During a recent trip to Orlando, I wanted to find a local ice cream establishment, a place we don’t have in Los Angeles, where I normally reside. A quick Unilocal search pointed us to Bruster’s real ice cream, and I quite enjoyed it. The kid’s sundae intrigued me on the menu because it had a unique clown cookie that came with it. I asked the clerk about it, and he brought out the cookie and made it do a happy clown dance to sell me on the virtues of it. His marketing tactics worked, and the sundae was great… although I do think the clerk was a little crazy. Maybe that’s what it takes to have a memorable sundae, a clown cookie served to you by an addled employee who’s been locked up in an icebox in Florida for too long. For what it’s worth, it was pouring rain, but there were a bunch of people who came out to Bruster’s in search of yummy ice cream, including local law enforcement, which is always a good sign. Continue to keep it REAL, Bruster’s… even if you are crazy.

I like that Bruster’s is close to my home but we don’t go often. I’m was reminded why on my last visit. Although the ice cream is good(it is hard to screw up ice cream) it is a bit expensive for just OK ice cream. I’ve been twice, the first flavor I sampled, cake batter, was too sweet even for me. This last time I had chocolate chip and it wasn’t sweet enough… can ice cream taste plain? The waffle cone was great though. No indoor seating and much to my dismay this last stop– no bathrooms. There is also a Rita’s right up the street for another ice cream fix but I’d trade them both for a good ol’ Twistee Treat!

When you’ve tired of the usual stones and slabs of cream head over to my new discovery Bruster’s Real Ice Cream. Bruster’s is a little stand along Rock Spring Rd. with plenty of flavors and mix ins to try in cake cones, cups, waffle cones or waffle bowls, Plus such tempting items as blasts, splits, and smoothies. Their ice cream is top notch, and I’m not a sweets kind of gal. Out of their 30 flavors I chose birthday cake and requested heath bar mixed into it with marshmellow and caramel on top. I was watching my weight on this particular day. All in a waffle bowl and I could not have asked for more. My treat was delicious, but what I really like about Bruster’s are the free ice cream treats they provide for dogs. Cute little bowls with a scoop of ice cream and a crunchy bone shaped treat on top. That’s what will keep me coming back for more with my best firend in tow. So don’t forget to bring your pooch when heading to Bruster’s. Seeing their little toques go to town on the creamy goodness tail wagging is a delight not to be missed.
