Cliff’s Auto Repair

I have a high mileage Chevy Tahoe. I serviced it at Firestone for years; a bit overpriced but at least they are dependable and honest… so I thought.
About 6 months ago my car completely died and I need to replace the main computer system (ECM). Firestone did the work and handed the car back over. For the next several months the car drove terrible. Always issues and always a check engine light. I continued to take it into Firestone and they would tell me all of the stuff it needed. New this, new that…$ 150 to $ 250 a pop. This culminated when the car died on Christmas evening in the middle of a cross-​state drive to my in laws. Nice.
After 6 months I decided I needed a second opinion. I was referred to Cliff as the «go to» mechanic in Arlington if you an honest expert assessment. Cliff called me after a couple of hours and asked if I had the computer replaced recently. I explained that yes, Firestone has done it. He said they put the wrong software on my computer. They had programmed my car as if it were flex fuel model… my car is not flex fuel. Everything that was going wrong was related to the fact that my car’s brain was «confused» because of the bad software install.
I took it back to Firestone, and explained they had put in the wrong software. The guy gave me some condescending speech about how that’s pretty much impossible, they know what software goes on what car, and it would cost me $ 80 just for them to look at it again. Once again, I explained that I had a real mechanic look at the car and we knew exactly what was wrong. He dismissed my comments again and said they would look at it for $ 80 and come to their own conclusions.
Later that day he called back and said «Your mechanic was wrong… the computer is saying your car needs a new flex fuel filter». To which I replied «I DON’T HAVE A FLEX FUEL MODEL… I already explained this to you… you put the wrong software on my car». Two hours later he called back…“we put the wrong software on your car… nothing is wrong with it… we reloaded the correct software and everything is back to normal”.
In fairness, Firestone didn’t charge me anything for the final visit. That said, they also never reimbursed me for the fixes it never needed in the first place and they certainly didn’t pick me up in East Texas on Christmas evening when I was on the side of the road with bad software and car load of presents. Had I continued to listen to them I would be the hole at least another $ 500 and my car would still be running like crap.
THANK YOU CLIFF… I finally have a good, honest mechanic!

We were referred to Cliff by a friend for a transmission repair. He gave us a quote that was very competitive in price, but was a higher quality transmission with a fantastic warranty. He beat his repair time estimate, and stuck to his original cost estimate. There is no price creep with this guy, he is a honest straight forward guy. After he fixed our car transmission I took my suburban in a told him it needed brakes, I had replaced the front rotors and pads about 6 months before but didn’t mention it. He called said all it needed was back shoes and drums, it’s ready come get it. Beat Firestone by 600 bucks. He has since fixed two other cars for our family, the most recent my niece who had electrical problems with her car. They had it towed in, he found a corroded connector, cleaned it, fixed the car and charged her $ 20. Go find that somewhere else, not going to happen. Honest and friendly folks. We will never take a vehicle anywhere else.

I can always count on Cliff to do a great job at a great price! He’s a gem!
