I’ve been here a number of times to supply the little container garden out on my balcony. The staff are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, but I get the impression that they may run a little short-staffed, so you may need to ask for help rather than wait for someone to come to you. It’s not a problem, though — they’re pretty easy to find, and are always willing to help. Don’t be afraid to ask questions — I guarantee you that I have asked WAY more idiotic questions of these folks and have been answered with generosity and enthusiasm. It’s a little pricey, but worth it for the healthy, quality plants you’ll come away with, and the expertise of the staff. I’ve never bought a plant from here that didn’t make it. This place is also quite large — the flowers and other small plants are inside, but they have a large area or back for trees, bushes, and ground cover, and a decent-sized indoor area for the nicer pots, tools, and seeds. The selection is extensive, and they are generally grouped by type of plant — there’s a section for tropicals, ground cover, succulents, edibles, roses, etc. If you can’t find something, just ask. It’s a big place — there’s no shame in not being able to find something yourself. I’m partial to the edibles, myself, which usually start to disappear around this time of year(April) and don’t show up again until 2nd planting in summer. They also have a bunch of great pre-assembled container gardens, hanging baskets, succulent gardens, and so forth, in case you’re not in a DIY mood and would rather just purchase and water.

No assistance offered or greeting given by the two people behind the counter or the man walking around the garden center, and i could see little rhyme or reason to the arrangement of the plants. Because I was in a hurry I never did find out if they had the succulent I came in for(string of pearls), but the plants did all around look healthy, which must account for the high price tag on the tiny pot sizes($ 3 for 2inch high kalanchoe!). 3 stars for health of plants, terrible customer service meant I didn’t find a healthy plant for my home.

I love gardens. I love plants. I love flowers and ferns and herbs and trees. I’m so loving right now! Calloway’s is a bit expensive, I’ll give you that. You can find similar plants, gardening tools, pottery, seeds, and outdoor décor for cheaper at Home Depot, Wal-Mart, or Lowes. But the extra nice thing about Calloway’s is that it’s a dedicated nursery, and when you talk to their staff it shows. My boyfriend and I had researched a few unique plants that we’re looking to grow indoors, and when we mentioned them to the Calloway’s staff-member, she knew exactly what we were looking for, where they were, whether they were in season or not, whether or not they’re toxic to animals, when they would be in season if they weren’t, and how to tend them. She also gave us additional suggestions for great indoor planting. She knew all this info about 5 specific plants, and you could just tell she knew that much about their whole nursery. It’s awesome to have access to that kind of knowledge in a person! We ended up leaving with a Christmas cactus that was 50% off now that the holidays are over, but it’ll be lovely all year, even if it’s blooms are still to fade. This Calloway’s has excellent customer service and a beautiful nursery — I love to simply wander around. Come here for extra care!
