Probably my favorite sushi place in the Brentwood/Antioch area. The rolls come out quickly and are very good. They have lots of fun rolls that are unique to them. Service is usually pretty good!

I had an absolutely divine time at Kanpai Sushi tonight! It was my first time going to this restaurant, and I am so pleased with how everything went. Upon arriving around 7:30PM, they were pretty busy. I wasn’t in a rush, and was eating alone, so I didn’t mind. Even though they were nearly at capacity, the servers did an amazing job of making sure the customers all got seated and placed their orders. The prices here are VERY reasonable, and compared to other sushi places in the area, their prices are $ 1 – 3 cheaper per item. I got 2 California Rolls and the Teriyaki Chicken dinner plate, and all of it was FANTASTIC! Absolutely delicious food, exactly how I like it. The food was presented eloquently, and I was being waited on in a timely manner by the servers, being checked on at appropriate intervals. A job well done to the servers for the evening, Jimmy and Danielle – they were both super courteous and kind, and I highly recommend this restaurant when they’re waiting tables. They provide excellent service and I hope to see them when I return.

I called around 2:30 on a Monday and they said they’re closed! I frequent this place every week & have never been closed so early. If it was a slow day you still keep the doors open until the legal time that you give all customers! New or regular! Ugh. I really was craving sushi bad today.

The staff is super nice. This is the only sushi place I would go to if I can’t get into the Bay Area.

First of all, my son and I really like this place. My son loves sushi and this is his favorite local place. The food is good, if a little pricey, and the service is usually pretty good. My only issue is their refusal to serve you if you come in within the last hour before they close. I worked my way through college as a server so I understand how frustrating it can be when people come in close to closing but if your sign says you close for midday at 3 p.m. and people come in at 2:20 p.m. then you should serve them and not turn them away. Your posted hours are there for a reason and if you’re not going to abide by them then you should change them. P. s. On the bright side the Crazy Roll is AMAZING.

Kanpai is way over priced for the amount of food you get. The quality is subpar and for the prices they charge for rolls you’d expect way more. The restaurant is also super small and cramped and for the prices your paying you’d expect better ambience. If you want to get a sushi fix and don’t care about paying a lot for average sushi then this is your place. Won’t be coming back here, wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

My wife and I went to Kanpai for lunch. We arrived at 2:25 pm, they close at 3:00. We were greeted with«we are closing soon.» My wife asked if we were going to be kicked out at 3 and the answer was that they weren’t going to seat anyone else and that we were lucky we made it in time. We didn’t feel lucky and we left and are eating at another Sushi restaurant as I write this. If you are closing at 3:00 either sit people graciously until then or simply close earlier. I don’t plan on going back and would recommend that you think about it before patronizing Kanpai.

Unimpressed. Spicy yellow tail roll, three amigo roll, and baked Cali roll, non of which I would really call good even. Brought us the wrong roll to start things off too. Had construction equipment/materials out. Should be way better for what I can only imagine is a mom and pop spot. One and done with this place.

Living where I live, there aren’t many choices for good sushi. What can I say? I’ve been spoiled. Kanpai is subpar for me. I like to give restaurants 2 tries when I’m not entirely sure about how to review them. I came to Kanpai for lunch about a month or so ago and it was great! You get a lot bang for your buck when you order a bento. The sushi rolls are a little bit disappointing for the price you spend. I came here last week again for dinner this time. Sadly, there are no dinner bentos. But there are entrees that are similar. I ordered the salmon teriyaki with mixed tempura(their only non-meat option). The salmon was slightly burned leaving a bitter taste on my palette. And the tempura sauce was tasteless. Almost felt like I was dunking my tempura in water. The tempura, however, is super crispy. And I think that that stays pretty consistent throughout their lunch and dinner menu.

My wife wanted to eat at shirasoni, we had the longest wait, maybe 2 hrs over there about a month ago and we ended up eating at the bar because it was taking so long. Took forever just to get waters and when out ichiban came out our steak was over done and cold. We decided to go again the day before Valentine’s but it was a 20 min wait even at the bar and since we were going to watch a movie I didn’t eat to wait. My wife wanted sushi so we went across the street to kanpai sushi. We didn’t have to wait too long, some couple was finishing up and they had to clear it. When we got sat down, service was quick. The rolls, soup, and salad came out quickly and our bento boxes came out shortly thereafter. The waitresses were quick and friendly. I recommend you try this establishment.

This place is awful. I’ve tried multiple times being that I live and work across the street, and for awhile I was a regular and brought coworkers here. But the service never got better, half the time they won’t answer the phone so we can’t put an order in for lunch, which would be a large expensive order with all of us haha. So between the bad customer service and hit or miss on the food quality we are all over it and give up on kanpai. Was hoping with the new owners it’d get better.

BUYERBEWARE! 1÷11÷16 Our family has eaten here regularly over the last few years but we had noticed the service and quality of food has lessen lately. My daughter and her boyfriend ate their last night and now he has food poisoning. He hadn’t eaten all day and they decided to go get Sushi for dinner. He ordered the Philadelphia roll and she ordered a cooked shrimp sushi. Thank goodness they didn’t order they same thing or they would have both ended up in the emergency room today. He is there right now being treated for food poisoning. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone after this. Be careful before you eat anything at this restaurant. We have also called the health department requesting they investigate.

Went there yesterday, gyoza is bomb! The sauce is the best part, it’s tangy with a hint of spicy. Got two rolls the Michelle and a baked salmon, both had crumbly rice that kept falling off when you pick up a pc. Decent, but won’t come back here.

Looove this place. I’ve tried a couple sushi bars since moving herefrim Hawaii and have been mostly disappointed but when I tried Kanpai I knew I found my spot. The fish is fresh and the rolls are the perfect size. I try a new roll every time I come and I’ve even turned my boyfriend into a sushi lover.(WIN!) I’ve come in a few times on a Saturday afternoon and even though it’s moderately busy, they service was fast and everyone was very friendly. If I could give them 6 stars I would.

When I walked in I was immediately greeted by staff and received my drink. I ordered my meal and had it in about 15 minutes. The waitress was not very attentive once food arrived. I am giving it 3 stars as to the booth seats have duct tape on them very tacky. I would eat here again.

Not one to leave a low score — ever; however I will never return to this place. Food was bad. Not just«so-so»…it was not fresh and tasted bad — all rolls. Spent $ 100+ with friends and thought we could look past the food, but the service was just as poor. Slow, unattentive and just didn’t care we were there. We clearly didn’t eat all of our food and no one asked if everything was ok. Ok-enough said. Save your money and go elsewhere.

GREAT food, and GREAT staff! Price is not super cheesy, but not expensive. Good price for GREATGRUB! The reason your food isn’t out right away is because it’s made just for you. You don’t have to worry about eating sushi that’s been sitting on the shelf all day.
