I have lived here for almost one year, and I’ve already had two things stolen. One was the catalytic converter from my car. Someone actually sawed it off on a Sunday afternoon just a few months after we moved in. The second item to be stolen was my bike seat less than one week after I got it. There is so much crime here, I’d never want to have children here. I am almost positive there are drug dealers here, and probably a child molester or twelve. These apartments are targeted at low-income families, so of course, there is lots of crime. If you can afford to live somewhere safer, please do. As soon as I can afford to leave, I will. As far as the apartments go, it’s actually a decent place to live for the price. I pay $ 620 a month for a one bedroom, plus utilities, which usually comes out to about $ 720 total. The pool is really nice too, and the office has a small wifi room for free use. The apartment is about as nice as you’d expect for the price. Ours has newer carpet and a carbon monoxide detector. The door looks like it’s been kicked in before we lived here because the frame has been pieced back together. I’d be very happy here if only the neighborhood/location were safer. I’m scared to go out after dark, I’m scared to leave my car unlocked even for a second, and I’m scared to be in my apartment alone at night. I won’t even leave the house with the windows open, and we live on the second floor. At first, I thought the staff here was helpful, but the longer I’ve lived here, the more I see that’s not true. Our oven knob broke and it was hard to tell if the oven was on or off. One night, the oven was left on for hours before we noticed. We put in a work order right away, but it still took them two weeks to come fix it. One week, there was a construction company resurfacing the parking lot. We asked them if we needed to move our motorcycle, and they said no. They roped off the area that day so no other cars could enter… but that evening after we came home from work, we saw the motorcycle had been hit and part of the handle bar was broken off. The office here said there was nothing they could do because we couldn’t prove the construction company did it. I’m sorry that the crime here has tainted my view of this whole McKinley complex, but unfortunately, I can’t base my review solely off the cheap price and decent apartment. Again, I would never want to have children here, and I’d strongly urge you to look elsewhere if you can afford it. We’re actually considering breaking my lease just to leave this place ASAP.

Just don’t live here. I did for a little over a year(2003 – 2004). Not a good plan. It was good for the price albeit relatively dirty and smelly(cooking smells mostly). The front door to the building that was supposed to be locked for«security» was constantly broken, even after several complaints. It was fixed once but then some other lovely tenants decided to keep breaking it so they stopped fixing it. We were relatively sure we had some sketchy illegal type activity going on at the end of our hallway. The neighbors didn’t pay attention to their kids and they would run up and down the hallways, usually to purposely make dogs on the hall bark. They were pretty cool about letting us break our lease though so the management was at least aware of the crappy conditions they had people living in. They’ve since changed their name and removed the POINTE so it’s just Evergreen Apartments. Doubt there is a difference though.
