New Moon Midwifery

All 3 of my babies were delivered with the help of New Moon Midwives. Looking back at my three birth experiences, all three were unique but what they had in common is they were all safe, supported and empowering. Thank you New Moon, especially Jamie and Amanda, for your caring love and support.

I originally started seeing a midwife through the University of Michigan. I really wanted to have a special pregnancy and birthing experience — I firmly believe that childbirth is not a sickness, and that hospital births take a lot away from this very amazing time. I was unhappy with U of M, and decided to try New Moon Midwifery, whose office is in the building where I was taking my holistic childbirth classes.
I could not have possibly had a better pregnancy and birthing experience. I worked with Amanda and Merrilynne, and a few apprentices. My pre-​natal care was very loving and one-​on-​one. I did not feel like a number. I had at-​home visits. They answered all my questions and concerns and then some. I originally planned to have a waterbirth, but my son was born too quickly (within three hours) so there was no time!
There was some overlap in my health care between U of M and New Moon. I could really tell the difference in attitudes. With New Moon I was really given a good view from both sides — I wasn’t just given the worst-​case-​scenario treatment. For instance, when I tested positive for Group B strep and U of M said that I would automatically have to go on anti-​biotics in the hospital, New Moon sat down with me and went through all of the facts regarding Group B strep and allowed me to make my own decision.
Amanda was there when I was in labor and I was so comfortable and felt so safe. Being able to give birth at home with people I trusted and loved made the experience bearable. I also loved vocalizing and not having to do that Lamaze stuff — I seriously don’t know how I could have survived contractions doing Lamaze, the vocalizations I created on my own was a huge coping strategy.
I can’t begin to tell you how happy my experience was and how good it was for my baby! After I gave birth I took an amazing herbal bath and healed all my wounds quickly, and my son also took these herbal baths and his umbilical cord fell off in only two days!
