Mondays $ 5.99 all you can eat special. Best fried chicken I’ve had In a long time. Solid salad bar and corn green beans mashed potatoes and gravy were very good.

I can’t speak for the quality of the menu items. I can however let you know the lunch buffet is far from something I would ever try again. The corn was excellent, but I don’t know if you really can screw that up. Everything else I tried was not good. Chicken seemed like it had been sitting there awhile, mashed potatoes/gravy was awful. I drowned them with salt and pepper just to try and get them down to fight off my hunger. There were noodles also that had no taste whatsoever, There was one other table dining while I was in there. The couple seated there also ordered the buffet. I overheard there conversation of what one of the buffet items were. I knew what it was because our waitress told us that it was salisbury steak. They thought it wasn’t good and was a mystery meat. I’d have been better off driving a few more miles and getting a fast food burger than to eat here. I’ve heard that quite a few elderly people dine here. The only thing I can come up with is maybe you loose sense of taste with old. On a good note our waitress was very polite, prompt on getting us drinks and refills, and overall did her job very well.

Our visit to this restaurant was a huge mistake! The owner rudely rushed us in the door and seated us. The restaurant only had two other customers. With the lack of people there, it is understandable, but the buffet looked as it had been sitting there for days. Everyone in our group opted to order from the menu for this reason. Everyone but myself ordered chicken strips, and thought that was a safe bet. I ordered the roast beef. Every single thing we got from here tasted funny including the drinks. The chicken strips were dry and hard. The roast beef was tough. The mashed potatoes were homemade but bland, and again tasted peculiar. We will not be visiting this place again. There was one waitress there, who was very nice. That’s the only good thing I can say about Das Essen Haus.

This place used to be the place to go for Comfort food. There are very few cars there anymore. We went at 7:30 last night, they close at 8 on Friday nights according the the sign by the door but the doors were already locked. I guess they were tired of waiting for customers and opted to close early.

This place is in the middle of nowhere for starters so you probably are a local if you dine here. I’m not and was in the area visiting family and picked the spot at random because it had a cool name. The décor is quaint, but sadly the food wasn’t. Lots of sandwiches, a buffet and all the basics a small town place would have sans alcohol. The lunch buffet was horrid – bland over-cooked food that made Gordon Foods seem goumet. Rubber-like beef and dry over-cooked ‘fried’ chicken. I ordered turkey, homemade noodles and potato salad off the menu – the turkey was fine, the noodles were overcooked and mushy but the homemade potato salad was great. Gravy smothered everything of course. The waitress was not very friendly – talking to the owner about family life the entire time we were there, never checked back to refill water glasses of coffee and was cold as ice(but friendly to another table of ‘regulars’. Surreal in the respect the restaurant was planning an Ann Arbor station(WUOM-FM) in the background and we were at least 80 miles from the city. If you like new adventures and vanishing Americana and have low expectations, this place will be fine if you want to avoid a chain or diner type spot. But if you think quaint and small town is going to mean home cooking like Mom used to make, you aren’t going to get it. Kudos for being around 40 years though. Avoid unless you are a local. Three stars only for the experience of getting to visit a disappearing piece of America. One star to two for the food.

Been eating here for over a decade and the food has remained consistently good. I usually order the buffet which in addition to fried chicken has Salisbury steak(at lunch time). One member of our party always orders off the menu, ordering both sandwiches or breakfast items and those items have also been consistently good. The service is good(usually) and the prices reasonable. It’s a great alternative to The Barn at Sauder’s nearby. The food is better and you don’t get the tour buses or long wait.

The best fried chicken! Amish style, homemade fried chicken, yum! You can order off the menu, or eat at the buffet. Their buffet is great, it changes from day to day, but usually has fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn fritters, soup, salad bar, macaroni salad, potato salad, pea salad, etc. It also has a few desserts, but rarely has any chocolate(the only downside). Very reasonable prices and friendly services. I know people who drive up to Frankenmuth for Amish chicken, but this place is just as good!
