John H. Karan, MD

Today was my second appoint with Dr. Karan. I waited 45 minutes past my appointment time to see him. I was having a particularly rough day with My MS. The nurse finally called me back. As I was waiting for the doctor, he said it would be just a minute and took a gentleman who missed his appointment time and had to leave in just 20 minutes. I guess the doctor decided that my time had no value since he appeased this loud couple. It might be the MS, but I felt abused and stormed out. I’ll never return.

Doesn’t deserve a star. I was unfortunately seen by Karan in the emergency room and subsequent follow up four days later. Completely made the wrong diagnosis of my condition thinking it was neck (vertebrate) issue when in fact I was having a brain hemorrhage right in front of him. My left arm went numb, I started to slur my speech and this guy is completely clueless. He asks me in the middle of all these obvious symptoms if he should call an ambulance and to which hospital do I prefer to be sent. Thankfully the ambulance came quickly and was taken to John Muir where several well qualified Neurologist were able to attend to me and within a week I was back home and 100%. His secretary is worthless and has no concern for the patient. She didn’t even advise him I was in the room waiting when she could clearly see I was not feeling well at all. He had no idea. Now I’m getting billed from him when in fact my insurance has paid the amount required and I made the proper co-​payment. According to his billing department, sometimes Karan cashes the checks the insurance sends but doesn’t notify his billing department that the payment was made. I would avoid this guy at all costs. It’s very clear when you talk to this quack that he’s the one that needs a Neurologist.

Dr Karan was the neurologist in charge who cared for me in the hospital after I had a stroke following knee replacement surgery. He instills a lot of confidence in him with his straight talk and very caring manner. He came to see me EVERY day. None of my other doctors did that. Every day, he would encourage me and reassure me I was going to be fine. And I am. He’s prompt, thorough, caring and very professional. I decided to make Dr. Karan my neuroligist and am very glad I did.

Expect a very long wait to see him. Unfortunately the doctor talks on his cell phone alot during tests he is running, which patients find inappropriate. Not a very professional office or good medical experience for the patient.
