Not a general store around that can compare. Good prices, good selection of beers and goodies and delicious pizza. Nick’s review is spot on about the burn-outs and local characters– just adds to the charm if you ask me. They often stay open late to accommodate(like when you forgot the ice cream for your wife! Though do call ahead), and the customer service is all smiles. They also accept your returnables, though you have to count and bag ‘em yourself, sell hunting and fishing licenses, stamps(on occasion), and trash bags for the Union transfer station– so they’ve go that going on. It’s also the only place around until you get to Union to buy gasoline and diesel.

Hang out at Burkettville General for a little while and you will see some great local characters drinking, telling stories, doing burn-outs, running from the police and enjoying life. I got a hilarious t-shirt from them, and it says: BURKETTVILLE, ME A LITTLE drinking town, with a BIG hunting problem. Then there is a picture of a scoped hunting rifle. Instant country classic. Don’t be surprised if you hear songs like«Ticks» by Bill Praisely playing where he says, «I want to walk you through fields of wildflowers, I want to check you for ticks!»
