it’s also pretty small so it can get packed quickly but every time I’ve been there I’ve eaten very well. The banchan is fresh and you get a more standard(but not often seen in Ann Arbor) amount with different options. The barley tea and fruit at the end of your meal is also a great touch. The prices are a little bit higher than other places so I don’t get as often as I would like but I look forward to the times I do.

I love this little spot and have been coming here for years. It reminds me of the smaller café style Korean restaurants that I frequented while growing up in the East coast. The reason why I especially appreciate this restaurant is that they offer several vegetarian options on their menu, which you don’t see too often at most Korean dining establishments. It does get pretty packed during lunch hours, so if you want a quick lunch during a work break, this probably wouldn’t be the best choice.

RESTAURANT This is a little restaurant with no fancy interior. Just go in, take a seat and enjoy your food kind of restaurant. SERVICE The couple who own this small business is also working in the kitchen. They were very friendly and that can be said for the boy that helped outside as well. Everyone was checking my well being from time to time and the woman in the kitchen smiled towards me when she saw me waiting for my meal. The food came out very fast. I had not wait no longer than 15 minutes for my drink and food. FOOD I ordered ice tea and galbi. The ice tea was unsweetened but that is fine. Sugar was plenty available if you like it sweet. As usual for a korean restaurant you will get some appetizers. I liked all of them. Pretty good. The galbi(korean short beef ribs), my favorite korean dish, was served pretty quick. Unfortunately the meat was charbroiled with gas instead of coal. Also for the price I expected better pieces of meat. My pieces got a lot of fat. The dish came with a small bowl of red bean rice. Very nice. The free piece of watermelon was lovely. CONCLUSION Despite of the few complaints I like this little korean restaurant. If the price had been right for the items I ordered I would have given it 4 stars.

I love Bewon’s food because their food is fresh and very authentic. They do not use any MSG at all(unlike many other Korean restaurants in Ann Arbor). I loved the pork ribs and spicy pork! I highly recommend them! Each dish is about $ 14. It is a very small restaurant but has a very calm and classy atmosphere. I love that they play classical music too. Our server was extremely friendly and showed great hospitality.

Good food, good pieces. My first experience with Korean food. I wasn’t turned away, but I wasn’t completely thrilled. My co-workers love th

BeWon is your typical Korean restaurant with a nice variety of banchan(appetizers) and traditional dishes such as bibimbop, bulgogi, and tofu stew. I would say the quality and portions are comparable to most Korean restaurants in Ann Arbor — only $ 1 – 2 more expensive. The spicy pork came out to about $ 14 and the seafood tofu stew was about $ 13. If you are looking for Korean food, I would stick with Arirang or Seoul Garden. But if you are stuck in North Campus, this place is worth an eat.

Tucked away in North Campus and mostly empty on a Saturday evening, Bewon is my newest go-to for Korean food in Ann Arbor. The friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere was only further enhanced with their absolutely delicious food. The kimchi was tangy without being sour, and veggie pancakes as a side-dish? Yes please! I opted for some budae jjigae, which was flavorful without being too spicy. Accompanied with purple rice(my favorite!), it was delicious and filling, and a slice of pear was the perfect end to a fantastic meal.
