Watching an artist spin wet clay into a useful form (in this case a perfectly proportioned pitcher) by hand is magical, but when the finished piece is lifted off the pottery wheel and is flawless you have to stand back in admiration! That is the quality of work you can expect to see in clay lamp bases, mugs, plates and serving pieces, wall sculptures, etc. Nothing but perfection emerges from his studio. Often there’s a unique texture or glaze that sets a piece apart, demonstrating the artist’s sensitivity to color and form. It is easy to imagine this pottery finding its way into warm casual spaces that will be enhanced by their natural, earthy tones. Alan Burslem is a master of his craft.
