The cleaners did a good job, although they did not clean the top of my light fixtures in the bathroom and a few other areas. My place was very clean to begin with and I wanted a top to bottom clean to reach those areas that I may miss! I even left a 20% tip for the cleaners! I have had them out before to clean and they did a good job, so that is why I had them come out again. The main issue was the cleaners left 2 of the gas eyes on on the stove. It wasn’t enough for flames to come out, but it was enough to fill my place with gas. They even left me a note about the terrible smell. They indicated to the owner that they checked the gas and seemed to know it was the smell of gas. But, they did not tell the owner to call me to tell me I had a potential gas leak! I came home several hours later to a very dangerous situation! I am thankful that I sent my small dog to doggie daycare for the day, because the fumes would have likely killed her. The gas company told me how lucky I was that there was not a spark, because it would have caused an explosion. I live in an apartment, so that not only put me in danger, but also all of my neighbors, including the people downstairs with a newborn baby. I contacted the owner via email that night and did not hear anything back. The next day I felt certain she would call me right away, but she did not. I called at 10:00am and asked to speak with the owner and she finally called me back later that morning. She apologized, but did not seem extremely concerned, although she did say she re-trained the employees and reminded them to double check the knobs on the stove if someone has gas. I was excited to come home to the smell of a clean house — and instead came home to the smell of gas and I had to spend 3 hours outdoors, waiting for my place to be safe enough to enter. That night I had to sleep with the windows open(and there was rain all night) — and everything was very damp. It really made me unhappy, because this was something I was looking forward to and I was considering having them come out on a monthly basis. I changed my mind after this experience. As a comparison, I had an issue with a shipment from Amazon that same day. They shipped out a replacement, as well as something extra, free of charge. And, they called me the next day to ensure I was satisfied and that everything arrived as expected. The owner here could have sincerely apologized and offered me something nominal — 20% off a cleaning — and I would have felt like she really did care and I would have likely become a regular client. Instead, she just apologized and that was it.

They do a good basic cleaning of all surfaces. There were issues after the first cleaning when the ladies did not clean our stairs at all or master shower very well. They organize everything nicely and do a good job in the kitchen. I have noticed shelves(or wall hangings) that haven’t been dusted, mirrors(not bathroom) that haven’t been cleaned, and some areas of the floor(usually corners) that haven’t been scrubbed. Overall, I’m happy but do have to supplement some cleaning myself.

Dust and Mop is good, all the cleaners have been professional and hardworking. They do a very good job at surface cleaning. I would give 4 stars if the same person came to my house to clean each time or if they sent a team of people to my larger home so cleaning didn’t take ½ the day.

Consumer beware. With the multitude of other cleaning companies in the triangle, find one that cares about their clients. Dealt with the owner today on the phone to try to resolve a broken arm of a recliner… disgusting experience. Will update my review when the BBB claim is finalized. ****Update: Stay away, obviously there are some serious issues within the company as the owner is still replying with unprofessional comments about the quality of my furniture(which is leather and well over a couple thousand dollars, but that’s beside the point) I’ve moved on & hope that my review will help save someone else the headache of dealing with Dust & Mop. Those ‘hundreds of happy customers’ must not be Unilocal’ers.

First, Unilocal, where did the previous three reviews go/why don’t they factor in?! ________ We love to support local businesses — and moreover the owner of Dust and Mop is a NCSU College of Management grad and we have close ties to the school. They also say on their website that they usually charge less than franchises, customize and have referral programs which would benefit us nicely with neighbors and friends. Check, check and check. We scheduled their Top to Bottom cleaning service because our Mom recently passed away and Dad finally agreed to have professionals come in and help him and my two sisters who have since moved back home. Yes, the house is big(around 5,500 sq. ft., 5 bd/4.5 bath), but it’s always kept organized and well maintained in general. Mom really set an exceptional cleaning standard and it was one of those things where we wanted the new season to start fresh. Dust and Mop sent out three very nice cleaners and they spent about 6 hours in the house. Now for what they did in that time it was cleaner, but we didn’t feel it was an accomplished«spring clean» through and through. Add to that they charged $ 700, and wow: THATWORKSOUTTOBEOVER $ 100ANHOURANDBREAKSDOWNTONEARLY $ 40/HR PERCLEANER. We gladly pay for tried and true service but it was more in and out and at the ultimate price breakdown it’s shocking… They say the charge is «by the job» but the hourly metric benchmark provides objective; I’m 30 and in healthcare and it would be more cost effective to take off work for several days and essentially do and complete myself than it would to use Dust and Mop again. That said my sister talked with them and they did refund some of the money. I think it was around $ 200. Still works out to be almost $ 30/hr per cleaner; and I still feel results in the time spent didn’t equal the work done didn’t equal the value. Now I know there are overhead costs and margins to be made but we won’t be the ones to pay that much… Would have loved to have found a regular local cleaning company, however Dust and Mop will not be it. ________ To be fair here, after they came I requested estimates from 5 other cleaners in the area. I stressed that it was important to take the time to truly clean all the dust, cobwebs, shower stains, etc. on truly everything like curtains, ceilings, blinds, trims, small items, etc. I also noted that, whether charging hourly or in total, the figure must reflect a very detailed, deep clean and we wanted their top estimate to complete the job. The highest came back at $ 450 total.
