Well, that was weird. First, the good: The food was actually really tasty. We had egg rolls, Singapore rice noodles, and General Tso’s chicken. Everything was piping hot and flavorful. Really pretty great food. The strange: The place just seems like it hasn’t changed since it opened 40 years ago– or at least it looks like it opened at least that long ago. Pink(or used to be) carpet, old kitchy art, every piece of which was hanging crooked, and stuff piled, jammed, or stacked on pretty much every surface but the dining tables. The bad: It’s dirty in there. Everything is cobwebby and just not clean. My water glass had some kind of glob hanging on it, the soy sauce bottle looked like it had never been washed, just refilled over and over, and our waiter had a runny nose and was in DESPERATE need of a tissue. Gross.

Friendly family service and delicious food. Each dish individually crafted from fresh ingredients. Results are amazing, but don’t be in a hurry. This perfection takes time.

So have been sitting waiting for order for over 20 minutes, served warm water even after ordering beverages, soup was thick, pasty, salty, couldn’t tell what it was suppose to be. Food literally sucks would not feed it to my dog. Staff fighting in backroom.

I love fresh wheat free new dishes. Brown rice and hand dipped gluten free. Fresh egg rolls and pot stickers. Yummy

Holy buckets! Maybe seeing that the place was nearly empty on a Friday night should have been a warning but no, we stayed anyway… After waiting over an hour, one of our two appetizers arrived. Plates are for lesser mortals as was the hot tea we initially ordered. The spicy sauce for the pot stickers was the highlight of the meal. Forty minutes later, our spring rolls arrived; cold in the middle and dripping oil on the outside. The main course arrived one at time with the third person served about ten minutes later. I had Kung Pow Chicken but was only able to eat a few bites. Completely bland. The rice was hard; like the kind of left over scum you scrape off the bottom of your rice cooker.

I wasn’t sure what to expect after reading some of the reviews, but I went with my eyes open and my stomach hungry. The décor in this restaurant is unique, not weird… I see a family’s life on display. Take a moment and really look at their stories… quite interesting!!! I ordered the hot & sour soup… it arrived steaming hot. The contents… the substance of the soup was quite different than typical hot & sour soup… plenty of veggies… and very tasty. My main entrée, and why I came here to being with, was salt & pepper prawns. It took some time, and when it arrived it was piping hot to boot. Its appearance was not anything I was expecting… prawns were actually smaller shrimp, but tasty. The traditional methods for preparing this dish is with a veggy base… onions, bell pepper, jalapeño peppers… this arrived with some onions and broccolli all deep fried together(perhaps in the wok)…didnt look appealing and was greasy. Service was okay. All said, my meal was tasty and I will go back.

This restaurant has been a family favorite for years, it has been a few years since I have been there and am happy to say the food is still amazing. This is a small family establishment with fresh food and some of the best egg foo young I have ever tasted. I also recommend the chicken chow mein… home made noodles!

This was one of the weirdest dining experiences I have ever had. A dirty fish tank sits among an abundance of fake plants. The carpet is old, but clean and everything looks like it is probably violating some kind of health department code. We started with crunchy crab puffs(crab rangoon) and waters as we weren’t sure we would be staying. We were the only ones in the small dinning room at the time, and mixed with the décor we figured that was probably a sign that we would be eating elsewhere for a main course. The crab puffs were freshly homemade, with huge chunks of real crab and homemade sweet and sour sauce served on the side. They also added some multicolored chips that can only really be described as pork rinds for our 2 year old. The woman who took our order came back and asked what we were having a main course. I asked if she could tell us the special, as I didn’t recall what the sign outside had said. When I told her I would like the special, she grabbed our menus and hurried to the kitchen without taking my husband’s order. We were left confused, and wondering if the special was for two people. Our food came out about 10 minutes later, and was certainly not the huge heaping piles of food we have gotten so accustomed to in America. It looked to be enough for one person. However, with the appetizer from earlier, we ended up being comfortably full and finishing all of the food. Despite the brief wait time, everything was freshly made and nothing tasted frozen. Unlike other reviews, we did not receive a pile of grease. I am a visual person with food, as I am sure a lot of people are, and getting over the idea flash frozen Chinese food normally served took me a bit, but the taste and quality were completely worth it. If you find yourself in downtown Arlington and looking for some Chinese food, I recommend stopping in. Don’t let the décor fool you, this is a place you’ll want to try.

Owners are very nice. But so expensive! We ordered general tsos and what I thought would be stir fried rice noodles. No rice included with the general tsos. $ 26.00. Including tip we paid 30 bucks. The food was not worth it. I’m only giving them 2 stars because she said she made the tofu and it was pretty good. Never again. Also it looked kind of dirty and really old in there.

Authentic Chinese comes to mind ~ extremely nice owner, also the cook, she was so friendly, she was making homemade noodles when we got there, had those in the Chicken Chow Mein, we started off with Crab Puffs and Hum Bow, the Crab Puffs were delicious, they had real crab meat, lumped not imitation, with a yummy sauce I had never had the Puffs or sauce anywhere else, the Hum Bow was very flavorful. Had the #1 Combo ~ Pork Fried Rice(very flavorful, best I’ve had) Almond Chicken, nice white meat chicken, it was good, not the best I’ve had but very yummy, THE Chicken Chow Mein was the best I’ve ever had, the homemade noodles were a great touch, the flavor was again, very yummy, Sweet and Sour Pork as well, honestly I didn’t have too much of it, I was so dang full! It had a different sauce than I have ever had on it too, it was the same lemon type sauce that was on the Crab Puffs, the few bites were very good too ~ I forgot the soup at the beginning, Egg Flower, it was my second favorite, it did have a great flavor, I like one from another place we go as much or a bit more. THE end was what seemed like a homemade Fortune Cookie, crisp! LOVETHAT! She had made some Almond cookies and shared them with us also. The building is very old, I didn’t think it was too dirty, just old. It is what it is in that the décor is older, it felt like we were at her home eating, I felt at home in the way she was so sweet. I felt like I traveled to her home and she welcomed us with open arms.

I really like the owners of this restaurant, they are always very nice. The food used to be excellent here, but the last few times I have ordered from them, it’s been just ok. They do deliver, but you can expect it to take at least an hour for the food to get to you. Prices are ok, not too expensive, but not cheap.

Brittany, I should have listened to you. Gross and disgusting are definitely the correct adjectives. Everything oozed of grease. Plus their hot tea was not even hot! One main dish was served first, then the appetizer. We left before they served the other main dish and both soups. Bad food, bad service, don’t bother!

My family and I have been going here for 20+ years. Even though I now live far away I still make it back for the best Chinese food ever! The food is home cooked and very authentic and the restaurant itself is family run. True this place is a little run down and it’s a long wait for food but it’s all worth it!(I suggest the combo family dinners)

Ive been here a couple times, today, and once five years ago. I can agree with most points from most reviews, it is an odd restaurant. The owners are great people and cook traditional Chinese food. I was amazed that she remembered me from my one other visit five years ago, she truly is a very nice lady. I will most assuredly return for the food and kindness.

I have been coming to Hong Kong Restaurant for the past 20 years and have never left with out being satisfied. The proportions are huge, the food is authentic and made from scratch, the service is friendly and quick. The owner often offers my daughter a special treat after dinner at no charge. They remember what our favorites are on the menu. I have yet to find better tasting Chinese Food. I couldn’t agree more with the review written by Adrian M and Kate E. The building is old and hasn’t been renovated but don’t judge a book by its cover. It has been owned and operated by a small family for the past 25+ years. Try the food and the appearance wont matter. My personal favorites include the almond fried chicken, sweet and sour pork and fried rice. I gave the restaurant four stars based upon the amazing authentic dishes and friendly service.

So far, good! She brought water right away and was super sweet. Definitely not lacking for good service. Speedy and tasty. The soup left something to be desired, but everything else is fantastic!!! We will certainly be back. Don’t judge this book by it’s cover… Tasty, authentic Chinese Cuisine, great service, and the owner — who has been there for 24 years — is as authentic and great as her food!

I came here a few years ago and I still remember it vividly(though I wish I could erase it completely!). The other one star reviewers are right, this place is dirty. Gross. Disgusting. Don’t get me wrong, I love holes in the wall — they’re great places to find good food but I think this place is just quite honestly… a dump. Not only that, but I instantly felt like I was going to vomit just two bites into my meal. I have never felt so disgusted as I did in this place and I’m actually quite surprised how they’ve managed to stay in business. Stay away.

The interior of the Restaurant is musty and cluttered. Certainly not very clean. As for the food… It was a bit spendy, small portions and mediocre ATBEST. Example: the cashew chicken had very little chicken. 3⁄10.

If you want good athentic chinese food this is the place to go. I live in Arlington and this food beats any other place around by far. It’s made athentically and I usually order take out and just pick it up. She gives you ATON of food all different kinds. Its not a 5 star restaurant, its a small place but the food is worth eveerything. just try the food and you will always come back. The lady is very nice too, this is her restaurant and she works hard to give you real chinese, not just the generic crap you fin d at safeway. GOHERE. the other person that wrote the review is obveously more interested in a fish tank and lights than the actual FOOD, which is AMAZING. this place is my little secret :) LOVEIT

Excellent authentic Chinese cuisine in a casual family friendly environment. They offer an extensive menu including Dim Sum. The Hong Kong Restaurant is family owned and operated and has been serving the Arlington community for over a decade. My husband and I enjoy the variety and appreciates the authenticity. Dinner is in that 10 — 13 dollar per person range. The restaurant offers take out and delivery in the local area.
