I am a manager of a retail location in the same complex as this Zoup location. Between my employees and I, someone eats here at least once per week. Personally, I am a fan of the more savory soups that Zoup offers(mushroom barley). However, they always have something else«brewing» in case i wanted to venture down a different taste bud lane. As others have mentioned, there are an infinite amount of samples waiting for you to make sure that you get what you want. Outside of the realm of warm liquids… Zoup also offers several sandwiches and salads that can be purchased in a combination deal or separately. Staff is always friendly, and quick to give advice on which soup they think I might like based on previous samples. Compared to Jimmy John’s next door, it is a little bit higher in cost, however, it still remains roughly equal to The Big Salad across the street. Overall, nice establishment, calm atmosphere, good food for a decent price, and a friendly face to help you make the right choice. Not bad.

While on the North Campus side of town, I blew into Zoup for a small bowl of soup w/a slice of Sourdough. I really like that Zoup offers samples of as many of their soups as you would like to try as you figure out which one you want to order. They generally have up to a dozen options in stainless caldrons at the ordering counter. After sampling a few offerings, I settled on the White Bean and Sausage and really enjoyed it. Zoup’s location on Plymouth Rd. In the North Campus area makes it a staple for UM students and townies in this part of town. At Zoup, you get exactly what you bargain for… a quick, warm bowl of comfort food at a fair price — 3 stars.

It’s alright. Service is always incredibly friendly, greeting everyone immediately as they walk through the door. They allow however many samples you want, which is nice because they always seem to have the crowd favorites(macaroni and cheese, chicken potpie) along with newcomers. They dabble in the seafood soups which I’ll give them credit for trying, but they’re never that great and incredibly fishy. So I went with my usual, chicken pot pie with a whole grain roll. It was tasty as usual and that’s what I like about this place — a consistent product that you know will warm you on a chilly afternoon. I’m just not a huge fan of the price. While it IS tasty, $ 7+ for a bowl soup and a decent roll is downright preposterous. I would visit this place more often if it was more cost-effective but I’d rather go get an upscale can of soup for $ 3 next door…

First time trying Zoup and I’ll give it an A OK. The tuna is nice with a hint of lemon and served on, get this, Green greens. Crunchy romaine was nice to see and the tuna salad was not too heavy on the mayo, or schmear. The whole grain chicken and dill soup was also really nice; a new take on the classic chicken and noodle. Staff here was super nice, offering the samples right away. Everything was still fresh having dined an hour before close.

Generous with soup samples which is good, because they have about a dozen. Everyone I tried was tasty. Cobb salad was a winner as well. We all liked our various meals. If there was one closer to home I would definitely go more often

The Mac and cheese soup is delicious! It has a really good flavoring that you can’t get anywhere else. I also love the sandwich and cup of soup combo — its a pretty good price for what you’re getting!

First time here, good that I didn’t read the review before. The food is good and fresh. 10 $ for salat and soup(lobster) is reasonable.

Was very pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed my meal here. I had lobster bisque soup and a cobb salad. It was so, so, so good. I don’t eat bread, so can’t comment on the bread they offered with the meal. They also had Fresca, which is my favorite soda. Bonus. The soup is a little pricey, but the quality was excellent. I am definitely a fan.

I was craving soup, and had no food left in my house since I was leaving on a trip the next day so I took the opportunity to try Zoup. I ordered a combo of their white bean with turkey sausage soup and half a tuna sandwich, with a sourdough bread side. When they asked at the cash register, I gave in and upgraded to a cup-sized rather than side-sized portion of soup for an additional $ 1 if I remember correctly, and the total amounted to ~$ 10 or more which was disappointingly more than the meal was worth. Absolutely, and even acceptably, mediocre food, if they just lowered their prices.

I personally surprised to see negative reviews here. I give four starts for what I can get under $ 8. First, I think the price is right and reasonable for less than $ 8 lunch. Staff who work there are nice and friendly. I like that they offer samples:) Breads are always warm and fresh to me. Quick and easy. No complain. Update: I went there to have«Italian Wedding» which is my favorite, but they didn’t have it today. I sampled French Onion soup, but it was too salty, so I just ordered collard green soup. I didn’t sample because I though this cannot go wrong. I was wrong. I say this place is hit-or-miss

I work nearby and was looking for a new place to try for lunch. My coworker comes here all the time and suggested I try it. I fully admit I’d not the biggest soup fan, however, I thought it was worth a shot. I was very pleasantly surprised! I admit I was concerned when I saw the vast amount of negative reviews here, but who am I to turn away from a place just because of negative reviews?(Apparently I’ll still go, ha). I’m one of those people who picks ONE thing and that’s the only thing I’ll ever order, but I’m always happy with my soup of choice. Yummy!

I was really surprised to see the ratings of this place! It is one of my favorite restaurants and I frequently dine there. I love the Cheeseburger and Broccoli Cheddar soups. Service is always fast and friendly. Only reason for not giving 5 star is that they don’t always serve the MTB sandwich, it’s seasonal.

I received moldy bread twice already when ordering to go. I will no longer eat here. That is pretty nasty and bad for business!!! I see many complaining about prices… well although ALL of Ann Arbor is fairly pricey in general, most soup quality could be better. I can see if they were all organic then the price would make sense but they are not so the price should be lowered specially for the quality which could be better. I was fine with a couple of the soups there but I can not get my self past the moldy bread to try it ever again, no telling how old the soups really are!

Believe what you hear: this place is WAY overpriced for what you get. Unless you have $ to just throw around, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. It’s not that the food tastes bad, per say, it’s just that it’s dull and lifeless. And yes, soup is overcooked for sure. What do you expect with them sitting out all day like that? It’s cool that they let you taste them, but you really can’t justify paying for what you get.

The concept is not novel: Zoup! is Panera/Noodles but soup. I will agree with previous reviewers that the veggies in the hot soups were overcooked. I had the chicken pot pie soup, but without the bread crumbs – they struck me as a horrible idea and didn’t add at all to the sample I tried. The bread that came on the side was really dense and I didn’t bother with it. The soup was fine(minus the mushy veg), but as previous reviewers have noted, a $ 9 soup lunch should be better than fine. It should polish my freakin’ shoes! The dining area is nice and the service is fine, but I doubt I’d come back.

This place has a pretty terrible rating: even still, I just had to come here. I love soup, salad, and sandwich places! I am not going to lie to myself or pretend Zoup is high quality. Most of the reviews about the soup are totally correct. I sampled every vegetarian soup that they had(Lemon Lentil, Vegetable Bounty, Vegetarian Split Pea, Chilled Gazpacho), and they were all but one of them was mushy and over-cooked. To be honest, all of the hot soups appeared to be mushy and over-cooked. The chilled Gazpacho was delicious! The veggies were fresh, and cold soup was somehow very refreshing. I also had the Veggie-terranian sandwich, which was pretty good. My order was the combo of half a sandwich, and I sized up my soup for .99. My total was $ 9, which is pretty freaking expensive for the quality. The delicious meal I had was barely worth it, so I can only imagine how disappointing this would be for someone who got their over cooked soups!

I enjoyed Zoup when I lived in DC, but this location didn’t blow me away. Maybe they don’t get a lot of customers, but their soup didn’t taste as fresh as normal. Like it had been sitting awhile. They do have lots of soup options(including a couple vegetarian ones). I normally get the pick two(salad and soup). For $ 9, I’m realizing it’s not worth it. The salad is small, and has only a sprinkle of toppings. I could have gone to Kroger next door and made a halfway decent salad myself for less. I should just stick with soup alone. It’s a nice change up, especially in the winter, but I wouldn’t go out of your way.

I had the Two deal, Tomato Basil soup and Greek Chicken wrap, and I must say, if my lady friend didn’t invite me in here, I probably would not have entered. The two employees behind the counter both seemed scatter brained, I recall repeating my order back to the one guy serving us two or three times. The meals seemed expensive for what they were(small sandwich + a cup of high salt soup). While the food wasn’t terrible, I’m not a fan of it. If I had the choice to eat there again, or drive another 15 minutes to get home, I would choose the later. Funny enough the website for Zoup! advertises that it has nutritional information for its food, but good luck, I wasn’t able to find anything other than a list of «solid» ingredients(which does not nutrition make). This place didn’t win me over at all.

There was two incompetent employees behind the counter. Neither of them was manager material but I assumed one of them probably had that title. I was confused about which direction the line went so I asked one of them and she didn’t know either?!? There was a sign where the line begins; but which way the line forms, I guess is up to the customer. There was a few customers ready to order and the only way they knew who was next is by who spoke up first. The two employees must not see the place busy that often and got confused easily when handling multiple customers. The place was almost dead silent except for one four top that you could practically here every word of thier conversation. It was a very awkward atmosphere with no background music and was poorly lit. I ordered a bowl of chicken tortilla and a turkey club sandwich. I had ordered the soup before at another location and figured it would be the same but something was missing. Maybe it was old or watered down or something, but the flavors didn’t really please me like I had hoped. The club sandwich was very bland and I expected more. Usually on a club there is lettuce and onion, or something to give it some zip. This was just plain with turkey, tomato, cheese, and one chincy piece of bacon. My order came out to about $ 14. Now for that price you can go to lunch at most fine dining restaurants and get a soup and sandwich. I didn’t get anything to drink and placed my order to go. I have been to other zoup’s before and didn’t expect a whole lot, but this was my least favorite visit. I will probably not go to another zoup again because of my experience at this one.

Of my 57 reviews, only 3 establishments are so honored to have received a 1-star rating from me; call me a Unilocal!softie, I usually like to give out good ratings, but for those that I feel truly deserve a 1-star rating, I’m not hesitant to give it out. Congratulations to Zoup! for earning my 4th1-star rating! I had a sandwich and some soup. As for the sandwich, it was a plain jane sandwich, that I easily could have made myself for probably about half the price, with double the meat and cheese. I can compare the sandwich more to bird food than people food. As for the soup, I chose the lobster bisque, which was so proudly advertised within the store for being oh-so-creamy and delicious. Well, the real deal happens to be so watered down, I didn’t know whether to drink it or use a spool to ladle it within my mouth. The soup maybe could have saved the meal it if had lived up the the great Zoup! expectations, of actually having the consistency of the soup which was advertised, but instead I got a watered down mess which could have been closer to the liquids which were squeezed out of the floor mats from the kitchen of a Red Lobster; if that doesn’t get your mouth watering, I don’t know what will. For those thinking that they are going to a nice alternative to Panera, well check yourself before you wreck yourself, because unlike me, you can save your well earned cash to buy 3 gallons of gas, if you’re lucky, a dozen Mcdoubles from McDonalds, or a couple boxes of girl scout cookies, all which are far better alternatives than wasting your money on Red Lobster floor soup and bird food. Good Night!
