oh well, i guess it’s closed, i liked this place for the cheap lunch and assortment. sushi was the low grade, but tasted good. That stretch of wastenaw road is a resturaunt disaster. I have live here about 18 months and have seen about 7 places close and more that were closed when i got here

horrible food, but for 5 bucks for lunch buffet I didn’t expect anything great.

So me and my wife finally thought of trying this place out since it’s open for a few months now. I should say we were greeted by the nice new ambience and lay out of the food. And regards to taste, this is certainly one of the best buffet places we have ever been in over a decade. We immediately relished the freshly made food and we found everything beyond our satisfaction. We certainly shall be visiting this place many more times and have passed on the positive experience to our friends as well :)

I normally meet my clients for lunch at Asia City but one wanted to meet at the Hibachi Grill and Buffet a while back and I’ve come here a number of times since. The emergence of a solid, quality Asian buffet competitor has certainly had a moderating effect on prices at Asia City which, at over $ 15 with tip and tax, was getting a bit out of hand. I am sure that the rise of Hibachi Grill led AC to expand their buffet(knocking out the unloved center seating area which was no more than a glorified cut-thru to the restrooms and the associated smells wafting back). I prefer to go as Hibachi opens and have found the buffet food hot and fresh. It takes some time for the sushi chef to get all of the rolls done but I usually have sushi for my second plate of food. Don’t forget to try the cook-to-order hibachi grill — you pick the raw ingredients and sauce and the chef cooks it up on the grill. They tend to go heavy on the sauce so if you don’t want your food drowned in sauce(the sodium is a killer), tell the chef to go light on the sauce. I’ve even had it cooked with no sauce and added siracha chili sauce from the sauce bar near the cut lemon slices. Happy dining!

Great food for a buffet, surprisingly. Also surprisingly, they have the best sushi in the area(not that it’s too hard to beat the other places…). Specifically, their salmon nigiri is pretty good — and it’s buffet! But nothing else is really outstanding. This place gets 4 stars for their salmon nigiri — everything else is satisfactory, but not mouthwatering or anythign. But for Ann Arbor, I still come here

Decent buffet options, especially for the price.

Have sampled a lot of Chinese Buffets in the metro Detroit area. My favorites are Fuji Japanese Buffet in Madison Heights, and Mongolian Buffet in Warren. However, this one, Hibachi Grill in Ann Arbor is just as good as Mongolian Buffet for lunch! This review is for lunch only, but we will definitely come back for Dinner sometime in the future. Very clean, brand new place. The cleanliness stands out especially compared to Asia City and the former Dynasty that used to be at Ichiban 3 doors down. Layout is very simple; sushi area in the front, hibachi in the back, 8 buffet islands in the middle. Quality of the food was pretty standard as far as low-end chinese buffet goes, some standouts included the butterfly shrimp, hong kong chicken(which is actually a much better version of sweet and sour chicken), and bacon-wrapped imitation crab. The main reason for the fourth star is that everything was organized, tended to, and nothing was completely empty. Bonus for having both spring rolls and egg rolls that were fresh and hot. Service was good, fast refills on beverages, not talkative or overtly friendly, but it’s a buffet, you kind of serve yourself. I wouldn’t say this is the best buffet in the area by any means, but when you’re just craving an Asian/American feast and about to embark on a twelve week fitness routine to run your first competitive 5k(Yay Couch to 5k!), this just about hit the spot.

This food was surprising good. Very fresh, had things the kids liked. The food was being refreshed often on the buffet. The hibachi in the back is awesome, you pick your own veggies, eggs and meat and the guy cooks it up fresh for you. It can be a bit of wait, but worth it.

Asia City vs. Hibachi Grill? My choice is Hibachi. Asia City had a major monopoly over chinese buffets — and at one point charging $ 17 with tips and taxes. With the presence of Hibachi, prices have dramatically decreased and options have increased, in favor of the customer! Hibachi is brand new and has remained consistently clean compare to their counter part. The following is what makes Hibachi better: Service: Hibachi is not the best, but compared to other chinese buffets, they’re great. They may not be overtly friendly but most Asian places aren’t, while their counter part down the block is downright rude. Sushi: There is always fish readily available. Other buffets always runs out and I’m always waiting. Plus the fish are fresh and plentiful at Hibachi. Buffet/Hibachi Grill: Selection is comparable to AC. Overall, for the better service and cleaner atmosphere, I would go to Hibachi. Plus if you utilize their coupons — ranging from 10 to 20% off, price is even better than AC. Negative one — no birthday specials! Include that and you may get more clientele.

This was one of the last places that I got to eat before the baby came! I found this place due to Liz W’s review. I was definitely impressed, as was Tony. There are TONS of food options! Service was great, all of the servers help each other out as far as pre-bussing, drink refills, etc. I didn’t get to eat much of the sushi as I had wanted due to being pregnant, but I will be sampling a lot more next time! Will visit again!

This is good value for the money. About 11 bucks for dinner and there is tons of good food there. The servers/bussers are NOT friendly. They seldom smile, never say thank you, never say you’re welcome, never say hello, never say good bye. The guy at the grill is a troll. He has a tip jar but gets snooty when you ask for flavor or to grill longer. All in all he is a jerk. Big issue: They let kids run around yelling and screaming and never say a word to the parents. Yes, the parents are responsible but the management needs to say something when they do not.

Like others, I was anticipating the opening of this place for a weeks and was expecting a cleaner, more eclectic version of Asia City Buffet. I even got the coupon flyer in the mail that exclaimed this place would have such diverse fare as Chinese, Japanese, American, Italian, and«sometimes» Mexican food. Yes, it sounded like it was going to be an exciting, guilt-inducing midwest Chinese buffet. Yet, this place, didn’t deliver by any means of the imagination and left me actually feeling shortchanged even though I only paid $ 11 for dinner. The sushi here is less fish and mainly maki rolls of the«crab» and spicy mayo variety, which I usually like, but even that tasted off. There’s a hibachi station here that lets you make your choice of fried noodles or fried rice with whatever meat and veggies you want. This is good, because it gives you the option to make a dish of your own choosing when nothing else seems alright. Maybe it was a bad time, non-peak hours circa 8:30pm, because a lot of the food was cold and unappetizing. I even saw a woman from the back come out several times to just stir around the various dishes to let it «re-glisten,» if you know what I mean.

First visit, I wasn’t sure what to think of this place(because I’ve been to so many Chinese Buffets)… but it took a second visit to solidify my opinion of Hibachi. First, if you are not careful, you can drive by this place(unless you know the area)… I first thought they had taken over Dynasty Buffet, but that wasn’t the case… they actually opened few doors down from there. Second, based upon the store’s name on the front of the store, it’s hard to tell if they offer buffet or not… all they have is ‘Hibachi Grill’… Sushi — they do NOT have sashimi… are other Hibachi’s the same? meaning, do other locations have sashimi??? Their sushi is just ok, nothing special… and the two times I’ve been there, only one sushi chef was working, thus there were lot of plates that were empty. The turnover rate of the sushi’s were slow as well… the rice on some of the rolls were hard… however, this might have been caused due to the ice under the plates… but I must say the turnover on the rolls were slow… so if you go, go here when it’s busy and make sure they have two chef’s working. Chinese food — they are on the average side… No one dish stood out for me… I would avoid the soups… they all failed me… they had no taste… it seems they have more western foods here then other buffets… Grill — On my first visit, I had a plate made with mongolian bbq sauce… it was so salty, avoid the mongolian bbq sauce at all cost! the person working on my first visit was friendly and helpful, the person working on the grill during the second visit was no good… he was rude and had that attitude of ‘why am I here???’. Service — its standard level of service you’ll get at most Chinese buffets… They charge extra for soft drinks(pepsi products) and even charge for tea, when it’s free at most other places… Layout and Design — it’s clean, ease to navigate… they put out only small amounts of foods, which is good… but like all Chinese Buffets, even though it’s labeled, it might not be what it says :) Originally, I was going to give 3 stars, but opted for two stars. The main reason for two stars, no sashimi, no distant taste that separates this place from others… and with them charging dollar more for dinner, one would think that they would provide more services — in food, or others — but that’s not the case…

Tried this for the first time last sunday and i must say i was real impress. There was so many selection choices food wise(at least a good 200 choices) and the best part was the hibachi grill that they have to make there food fresh(my girlfriend would argue this and say that the fresh sushi bar is the best part). Love it and plus you cant go wrong when your spending $ 11 a person. So if you want quality food(chinese, american, sweets) and 10 choices of ice cream then yes, this is your place.

Hibachi Grill is my new favorite buffet! I live in Ann Arbor and have been driving from here to Canton to visit a Chinese buffet… until now. I have been to Asia City but found their food to be mediocre(especially for $ 15 a person to eat from the buffet). Back to Hibachi Grill… the waitstaff was impressive and always made sure everything was alright with us, and never let our drinks get too low. Everything around us was very clean, including the bathrooms. Some of my favorite dishes were the hibachi chicken, general tso’s(which i’ve never seen a buffet do so well), the coconut shrimp, crab cheese, crab rangoons, prime rib, they even had some buffalo wings that were quite a surprise to see at a buffet but they were delicious as well, I can’t even say anything bad about the Philly cheese steaks that they had! The sushi seemed extremely fresh and they had a couple new items available at the sushi station each time I got up to get a new plate! I had a piece of tuna sashimi that was delicious, a california roll, and a salmon roll. Each piece I had was very tasty, I’ll need to try more next time I visit. Now for dessert… by the time I finished my meal I was pretty full but having seen the ice cream each time I got a plate it was too hard to pass up. Unlike most buffets I’ve been to they have scoop ice cream and quite a few flavors. I got some cookies n’ cream along with some mint chocolate chip. Having been there twice already since they opened nearly a month ago I can say both experiences have been great and I will definitely be back soon.

For a buffet, this is top notch chow. This place is brand spanking new and super clean. It’s also one of the nicest spreads I have seen in awhile. We came here on a Sunday afternoon at 3:15, it is dinner fare and dinner prices all day. Every other day I think it is lunch until 3:30. We had a friendly greeting and were seated at a comfy table in a flash. Ice cold drinks were delivered before I could even settle in. We started with sushi. Shockingly good for a buffet. The nigiri was super fresh, the tamago, tuna, shrimp and salmon were especially good. The maki was great variety, with tons of different fillings(not just the same fillings of egg, crabstick, cucumber and oshinko with different toppings you get at the place down the street). The sushi line was a popular choice, with much of the restaurant partaking, but every time I went by they were restocked. The two sushi chefs were on the ball and always working, not standing around gossiping like I see elsewhere. The sushi was also not that half frozen stuff, it was nicely prepared and flavorful. The other food was much better too, more variety here as well. My husband was thrilled with the cheesesteak in pastry, a cheesy concoction with shredded tender beef. He was also a fan of the dumplings as they were in the thinner wonton skins and had tasty filling. There were plenty of peel and eat shrimps with cocktail sauce which is always happy. There is kid food here, something for everyone. Pizza, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, what looked like fettuccine alfredo with shrimp, I could go on and on. There are six different types of ice cream in a cooler, super fresh fruit and a salad bar. Even if you do not like typical Chinese buffet food you will find something to eat. The titular hibachi grill provides you opportunities to create your own stirfrys too. My parents and James ate some hibachi chicken, stuffed shrimp and peppered shrimp and seemed very happy with them. My mom went for the oysters with sriracha which she said were delightful, clams and various types of mussels which made her happy too. My dad liked the beef ribs and the prime rib which was soaking in au jus, done past medium but still tender. I saw him with crab wrapped in bacon and fried plantains. He was jazzed about the frog legs, which are a big fave of his. Everything seems to be in smaller dishes and rotated much more frequently. Things were tender, juicy and fresh, not dried out. The buffet was constantly being restocked and our waitress was always on the ball about plate clearing and getting us fresh beverages. Its super friendly here, with everyone clearly eager to please. The only thing missed was crab legs. I can deal, the only one at the table who was a bit bitter was my dad. The rest of us are more fans of dungeoness rather than buffet type snow crab. The price is a steal. 10.99 at dinner! Seriously. It’s also way better than any chinese buffet in the area in my opinion.

To be honest, I’d been staking out this place since we first saw the sign for the place while driving down Washtenaw, at least a month before it opened. We’ve been to a different Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet in Mishawaka, for Mother’s Day, and were unimpressed by the offerings there, but I continued to entertain semi-high hopes for the new Hibachi Buffet in Ann Arbor. My boyfriend and I came here for a late lunch/early dinner late Monday afternoon(the official switchover point from lunch to dinner pricing is at 3:30pm, but they take a little more time to completely switch the lunch offerings out for dinner offerings). There is a lot of seating available, including two private rooms as mentioned by a previous reviewer. When we went in, there was maybe one other couple dining there. The place was extremely clean, with good ambiance and friendly staff. We were seated immediately, with our server bringing our water soon after. We agreed that the sushi is the best deal here. I’m not sure how much of the sushi we had was«dinner buffet only», if any, but all of the rolls were still good, especially for a buffet. They have a selection of rolls as well as sashimi. I can be really picky when it comes to fish, and I did not find the tuna to be up to my standards(it was a little mushy), although the salmon was fine. There are an assortment of other entrees available, mostly American-Chinese dishes. We found nothing to be remarkable, but by the same token, nothing was awful except for the prime rib, which was tasteless. I did find the pan-fried dumplings to be quite good for a buffet(I am used to Asia City’s dumplings at buffets, which usually have the problem of having skins that are too thick and uninspiring filling). The chicken dishes here are quite good, and the shrimp isn’t bad either. There are some shellfish available, such as mussels, clams, and soft-shelled crabs. I must admit that I overindulged in sushi, and as such, did not try the crab. However, the mussels were pretty average. We will probably be back for their lunch buffet, just to see what is available when it isn’t «changeover time». If the sushi remains the same, then it’s the best sushi buffet deal in town. I disagree with Charles that it’s hands-down better than Asia City(mostly because last time I ate at Asia City’s buffet, they had bamboo shoots out, and I am crazy for bamboo shoots), but it’s still a great deal and you get your money’s worth of food.
