I once sailed across the ocean in full gale force winds in the dead of night. That was scary but nothing compared to my week-long Womanship onboard course. The skipper was the worst part of the trip. The first day she screamed at me for tying the wrong knot(ie not the knot she wanted). We were dockside at the time and everyone within earshot turned and looked at me. It was humiliating. One morning I arose earlier than everyone else, made a cup of coffee and went on deck to commune with nature. About a half hour later, I heard a loud commotion in the galley. The skipper was having a tantrum because I had not made her a cup of tea! To top it off, she got our anchor stuck on an undersea cable — in waters that she supposedly knew very well. After the trip, I complained to the owner of the company who took the side of her egregiously rude and unprofessional employee. My advice? There are many excellent sailing schools to chose from, don’t waste your money on these jerks. And don’t believe their slogan, «Nobody yells.» They do. Loudly and often.
