I was so amazed by the way that I was treated by the employees at the salon. From the moment I spoke to Holly, the appointment coordinator, I knew I was going to have a great experience. My haircut was wonderful, Gena did exactly what I wanted, looks great days later. All I can say is go!

New in town and this place had great reviews, I called and got in same day, awesome! No one mentioned they only take cash or checks and i didn’t see it posted on the website nor did I see a sign. I mentioned that my hair was getting longer and weighing down my curls. i love love my curls but their temperamental and will straighten a bit with certain products and styling techniques and I just wanted layers to get them back and no shorter than mid neck length and that I did not want the little hairs on the back of my neck to show. (i don’t really feel comfortable mentioning her by name) but my wet hair was pulled into a tight ponytail and cut it off!!! Curly hair gets shorter when it’s dry! I was given an A line cut with layers at the bottom, and with every snip she’d pull down and cut down, I mentioned what has worked best for cutting my hair in the past and I was told everyone has their own techniques. I get that and it doesn’t look horrible but my hair is now wavy (no cute ringlets, which i was told she thought looked childish on adults :/​) and very short in the back showing neck hair. Overall I may just be particular but I just didn’t care for this particular persons techniques. I came in earlier and she had just finished a cut that looked great! When I was in the chair another person came in saying she wasn’t happy with her cut because it wasn’t right for her but still looked nice so, all in all I can live with it but this deserves a mention. Also I may end up liking it enough and will probably go back and just make sure layers are all in before length is taken so short.

Loved my experience at this salon. First of all, it’s in a nice location – there’s a parking lot which you don’t always get in Arcata, and the salon itself is cute.
It is probably not likely you will be able to get an appointment the same day you call, but I got lucky and they were able to fit me in. I met Gena, and she did a great job. I told her how frustrated I was with my hair style (I’m growing it out and was at an awkward in-​between phase), and I told her all the things I didn’t like – I wasn’t really sure how to fix it, but somehow she managed to make it look 100 times better without taking off all my length/​progress. My fringe frames my face in a more flattering way, and my layers give my hair a much better style than before.
I didn’t used to take very good care of my hair, but now that I’m trying to restore my hair I know Eufora is excellent, and this salon is loaded with Eufora products. As Gena was combing my hair the comb would stop where my damaged, lightened hair began. She didn’t make any rude comments or blame me for using too much heat when styling, not using more product, etc. She acknowledged it was damaged (after I brought it up), and gave me some pointers plus positive affirmations for all my efforts to restore it.
After this haircut, I left feeling happy and confident which I believe is the most important part of any salon visit. And it was a great price. So overall, a pretty epic experience.

A great, friendly salon. Leslie cut my hair and it’s wonderful. I asked for more layers, and she cut them free of charge! I found her to be caring, thoughtful and talented. Everyone who works here seems to be happy and cheerful. I also like the fact that they use all natural hair care products.

Found my new salon! Thank you Leslie Ostrom for a great cut and color. I love the Eufora products. They are all aloe based and work great on my curly hair. It’s been awhile since baby no. 2 and I was starting to feel like crazy mom! Left feeling like a new woman aka the old me!! The salon is really sweet. Everyone there is super nice and professional. Leslie really took her time to explain everything and do a really thorough job. So grateful!

I just got my hair cut by Clarissa and would absolutely go back! I have curly hair and she did an excellent job. I had her copy my previous cut from some photos and I love what she did with my hair. She was extremely knowledgeable about my hair type and all of the products she was using.

I referred my mother to Kalos since my wife and daughter go there. That was a mistake. My mother got her hair cut and colored there. The haircut was $ 42, and the coloring was $ 100. My mother is elderly and lives on a fixed SSI income. She was not aware the cost would be so high and was upset. I tried to be a good son and spoke with the owner. I explained the situation and asked if she could give a senior discount, or if it had any weight that my other family members were loyal clients. Her answer was no. No rebate, no senior discount, no referral discount, no coupon for the next visit, nothing, zero. Any owner that inflexible with their customers alienates me on principle alone. My mom will not be returning, and I have suggested the rest of my family to do the same.

The lady that did my hair was obviously new & the next time I come in I plan on requesting that someone else works on me. That being said she still did a good job on my hair color & I walked out happy. Everyone there were incredibly friendly. I was served coffee & tea throughout my visit. They all made me feel very pampered. It was a great experience & I’m looking forward to my greys growing back in just so I’ll have a reason to come back!

As a male, I don’t like getting my eyebrows waxed more than I have to. Its usually painful and theres red patches on both my eyebrows after.
None of that happened at Kalos. They were gentle, very quick, and shaped my eyebrows while still making them look natural. It costs a bit more than back in my hometown, but I’ll gladly pay a few extra bucks if it means no pain. Definitely returning for when my wooly caterpillar eyebrows grow back.

Only just had my haircut done tonight and I am so pleased with how it turned out. Leslie was my stylist and was very methodical and walked me through every thing that she planned to do with my hair. It made me feel very confident with my decision to get my hair done at Kalos, especially since it was my first time having to find a new salon since moving North. It was a very cozy and relaxing atmosphere, with complimentary beverages. On top of that, the cost was so affordable. I’ve been charged way more at my past salon for nowhere near the same treatment and attentiveness that I received here tonight. I will surely be back when I need another cut.

Love Gena, does a fabulous job!!! All the girls are sweet and very welcoming!!! I’ve been getting my hair done here for years. It’s clean and has a very happy vibe. I’ve never been this happy with my hair anywhere else. I highly recommend this place :)

Best flat top that I have had in a long time, staff was so friendly and helpfully, they made you feel like family.

Right when I walked in I was greeted and offered tea or coffee. They even brewed a fresh pot of coffee for me! I had waist-​long hair and was itching for a change. I wanted shoulder length hair, but every time I cut it this short, it looks like a puff ball due to my thick, wavy hair. I decided to go for it again because I heard such great things about this place. Gena was so patient in thinning my hair and listening to what I wanted. She also offered her opinion in a non-​pushy kind of way. The first time I got a substantial haircut and liked everything about it! The price was right for such a attention to detail and time.

Had a great cut here yesterday w Gena. She wasn’t pushy and annoying like most other hairdressers I’ve been to. I was offered coffee and tea and my water glass was kept full. I loved the hair products they used (all natural and aromatheraputic) and the haircut and blowout look great!

I am very happy with this salon. Gena is a wonderful stylist and does great with curly hair. She is very patient, with a warm friendly demeanor. They are definitely interested in pleasing the client and individual needs. Great products as well.

I don’t get my hair cut often, but when I do it has to be by Cate at Kalos.

Kalos was absolutely worth every penny. I went in today for a very specific haircut, I needed not only a trim and layering, but I wanted a undercut on the side of my hair, all the way down to a buzzcut. Clarissa was excellent at taking my rough ideas for how I wanted it to look and making my hair look perfect. I love love love my hairstyle and Clarissa was very good at explaining what she would recommend, what the effects of different cuts would be, and giving suggestions for maintenance afterward.
I wish I could submit a picture I love this cut so much, ⁵⁄₅ stars for Kalos.
A sidenote, the receptionist was the bomb at getting me in for an appointment around my awful unreliable retail schedule.

The last time I had a haircut I went to Bloom for the Divacut and the hairdresser cut my ends with a razor and did not completely cut out a previous a-​line haircut that I had asked.
Since my hair is curly and grows very slowly, I was skeptical to check out any other salons in the area. I did not have my haircut for over a year and was finally fed up with it.
I found Clairissa through Unilocal reviews and just had her cut my hair this morning. I was pleasantly surprised.
She was very patient and listened to everything that I had to say. She asked what I didn’t like about my previous haircuts and what my long term goals are with my hair.
Before she cut different areas she’d let me know what she was doing — ie making layers X length or cutting off X ends, which was great. It meant that I had a say in my haircut while it was being done! I’ve never had a hairstylist that was sensitive to my opinions.
She also created new fringe — slight bettie bangs, and styled my hair super cute.
My hair looks 1000X healthier and I know that it will look great when I style it curly.
I also had my eyebrows waxed. She walked me through what she was thinking and suggested growing them out in certain parts. The wax was very gentle and I was not red afterwards.
She did not push any products on me — which I really respect.
I will definitely be back for more waxing, and trims!

Unilocal saves the day (or, more accurately, my hair) once again. After a terrible haircut that left me growing into a mullet, I considering not getting my hair cut again until I move. But since I won’t be moving for at least three years, and the mullet was growing more pronounced after just three months, I needed to take action.
Enter Unilocal.I found Kalos and made an appointment. I was scheduled with Clarissa, and she was delightful. She’s a sweet, friendly woman as well as a good stylist. She listened to my concerns, and made some recommendations. She didn’t push her opinions and let me make the ultimate decision on what to do with my hair. But I trusted her expertise, and I’m glad I did. I’ve even been complimented by strangers on my new haircut!
I also had my eyebrows waxed while I was there. Again, Clarissa talked to me about the style I wanted (she suggested I leave them fuller instead of going super-​thin) before she did her work. It was pretty gentle, too. I had no redness afterward.
Best of all, the price was incredibly reasonable. I think my total for all services was about $ 50 – awesome. But do note that they only take cash or check. I had to run to the bank afterward and return to pay for my services. Luckily, they are understanding (and trusting) about that.
