I strongly disagree that Dr. Ahn is current on the latest procedures. Perhaps, for something standard such as stones or infections. But, I have a bladder disease which goes in and out of remission. Out of remission after 12 years, I’m in miserable agonizing pain, and all she did was run tests to make sure it wasn’t something else. I already knew it wasn’t something else, but you never know, so I went along with it. After that, I simply got a call that my tests were clear. As in no cancer. I didn’t suspect I had cancer. I was not symptomatic whatsoever of having tumors or cancer. My Interstitial Cystitis was out of remission with a vengeance and I needed help. I asked her about pelvic floor therapy; she said, «No, I don’t do that». I asked for a bladder coating, «No, I don’t do that.» I asked for a cystoscopy to see the inside of the bladder and what kind of shape it was in. «No, I’m not doing that.» I asked for every possible avenue of potential comfort, and she pretty much said«No». Then what DO you do? She would not even give me anything for pain. I did not want a script for pain. Just something for when I can’t bear it. 3 pills would have been fine. «No, I’m not doing that.» My primary Doc called something in for me. So, she’s great at ordering every test known to man, but there was ZERO course of action or follow up. I went to Loyola and got the in-depth care I needed. They got down to the nitty gritty. It took a little while, but they got me under control, including pelvic floor physical therapy, which I had asked for. It was a life-saver. Other techniques also, that Dr. Ahn seemed clueless about. I couldn’t believe that I was in excruciating pain 24⁄7 and a Dr. simply cut me off, because a big machine in a hospital didn’t show a mass of some kind. There are no masses or tumors with IC, and she knows that.

I started seeing Dr. Ahn the summer of 2006 when I needed to follow up with from an Emergency Room visit. She treated me for kidney stones. She was assigned to my husband’s case in the winter of 2009. He was diagnosed with kidney & bladder cancer. She recommended a wonderfully skilled surgeon. She has since treated me for kidney stones. I trust her enough to recommend her empathetic, professional demeanor to my closest friends. They rave about her as Please update her contact information: just saw her in December 2014.

Dr Helen Ahn is a great urologist. Young, current on all the latest procedures, she makes a difficult situation bearable. She treated my 85 yr old Alzheimers mom and me after I had cancer surgery. If you have any urinary tract or bladder problems don’t wait– there are great treatments out there and Dr Ahn will help you. If its an emergency tell the desk and they will squeeze you in.
