VinBar fell a bit short for us. The wine selection I’ll give a solid 3-star review, although be advised they only have wine from three different vineyards, who own VinBar… which seems to me is more of a tasting room than a wine bar… However, the service(aloof), ambiance(dated) and snack option(minimal), I can’t give above 2-stars. Not a total miss, but definitely won’t be coming back or recommending.

VinBar is my favorite place to grab a glass of wine in Ann Arbor. Prices are very reasonable, even for full bottles. The waitstaff has always been very nice and friendly. They let you enjoy your wine and don’t hover. It’s a great relaxed place to chat with friends and catch up. Try Rosso for a different but delicious sparking!

If you’re interested in a good glass of wine in a pleasant locale, then this might be your thing. The menu is extremely limited in terms of food, but it makes up for it with good wines and even better service. To start, the food menu is limited, and only the cheese board is of real value here. The wines are to die for and the prices are not as high as I would have thought beforehand. Service is key to me and that’s amazing. Very nice wait staff. One of Ann Arbor’s bright spots.

I was parched after a stroll around downtown AA on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon. I decided to stop at VinBar to wet my whistle and try some Michigan wines. As others have mentioned, VinBar is owned/operated by L. Mawbry, Good Harbor and Black Star Farms. The manager of the bar was a delight to chat with. She was more than willing to share her knowledge of the wines, wineries and wine making process. I told her I was planning a trip to Leelanau in the Spring and picked her brain on places to eat, where to stay, etc. They have a small food menu with cheese/meat plates, as well was spreads and a few sweet items to enjoy with your Michigan wines. They offer half glasses, full glasses, and full bottles of wine. Happy Hour offers full glasses of wine for the price of a half. I was heart broken when I heard the Acme Mercantile was going to close, but I am so glad to see this in its location. I highly recommend and can not wait to come back!

I have always had such a fun time at vinbar. Each bartender has been friendly and thoughtful about sharing their insights and listening to my tastes, even if I’m feeling picky. I feel like it’s a well kept secret downtown, it’s always a calming environment. I like being able to sit outside.

I have fallen in love with this little gem, nestled between the West End Bookstore and Starbucks; you might just walk right by — — But, for your own sake, DON’T! All the wines served here are Michigan made. You would think that result in a limited selection, but that is far from the case! The wines rotate every few weeks too, so expect variety! There are also wine cocktails — — I tried the mulled wine, and it was the perfect cold weather drink! Wines are available for carry out too(incidentally, at a reduced price — very cool)! There is also a limited snack list, which features nice pairings for the wines(i.e. cheese, truffles, etc). The servers are very friendly and knowledgable about the wines and vineyards, frequently sharing stories about each pour. Finally, the interior is cozy, and probably a great space for office/engagement/birthday/any party!

What a great idea for a wine tasting stop in downtown Ann Arbor, and it’s all local, Michigan wines. They are located on Liberty, just west of Main Street. Friend and I popped in just as they opened at 3pm on a Thursday. Our luck, it was happy hour! Full glass pours for the price of a half glass. We really enjoyed ourselves, sitting at the bar, and trying all the sparkling wines on the list, by L. Mawby and M. Lawrence. They have a sweet and a savory nosh item and a small dessert menu. We didn’t try any of the food. Definitely a must try.

If you’re coming here looking for food, you won’t find much. But if you like delightful Michigan wines in a chill, friendly atmosphere? This is the place. Owned and operated by the folks from L. Mawby, Black Star Farms, and Good Harbor wines, this small wine shop carries pretty much only their bottles along with a few bites per day(think a small cheese plate or shortbread) to compliment their pours. They have a variety of vinos, from the Mawby sparklings to the red and whites from Black Star and Good Harbor, plus a handful of dessert wines to choose from as well. Get it by half glass, glass, bottle in house, or bottle to go. Pretty great! An awesome way to get my fix of northern Michigan wines when I can’t make it up to the area.

A bar formed by three Michigan wineries: Black Star Farms, Good Harbor Vineyards, and Mawby. They sell wines from these producers by the half glass, glass, bottle, and bottles to go. The only food is a small cheese or chocolate plate. This is a great way to sample some fantastic Michigan wines from the Traverse City region. My personal favorites are the bubbles from Mawby… delicious!
