Easily the best bet for Jamaican/West Indian in the area. Simply put everything is real and tastes right. Too often, people take out the zing for a general audience. This place tastes like JA, except they give you sauce with the jerk, usually jerk is more of a dry rub. If you want the real, pour hot sauce over it before starting. If you’re serious, have them out on some«Peppa,» it’s intense tho. Low key: jerk pork is fyah!!! Special mention: jerk pit has Curry and Roti(a classic Trini dish that’s really hard to find). Do yourself a favor and dig in with your hands. And Ting!!!

The ambiance of the place is what makes me come here. Really feels like I’m sitting in a small restaurant by the beach in Jamaica. Now to the food. Oxtail is the best damn thing on the menu. A second favorite is the Escovitch Tilapia… it’s got a good tangy/savory flavor. The goat/chicken curry can be a little salty sometimes. Beef patties and jerk pork are good as well. I do have a gripe about the plantains – they used to come as a side with the entrée – now you have to order them separate. And the last two times they were REALLY oily and mushy. Prices are a little steep but it is downtown and they gotta pay rent, so I get it. I like the place and the food, if you’re craving spicy, savory food from the islands… definitely come here.

Excellent food, and some really tasty vegetarian options as well if you are so inclined. Really small kitchen and one guy cooking with a lot of attention, so can take a while if busy, but well worth it.

Hot is disturbingly hot. I love spicy food but this is the most redic spice I’ve ever had. The hottest sauce at Bdubs taste mild competed to this.

This place is my comfort food haven. Sad? Jamaican food. Need to celebrate? Jamaican food. I’ve been getting their Jamaican pattie(empanada thing) like every three days or so for the past two weeks when I need a quick tasty home style treat. At $ 3 it’s the best bang for your buck near campus in my opinion. Also, I’m very much in love with their spicy goat curry. If you like spicy but can’t handle super spicy, I recommend their medium level. I got caught off guard the first time, thinking it would just be «ann arbor» spicy. But whoo! No more stuffy nose. But that’s how I like my spicy food to be, so I always get the spicy.

My boyfriend and I love this place. I would give it it more stars, but looking for parking is bad:/ we drove around for almost a half hour trying to find parking before we gave up and went to another restaurant

I’ve been to the jerk pit in Ann arbor many times in the past and I always thought the food was just so delicious! I am Jamaican myself and its so nice to be able to find a restaurant near me that serves authentic Jamaican dishes. I am good friends with the owner Robert, he is so kind and friendly! You have to ask to meet him if you go there. We went tonight and had dinner for two, which I must say is very filling! We ordered jerk pork, curry goat with some rice and beans and a side of fish. Oh! How could I forget the sweet delicious fried plantains?! *must try*. Whenever you are in the Ann Arbor area and want to try something new I would suggest trying the Jamaican Jerk Pit!

I press these guys every week to make it spicier and spicier, and they sure do try. We love it at my work and eat here at least once a week if we can. This place has to be my favorite and the staff is the greatest. The jerk chicken is something that never seems to get old.

This place was recommended by a friend. She gave me the run down before I got here and she was right on point. The place is like a dive joint for lack of a better term. It’s a tight space in the basement of what appears to have been a residential home at some point. There are several small tables and chairs for dining. The restroom is similar to a gas station restroom. Plus you have to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. The kitchen is smaller than the kitchen in my home so I have no idea how they manage to feed the loads of customers that come here. On my way to the restroom, I passed by an older lady that was in the kitchen who looked like someone’s mom or grandma. She was cooking all of this food using a regular stove and oven. I must say, everything was delicious. It was a bit pricey for the type of place it is but well worth it since everything appeared to be fresh and homemade.

We stopped here for lunch on the way through town. Our family of seven was accommodated and served quickly despite the fact that this is a very small restaurant. The food was great!

The Jamaican Jerk Pit has an authentic atmosphere and a great location near campus. The food is flavorful, with slightly smaller portions than other Caribbean restaurants. The veggies, rice and peas, and beef patties are delicious. Prices were average, and the waiter was friendly.

The food there is amazing! But it took too long to get the food. Better bringing your iPad or something else!

Good, but a bit too spicy for me. I really enjoyed the rice & peas as well as the veggies. Even though the jerk pork was spicy it was very tender and prepared well.

I hadn’t eaten lunch and was going to be working late, so around 4 o’clock I wanted something tasty and filling, that would carve my lunch cravings and satisfy my dinner obligations. That’s where Jamaican Jerk Pit came in. Located right across from the diag it was just a short walk from my office. You come in to a dinning area but have to walk down to the basement for the restaurant and kitchen. I had no idea what I wanted but reviewed the menu and had a few options in mind. I was considering the jerk chicken pasta or the curry chicken. I asked the server which would be the largest portion and he suggested the curry. He was correct! The wait wasn’t long, about 10 mins or so. There was a steady flow of business coming in the restaurant, and everyone seemed to be enjoying their food(always a good sign). The cook also appeared to enjoy making the food. What a tasty treat, so glad I decided to give them a try!

I was here for restaurant week but on a weekday so it wasn’t *packed* but it was busy. Service was pretty slow but very cordial. Food was excellent and hot. Worth waiitng for but we were sitting upstairs and with all the traffic coming in and out, it was pretty freaking cold. If it’s too packed downstairs, I’ll be getting my food to go. But I *will* be going back. It was great food.

Feels authentic inside! There are friendly people who work there, plus the atmosphere is tremendous! I had their shrimp which tastes like heaven! The sauces go well with it. I like this place for the unique Jamaican experience it brings to downtown Ann Arbor.

Solid four stars. Went for a late lunch after 2 p.m. with a Hook’d deal. I got the Jerk Chicken Sandwich and fries. Regularly $ 8 but with the deal it was $ 6. It was pretty empty when we went in and got our food in under ten minutes. Service was pretty quick and friendly. Nice environment. A bit small, head downstairs to order, lots of decorations to look at and good music to vibe to. The fries were alright. I really like potatoes and these didn’t have any spices, flavoring, special texture, etc. The sandwich was good. I didn’t get mayo in mine cause I’m not a fan. But tomatoes and lettuce to fill out the burger. Bun was good but I wonder about how it might taste toasted?(my personal favorite on burgers in general) I really enjoyed the chicken but regretted only getting in the burger. A friend advised me to get the full meal next time. I really want to be able to savor that chicken flavor on its own. All in all, a good meal and I will definitely be back again!

Went there for lunch with a group of friends. We walked in at around 12:15 and found that the place was packed. We found seats and ordered around 12:30. It looked like there was only one server and he mentioned that there was only one cook that day, so I found it difficult to give him a hard time. Our food didn’t arrive until 1:15 and we all had to get to go boxes to take our food with us. In regards to the food quality, I would say it’s alright. I ordered the jerk chicken nachos and it was well prepared and had good flavor. However, I expected a little more from the toppings. It just had chips, cheese, jerk chicken and what appeared to be a pineapple salsa. If you are going to eat here at lunch, I would suggest to allot a large amount of time.

This is a nice little restaurant that you can easily walk by. Coworkers and I periodically go for lunch as they have some good specials. The jerk chicken special with beans and rice is tasty. They can also make your dish nice and spicy upon request. Paired with a ginger beer and you have a great combo. I’ve had their sandwiches a couple of times and they aren’t quite as good as the chicken special(spice rubbed thigh and drumsticks) in my opinion. Though a small place, they sometimes have music and dancing in the evenings. Definitely worth a try if you haven’t been before.
