I have always been interested in the healing arts — meditation, tai chi, yoga. However, I would not be identified on any street as a «Yoga Mom». I’ve found most studios in the area a little too overwhelming, too full of skinny devotees who are fanatically enthusiastic and at the same time in dire need of a cookie. I lovingly think of these people as «Yoga-nuts.» I found Hummingbird almost accidentally when a friend posted about their massage services. Hm, hadn’t heard of this place. Oooh! They have Sunday morning meditation! Drop in! So I donned my baggy sweats, put on my most comfortable tie-dye shirt and headed down there to check it out, slightly nervous about the whole yoga-nut crowd. Hummingbird is lovely, a comfortable, serene space and Linda is as down to earth as it gets. She is not perfect, and she is one with her not perfectness, and she is happy to have you on the journey with her. Meditation with her is peaceful and enriching. I find myself looking forward to getting up on Sunday mornings for my hour of tranquility. Intimidated by the Yoga-Nut culture? Looking for a place not full of Lululemon and VitaminWater? Head to Hummingbird. Get a massage. Meditate. Practice yoga in a truly relaxed, real environment. A wonderful addition to Ardmore.
