It used to be famous for 2 bulletholes in ceiling from Huey Newton’s bodyguard (black panthers) from when Angela Davis taught at UCSC in 1980s. Now apparently from other reviews a crankster haven. 10 years ago had thug watsonville gangbangers late night but cool daytime pensioners. I did enjoy jukebox and pool table hope it gets turned around.

As far as dive bars are concerned this is a classic. It has great bartenders, games, music, perfect to take some friends to, or stop by for a solo pint.

This place is super depressing, but there are really no other bars in Aptos unless you want to go hang out at the Windjammer and hang out with a bunch of felons. The Med is a place you don’t choose to go to, it’s more of a product of not having anywhere else to go. Shame because the area has lots of potential.

The Mediterranean is the coolest dive bar in aptos. The bartender Tommy makes exilent drinks and is very polite. Don’t forget the bouncer Sterling is also an Amazing bouncer.

A quaint little hideaway, with friendly bar service and a small town atmosphere I could grow to love. Happy to have found the place. For a first date it was perfect.

Oh The Med… This will always be my local hang out. It was way cooler before it changed hands to Bob. But even with new owners, it is still my local go to neighborhood joint. Also I miss the old bartender. However as long as they don’t try to make the keep making place «hip» it will always be my local favorite. Also grab the dice and try to win some free drinks. There is no cell service but just ask for their wifi pw.
Tip to the owner: this place is great because it’s a total dive so stop with comedy night and all the other bs you’re doing. Nobody will want to go if it changes.

The best bar in Aptos. My only complaint is that it can be a bit crowded, but that can happen when you run a good bar. Friendly atmosphere and decent prices. Conveniently located next to good Mexican food, which is also open late.

by far a one of the great bars in the area. great drinks and beer selection. a plus for hospitality. barentwnders are great and the bouncer sterling is always there to greet with a smile and of course the check of identification. great place!

Santa Cruz, CA
One of the best chill spots I go to! Different crowd than down town sc, great bartenders. Bob (the owner) and Kimberly (bartender) are the best. If you want pool challenges, darts, and friendly people, come here. They’ve got a great selection of music on the jukebox and its always a great time. And if they don’t have what you’re looking for they will always find something creative to make up for it.
Every employee of the Mediterranean that I have encountered has been very pleasant and swift. Good bar. 5 stars. Love these

Bob is amazing! He totally cleaned this place up… All I’d heard about The Med was what a sketchy dive bar it was, but he’s turned it into a super friendly locals bar and I love it. Would definitely recommend it for anyone who wants a good drink pre– or post-​beach, or pregaming before Manuel’s! Bob!

The Med is a fun bar with pro hand picked bartenders who do not leave you waiting for a drink. Joey or Stacey are two of the quickest bartenders in town, and enjoy what they do. Most Sundays there’s free Polish dogs, chili, and potato salad that Joey serves up. Its typically a good time to be had at The Mediterranean… However there is a bouncer that works nights named Sterling who I’ve observed kicking patrons out for laughing too loud or somerimes no particular reason at all. He’s a big boy and your stereotypical «Bully». Not sure why Bob the owner keeps him around. He puts a weird vibe out when he’s working and maybe thinks he’s the owner when he is. But aside from the unprofessional bouncer the Med is probably the best bar in Altos.

The med is a chill local bar spot. They have a good variety of drinks and they open pretty late. All of the bar tenders are super friendly and very helpful! They all have a great sense of humor and make the spot better!
The Med is now next door to Manuel’sand Hwy 1 Pizza. It is now across the street from the new Marianne’s ice cream! One of the only drinks they don’t have is a mojito, not too surprising though. Comedy night isn’t my favorite, a lot of guys who need to work on their jokes, and need to stop using the audience for their amusement. Besides that it’s a nice little joint for locals or vacationers.

The place is dark and smokey at times, and it definitely isn’t trying to impress anyone. It’s next door to one of the best restaurants in the Santa Cruz area (Manuel’s), and walking distance to my house, so I end up here pretty often.
This place caters almost exclusively to locals. I love ending my night here, pulling a stool up to the bar and buying a round of drinks for my friends. Drinks always seem to taste better after a day in the sun and when you still have some sand in your shoes.
The booze here is poured just the way I like it, strong. When you order a gin and tonic don’t be surprised if they forget to pour the tonic. If you feel like channeling your inner Bukowski this is the spot.

A typical dive bar. Nothing special. Came here for an after dinner drink the other night. Too many men in the place, well, not for me, but for my guy and his bro. lol They have pool tables and I think darts, dice for your dice games. Music. about it.

The new owner bob has totally cleaned this place up! And he doesn’t want any low life’s in there. I have been there with some gfs of mine and there was an odd guy annoying us and he kicked him out right away. Fun dive bar! They even have an xbox kinect to play with!!! All the bartenders are friendly and upbeat!

Nice dive bar. Cleaned up from what it used to be but still can be seedy sometimes later in the night like most bars. Bartender and bouncer were great and kicked one unruly guy out when I was there.
Great spot to grab a drink before Manuel’s.
One request, more microbrews on draft.

Under new ownership. Stopped in on the way to the beach. Joint was hopping lots of people happening atmosphere. We’ll be back.
