University of Michigan

Great college experience here, in all ways. The campus is stunning and has a lot to offer in terms of student life. Greek organizations, sports, the whole thing. The library is amazing and the profs are some of the best around. The only cons are the tuition and cost of living in Ann Arbor. It’s out of this world and you’ll probably be living on ramen noodles like I did as a student. Damn, it honestly is one of the best, if not the best, college around. I hope my children can one day attend school here.

Man, this is a great campus, beautiful from one end to the other and lovely friendly women everywhere. I was here working on the set of a movie and for the week we spent at this location I thoroughly enjoyed myself and met some really cool people. I tooled around to every building and the museum, went running with one of the actors in the movie at the stadium. Very cool. Bought me a Michigan hat cause I like stuff with M’s on it and yellow, yes a color I needed in my wardrobe! he he The structures are very nice as well.

Beautiful Campus.
Coming from Cali, I came to visit my cousins who have graduated from here and as well as their younger brother coming into this University. The campus is huge and during my visit was a Unilocal event Ann Arbor Summer Festival: Top of the Park right on campus. So much spirit and pride flows through the streets of this campus.
The campus buildings have such great architecture ranging from modern to renaissance.
You also don’t have to go very far for restaurants, bars, and hole in the wall places to experience. We were able to park and explore all within a 1 mile radius.
I’d definelty come back again to visit and to explore more around here.

Very pretty campus. I visited the week before Thanksgiving and I got to see the campus with and without snow. The quad area was pretty active even when it was freezing outside. There were people making music near the M.
The architecture was beautiful and I got to see how much pride U Mich has during their last football game of the school year. Go BLUE!

I had a great time here as an undergraduate, and Ann Arbor is an EXCELLENT «college town» that has it all: Good restaurants and bars, fun things to do, and a good mix of nature as well, such as the Huron River, Arboretum right on campus where I used to jog, etc. One reason I attended this school was the vast number of majors and classes they had, even on obscure things (like, it’s the only school in America to teach Middle Egyptian, i.e., hieroglyphs, NOT Arabic!, to undergraduates, and one of only two or three schools that teaches it at all). If you’re undecided, you can go here and be sure that, whatever you DO decide to go into, it’ll be there for you. I enjoyed my classes so much AND had so much fun running around campus and town, climbing trees and chasing squirrels and seeing free concerts on campus or cheap concerts at the Blind Pig.
I also liked the fact that that they had a solid four months of summer vacation, meaning you could go home and earn a lot of money at a full-​time job. The only sad thing about this was that it meant that you never really got to be in Ann Arbor when the weather was NOT wintry or cold.
The other huge downside of the school, of course, is the cost. At the time I went, it was THE most expensive public school in America. The in-​state price was nice, but that’s because they fleeced the out-​of-​staters unwise enough to go there (i.e., me!) and this is the reason for deducting a star. It was something like $ 7,000 a semester for in-​state and $ 15,000 out of state. The experience is great but I do not condone people going massively into debt. If you’re in-​state, it’s ⁵⁄₅ but c’mon, non-​residents are human beings too!

Extremely overrated. Would not suggest going here for undergrad at least. They make a name for themselves by hiring nobel prize winning faculty with no interest in teaching. Most of my professors and graduate student instructors could barely speak English. Don’t be impressed by big buildings and expensive facilities. The quality of education is poor. The student body takes ‘the leaders and the best’ thing too far. They are all arrogant, wealthy kids from the East Coast who couldn’t get into ivy leagues. If you take a tour pay attention to how not a single student smiles. Even with a full ride scholarship, I decided to transfer out.

Beautiful campus! They have everything here! Visited the campus after my sister’s orientation and the overall environment is gorgeous! I wish I went here for school! Love Michigan! Go blues!!!

There really is no place like the University of Michigan. Its level of academics, athletics, school spirit, and resources cannot be beat. Once you are a part of community, you will find ties wherever you go. You will find that the block M holds so many fond memories to a wide array of individuals; and that it will be recognized wherever you go. Come check out Michigan! It is a place filled with life, intellect, and joy!
Go BLUE!

I applied this university as an undergraduate and was so shocked they accepted me. I went to visit the campus and area. It has a nice college town atmosphere. The campus is really big. They recommended that I do the Residential College, and I kind of regret not doing that. I really liked the Go Blue spirit. It’s a top public research university in the midwest and anybody who goes would be lucky to go to Michigan.

Best college on the planet!!! I’ve lived in Ann Arbor and went to the school for 5 years (I stayed an extra year because it’s so amazing).
If you have any reservations about going to this university, don’t! There is something for EVERYONE here and the friendly staff and teachers go above and beyond the call of duty daily.
If you’re willing to put in the effort, you’re guaranteed to get something invaluable out of the experience.

My home away from home for four years. I think about AA evvvvery day, and whenever I go back it is like I’m being reunited with a best friend (yes, the campus hugs me. It doesn’t hug you? Hmm.weird.)
I love central campus and north campus and the diag and State St. and S. University and the wave field and the BIG HOUSE and BTB and the Bursley/​Baits and and and and… it goes on – OH! chicken broccoli bake. Mmmm. dorm memories.
UofM is a wonderful school with a ridiculous number of opportunities (many of which I didn’t know about until I was about to graduate) other than the obvious ones — awesome education, epic amounts of school pride, and the cutest/​fattest little squirrels in the whole wide world.
One argument for not going here is always that it’s so big and you’ll get lost in the crowd. You’ll only get lost if you let yourself. I had plenty of small classes (7 – 20 people) and plenty of large classes (200+). The experience is what you make it. There is a place for everyone. Unless you’re a Buckeye… heyoooo.
What is there to say other than GO BLUE!

At U of M for sports in particular soccer. Facilities here are really first class. The school is big but sports stuff is all close and there are also many restaurants in the area. Great place. Go blue!

Some people call this their second home… some people want to get the fuck out of here… Me?
Ann Arbor is a charming little town that will get you fuked up… I mean literally the toilet was my best friend for the 5 days I was there. I came to Ann Arbor to discover the «Michigan Magic»…the fierce wolverine pride that pulses through the veins of every Michiganite such as… Why the thousands of «Go Blue» statuses on game day then followed by a million likes… Why the nostalgic Michigan Tales by Michigan alums of their beloved town…
After experiencing Michigan I can only attribute several factors to this so called «Michigan Magic».
1. Midwest People are very NICE
2. Drinking insanely a LOT builds strong friendships
3. Bars are conveniently located near the middle of campus
4. People that are not originally from Michigan
5. Game Day
6. Squirrels are insanely FAT and friendly
One thing I noticed about people from Michigan is that they are very humble, hospitable, and well mannered. They are actually nice, it is not a fake nice, but genuine… maybe it’s the Midwest charm? Or maybe it is just the awesome people I met.
People who graduate from Michigan can drink a lot of liquor… no lie… my Michigan friends can drink from 9 am to 3 am… quite an accomplishment… hence the outrageous drinking stories that you would only think would happen in the movies happen right in front of your face. I think these drinking tales help to create the bonds of amazing friendships, for example drunk people tie other drunk people’s shoes together and throw them onto the utility pole… after all there is nothing to do but drink in Ann Arbor, so best to keep your liver healthy! They say anything in Michigan stays in Michigan. Shots and drinks are insanely cheap! $ 3 – 6, $ 20 can buy you a «good night»…bars are right outside the campus and there only really a few good bars to go to… the popping places are… Charley’s (Signature drink here is the Fish Bowl (8 – 10) shots and extremely sweet), Ricks (where you go if you are trashed and completely wasted and have a urge to dance your butt off), Blue Leprechaun. You are bound to bump into people you know because there is nowhere else to go to on a Friday or Saturday night. So if there is someone you have a crush on in class or someone you hate in class, chances are you will see them.
People most in love with Michigan are people outside the state. Why is that? Because they are only in Michigan at the best time in their life and that is college. After that they leave and so they only have beautiful memories of the place… the memories acts as a time capsule that forever has a special place in their hearts.
Game day sums up the Michigan Magic… it is the day when students bring out their Michigan Swag to cheer for their football team. Students start tailgating at around 7 am, the town starts to rock, rumble, and shake as legions of die-​hard Michigan fans make their way to Michigan Stadium. One thing to note is that you are not allowed to bring a bag of any kind into the stadium… I learned this from personal experience. The stadium is loud and the fans ferocious… most people smells like beer… every touch down is celebrated by throwing girls up into the air… one of our friends knew all the dances and cheers, a Michigan ritual by heart. Seeing the school spirit in the stadium… it was beautiful… enough for me to want to become a wolverine.
YES the squirrels are so FAT in Ann Arbor. The reason is because there is a school club dedicated to feeding squirrels. The squirrels also have a distinct coat of fur, beige brown with a tint of orange. They are extremely friendly… to illustrate how friendly. I was only 4 inches away and they did not run away
As for academics Michigan is a great school, my favorite school was definitely Ross… the building is hi-​tech and nice… all the teachers have iPads, and the class room learning environment was stellar.
In summary, I think what makes Michigan so great is the people. The people there are awesome. The culture there molds you into an amazing person. Whoever is reading this I hope you decide to go to Michigan.

Worth every penny. Neck-​and-​neck with Berkeley for the best public school in the world.
For those bright students who are being seduced by smaller schools who intimate that a place like UM is «too big» and that you’ll «get lost» or «just be a number» — that’s a damn lie. You still get a very personal experience at a place like Michigan and you’ll meet a lot of interesting people who have a variety of opinions and passions. You won’t get much of that at a small liberal arts school.
So join us here in Ann Arbor! Don’t consign yourself to four years at a 3000-​person school in a city of 11,000. Come live in the greatest city in Michigan and feel the vitality that a true flagship university brings to its city.

Alright, I’ll be the one and only person to say I hated it here! I completed my undergrad at the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, & the Arts (LS&A), and looking back, I am not sure why I didn’t transfer schools.
For one thing, the point of college is to prepare you for a career. U of M’s career services center leaves much to be desired. Their typical «career counselor» is a former student 1 – 2 years out of undergrad, floundering around without a clue what to do. They don’t educate you on what types of careers exist, what the training for these careers is, and how the recruitment cycle works. They also don’t give you enough networking opportunities, or teach you how to get your foot in the door with firms. Given that this university is huge, and has a successful alumni base, I am shocked that the university isn’t providing us access to these kinds of people and skills!
Second, classes were cluttered with a liberal agenda — whether it was slams on Republican politicians made by professors, a forced LGBT panel in an introductory sociology course, or an anti-​birth control paper that receives an automatic C+ after a semester of solid A’s, this liberalism was much more pervasive than I could have ever imagined when I applied here.
Third, housing logistics. The dorm rooms are 1000 years old, full of dust, mold, and dirt, and you can hear everything going on down the hall from you, including 18-​yr-​olds losing their virginity in the communal showers, sorority pledges barfing their brains out after a 3AM hazing, or an impromptu middle-​of-​the-​night karaōke party. You can also smell everything including the rebellious teenaged boys taking a hiatus from the preceding 18 years of mandatory bathing and deoderizing that their mothers inflicted on them. If you can avoid the dorms you should. The meal plan isn’t bad, but the dorms are.
Lastly, I will say that I have to agree with the things others have said. U of M has great sports, great parties, lots of Greek life, and a fun downtown. So there certainly are good things to say about that; I just happen to be spending more time on the bad because nobody wanted to say it! If you choose to go here, you will undoubtedly have a fun four years, and make some great memories, but just keep the items above in mind when making a decision.

I had no idea college would be on Unilocal,but seeing my alma mater I have to give it 5-​stars, of course.
UM is big enough to have great sports and provide enough variety for a good college experience, and smaller programs to give a personal touch to learning. Also, the campus is uniquely integrated with the town. I have seen few other schools pull this off.
The weather is the only «con». If you’re coming from anywhere other than Minnesota, or maybe Chicago, expect a colder winter than you’re used to. But this weeds out the softies. I grew up in Michigan and ran outdoors year around.
I cherish my college years and highly recommend UM. Go Blue :)

An education here opens up many doors… mostly the front door so I can boot my daughter out finally (Totally just kidding).
Where to spend my hard earned money for an education… Hmmm.
Tough decisions. There are so many great schools in this state. I have had the fortunate (or unfortunate) advantage to pay for an education at three Universities. With the recent graduation of my daughter from this university this is definitely one of the best in the country. I have spend many a weekend day driving to AA to take my daughter out for dinner/​grocery shopping/​chauffering.
Uof M has everything to offer a student that wants it. If you don’t know what «it» is then when you figure it out they have «it». This university has all the history and tradition like no other.
My daughter got a paper cut the other day on her new diploma, she was actually bleeding Maize and Blue. Of course I tried to stop it with a Green bandaid but nothing stopped it.
