Freshens is what kept me going throughout college! The smoothies are delicious! And it’s combined with a cookie shop so if you’re having a rough day, kill two birds with one stone and order yourself a cookie! Personally I like the orange sunrise. I’ve heard less promising things about the dairy smoothies, so I stick with the fruit-based menu. When I went there, you got one free booster and each additional was 99 cents. I’m not sure if that’s still the policy. And I’m not sure if they actually add much nutritional value; I think for me the value was more psychological to feel as though I was getting something healthy or doing something good but ordering a couple boosters.

I came to the basement of the Michigan union to try Freshen’s Smoothies, it was hard to find, because it was part of Mrs. Field’s Cookies, but when I found it, I ordered the Maui Mango, at first, I thought that I just tasted one of the best smoothies ever made, it was amazing. Then I noticed there was a weird aftertaste, that didn’t ruin the smoothie, but it made it a little worse. I did like that there weren’t many seeds and the taste, but I cannot give a five-star review because the strange aftertaste, if that was fixed than I would.

This is THE perfect hangover antidote in my opinion. You’re thirsty, so thirsty, but getting sick from all the water you’ve been downing. You want something cold and refreshing. You feel like you’ve been beat up, and most definitely need some vitamins. Perhaps you need a little energy boost, too, since you were up so late par-taying. A Freshen’s smoothie is the answer, my friend. Conveniently located in the Michigan Union, this smoothie place is deeelish. They have lots of different options/juices and you can add yogurt or protein or other kinds of «boosters» like«energy» or «focus» that are all-natural as far as I can tell. And the combos they come up with are all pretty great, but I’m not a fan of the ones with blackberries/raspberries because they’re a little seedy.
