My review is significantly delayed but hey, it’s still helpful. My mother was diagnosed with lung cancer in late 2009. She did not want treatment and let it run its course until she/the family were unable to handle it. If it were not for these amazing people at Hospice of the Chesapeake we simply would not have been able to provide my mother with the peace and comfort of dying at home. My experience with this hospice was not long, only two weeks until she passed away but it was definitely a powerful experience. The main nurse and other staff were all amazing, polite, compassionate, every quality you’d expect from hospice they have. They were very informative, caring and comforting. They helped me to understand everything about hospice care and gave me the confidence and reassurince I needed to care for my mother to the best of my ability. They were there for my family every step of the way, and gave us all the comfort and sympathy we needed it most. Anytime day or night my questions would be answered, and would stay with us as long as we needed them. They took excellent care of my mom, kept her clean, comfortable and managed her pain well also giving me the skills I needed to be her caregiver. The day my mother passed away it was during the start of a bad snowstorm, very early hours of the morning. She called back immediately and came to my house as soon as she could to help and stayed with us until all the arrangements were made. Hospice of the Chesapeake is exactly what hospice should be, I highly recommend them if you ever find yourself in this unfortunate decision. Although it’s always sad to lose people we love, you will have the comfort, peace and compassion to look back on, making the best you can out of the situation, and you will always have that peace of mind your loved one was in excellent care the final stages of life. Thank you so much for everything you did for not only my mom but our whole family, I will always be grateful to you!

Horrible experience. Everyone kept telling my siblings and I how wonderful hospice was. We did not experience this at all. Our mother was under hospice care for 7 months and we found the weekend and overnight nurses to have more compassion than the nurses that saw our mom on a weekly basis. The social worker didn’t even contact us once our mother passed. Overall I would not recommend this hospice to anyone.

I did not know what to expect when placing a loved one on Hospice. These wonderful people made us feel very comfortable and only embraced us with love. They made my loved ones transition from nursing home back to our home very smooth and were there for us every step of the way. This is truly an amazing company!
