Ego Salon

I ended up having to wait a little bit after I arrived, but Chanell was very apologetic and the waiting area was clean and comfortable. I was there for a few hours, and I noticed that lots of regulars were greeted by name and were very enthusiastic about the salon. The staff seemed to enjoy each other’s company, which is refreshing. Everyone seemed to work together to make things run smoothly. Chanell asked me lots of questions about my hair, but didn’t bother me with constant small talk (which I hate). My hair looks great and it was a pleasant experience — they had munchkins out for customers and a variety of magazines. I also observed a customer come back and complain that her hair wasn’t blonde enough. Jon was very cordial to her — he explained the science of hair dye a little bit, but said he would be happy to make an adjustment for her. I plan to return to Ego.

I went to get a keratin treatment today. Everyone who works there is very friendly and super nice so it sucks I had so many issues with my experience. While washing my hair, water was literally flying all over the place. At one point, the stylist sprayed water right in my face and ruined my make up. It was an accident so I couldn’t get mad. I was concerned because the stylist who was doing my treatment didn’t know much about what shampoo to use, how to apply the keratin, etc. until another stylist (who was impressively more knowledgable) would come over and teach him while he was doing my hair. It felt like they used me as «practice» for him to learn how to do the treatment. another stylist had to come and correct him a couple times too. Three times while he was doing my hair, my hair got pulled out from my scalp. My stylist also forgot to offer me a beverage and magazines until someone reminded him. I had bought a living social deal that came with complimentary champagne (which I wasn’t given) so it was a little disappointing because that was one of the reasons I bought the deal. I also was not told anything about the post treatment about not washing my hair or using specific shampoos– luckily I googled it before I took a shower. During payment, I was nice enough to refund my living social so that the salon could make more profit and I left a good tip but it was just sad I didn’t feel like I got the treatment I deserved. The salon is super cute and the other stylists did amazing jobs on their other clients and my hair turned out okay so I’m pretty sure this salon does do great work but I just wished I had spoken up or said something so they would understand how I felt during my experience there.

Such a friendly and clean environment! I love the staff! I had Tina and she was amazing! So down to earth and sweet. She also did a fabulous job on my hair! I will def be coming back!

I am so grateful to have found this salon!!! I am so impressed with the art they have made happen on my hair – yes –art! I went from dark hair to blonde-​which is always a process and in the past when Ive tried it with other stylist Ive either had to deal with my hair pulling red and brassy – or my hair falling out — -This has not happened at all and I am beyond pleased! I have lived in Los Angeles and New York and have had many high priced salons recommended to me and again have not had positive experiences – until now!!! This is they type of place and group of people who are kind and honest and willing to listen and accommodate their clients. I highly recommend Ego Salon in Ardmore. In addition to their work – they are great to be around. It is not too noisy-​or a place where you might feel intimidated at all — super super super place — !!! oh and dont let the name of the salon «fool» its actually ironic because there is no «ego» in the negative sense here at all!!! Chanell who is the owner is as sweet as can be as well as the other stylists!!! So impressed and so happy with the results!

I have been here twice. Love it! Wonderful people. John is awesome. Love my hair. I need an appointment soon! I’m looking a little ragged.

I love how flexible the staff is there. I’ve gotten at least four haircuts at Ego Salon in the past year. Every time I’ve called at most 12 hours before and they’ve fit me into the schedule and done a great job. I’ve actually had my hair cut by three different stylists and each time been satisfied.

Amazing!!! I went in with a butchered haircut from another salon and Jon Broscoe was able to totally transform my hair. He not only fixed it — he made it look good! Not to mention the rest of the super friendly stylists. They were able to accommodate me at the very last minute, and were happy to help me fix my disaster haircut. Ego turned my nightmare around and made it a very pleasant experience. I would absolutely recommend Ego to everyone, and I will 100% be back. Thank you!

This is a UNISEX salon so don’t let the title fool you people! I discovered this lil gem only about 2 months ago. My first stylist was Bobbie and she was awesome! I needed a regular salon (had just moved from cc) and wanted highlights bad. I was very nervous as I have a very funny texture of AA hair and didn’t think the color or the blow dry/​curl would come out right… boy was I wrong. Bobbie proved to be so good and I loved my hair! Then after fourth of July, I was in desperate need of a trim and wash/​curl again. I called but Bobbie was out of town! «Ugh oh» I thought to myself… who’s gonna do my hair if it isn’t Bobbie? Well a stylist named Vicki was available. I was nervous yet again… I was thinking that Bobbie was the only one that could handle this mess. Wrong again! Vicki too was the bomb! Ladies, I have been back ever since for many blow dries/​curls plus a keratin treatment (which I was told horrible things about)! I recommend getting a keratin treatment if you have frizzy, unevenly textures or over-​processed hair like mine. Do not waste your time and money going to the dominicans. Its the same price at Ego so go here instead and they use salon products and supplies. Going to the dominicans hurt my hair and that’s why I needed the treatment. It has made it fuller, slicker and healthier! Do not trust what others out there are saying and they use a formaldehyde free one there. The only thing it smells like is comparable to how finger nail polish may smell up close but that’s it, no horror stories about eyes watering and hair coming out here. Please give them a try they are awesome. Bobbie and Vicki are so skilled (as I’m sure the others are too just haven’t tried them yet)! ;)

Great place for a hair cut! Although I’ve been going here for years, I tend to just get the basic cut, so I can’t really say anything about much beyond that. Very reasonably priced, good hours, great staff members, and a laid back atmosphere. I’ve had my hair cut by Chanell, John and Bobbie and they’ve all done great jobs. They offer a full line of services for both men and women, and I can’t imagine they’re anything but great on all of them.
Easy access from the Ardmore train station, and plenty of parking on the street and in the big municipal lot behind the building.
I make the same observation as another reviewer below towards the one star review: if you hate the place so much, why did you go there for a year?

This place was already top-​notch, and now they’ve added scalp massage to the standard service. Plus, Ego has some great specials on Foursquare (can I say that on Unilocal?).
Chanell and the staff are always super friendly and welcoming. She consistently does an excellent job with the cuts. The service is fast, prices are very reasonable for the level of service, and like another reviewer mentioned, parking is usually a breeze (in front or the big lot behind it – make a right at Ardmore Ave and go past the Chinese restaurant).
About that one-​star review … If I have a bad experience at a place, I don’t go back 3 more times. Seems like a personal grudge to me, but all I can speak to is my own experiences, which have been excellent on 10 – 11 visits by now.
My new plan is to follow up haircuts here with a trip over to Tired Hands, the mighty fine brewpub up the street. What a combo. Cheers, Ardmore!

Been a customer here for a long time, and both my sons go as well.
We do not require anything fancy or sophisticated, so I can’t speak to those types of services… but Chanell is delightful, pleasant, and gives a great haircut. the atmosphere is also pleasant, and I usually end up scoring a parking spot right in front.

I honestly wish I could give this place 0 stars but there is not an option for that. Nevertheless I had posted a review here before and it was deleted I guess I was to brutally honest. But I only speak what is the TRUTH. I went to this salon from July 2010-​June2011. My stylist that’s what she calls herself but I can think of other names to call her was Chanell. I found this salon actually by accident being as I use to work in Ardmore. One day I was walking past there and I saw her in there and decided to walk in. Worst mistake I have EVER made. I had very long beautiful hair going into this salon. I basically wanted a wash, blowdry and curl. Simple enough right? Well it took Chanell 2 hours just to blow dry my hair. My hair is very curly but NO ONE has ever taken that long to blow dry my hair but Chanell I mean it was ridiculous. I then decided to just wear my hair naturally in it’s curly state. I just couldn’t sit through the blow drying anymore with her. While going to Chanell I decided to get hair color. Another HUGE I mean HUGE mistake. The first time Chanell did the color she used the salon’s color Redken and it didn’t take that well to my hair. The next time I took my own color in and that didn’t take either. Finally the 3^rd time Chanell went to Cosmo Prof in Ardmore and bought some color to put in my hair some blonde color. Well that was a mistake the color ruined my hair. My hair fell out in clumps from the color. Chanell had no idea how to fix this when I even asked her to cut my hair she wouldn’t do this. I had to go to another salon to have my hair fixed. Beware of this salon and Chanell she is the owner now. If you have a problem with your hair she will not help you she will turn on you and make it seem like it is your fault.
