Lofts 590 Apartments

Lived here for 2 years and was sad that I had to relocate for school reasons. I will truly miss living here.
Pros:
–Great location, right next the the mall, Pentagon city metro, Costco, Pentagon Center, UPS, 711, Harris Teeter
–Very, very clean. The cleaning staff is always polishing this, vacuuming that. Have never in two years seen the place looking anything short of spotless.
–Very nice front desk staff. Always greet you with a smile, any interactions I’ve had with them have been positive.
–I lived in one of the lofts. Modern design, big spacious kitchen, lots of windows for natural light, big mirrors in the bathroom
–Reading some of the reviews, some people thought the gym was too small – I didn’t feel that way at all. I guess it depends on what you’re looking for in a gym. I just needed somewhere with up-​to-​date cardio equipment that was clean and that I could access ²⁴⁄₇. I was perfectly content with the gym.
–Elevators were in good working order, and there’s enough of them that you don’t wait a long time for one.
Cons:
–Pricy (Bad in the sense that it’s expensive, good in the sense that most people that live there are professionals and not loud undergrads etc)
–Business center computers aren’t regularly maintained (no paper in the printer, mice not working, occasionally a computer will straight up not work)
–Dealing with the maintenance team varies. Sometimes it’s totally fine, other times you dread it. When we first moved in our dishwasher was malfunctioning. When they couldn’t fix it, they just switched it out with that of an empty apartment (overall doesn’t really solve the problem…) When that one didn’t work either, they finally got us a new one, but it took months for that to happen.
Overall I would recommend this place.

Please for your own peace of mind and wellbeing, avoid moving in here.
Need to know info:
–The management is made up of uncaring, rude personnel who only care about making a buck.
–The rent is astronomical considering the space and treatment you will receive. It also increased significantly each year.
–The amenities are not worth it — the «gym» is more like a large closet and is full of old funky equipment aside from being a claustrophobic space to begin with.
– The garage doors are often broken and either left unsafely open or you cannot get out because everyone is using the same door both in & out (again, unsafe!).
– The pool is fine, but they run out of pool passes before the pool even opens so if you miss out you’re screwed.
– Parking is 1spot per apt and $ 100/​month — pretty normal for the DC area. But there used to be free guest parking but again, to make a buck they’ve rented those spots to another building so there is nowhere for your friends or family to park.
– The lease terms are non-​negotiable and extremely rigid, once again so they can make the most $$ possible out of you AND potential new renters– ie: there will be an overlap of when we have decided to move out (good riddance) and someone else moving in yet they insist we still pay the overlap, even while they make even more money on someone else living there???
–one plus: the front desk personnel, while pretty clueless overall, are pleasant and usually around. They hold packages for you at the front desk and send a courteous email to let you know when they arrive.
– The last straw is that our unit suffered water damage a couple of months ago bc the guy upstairs’ water heater burst while he was out of town. There was nothing done at first to remedy the water that was pouring through our ceiling, soaking our furniture, carpet and belongings. Then they ripped up the bedroom carpet to «dry» it out with huge fans which proceeded to blow carpet funk all through our space. GROSS. No professional cleaning offered or completed, and then they SEWED the same old (& now formerly soaked) carpet back together, leaving seams in the middle of the floor, not to mention whatever mildew or other funk might now be growing there.
– The «cork» (aka laminate) flooring looks nice when you first move in but are nothing more than dark colored laminate flooring. And in our case, with the water damage is now peeling up and there has been no interest in fixing it on their end even if we did resign our lease. Lastly the ceiling is now damaged in two places that has been sloppily patched and looks awful. I could have done a better job myself. When I addressed the damage with the leasing office they stated that it didn’t influence our lease terms because their «guys could fix It all in a matter of hours» once we move out… Well that’s interesting considering the half assed approach that was taken to repair it WHILE WE LiVE THERE! Thanks for nothing, 590. Can’t wait to get outta this place. Spend your $$ ANYWHERE ELSE.
Ps you can get a great townhouse just down the road with 2 – 3 bedrooms for the same cost as a silly 1 bedroom apt in this «lofty» overpriced building. Not worth it.
Pss. Don’t even consider breaking a lease — they will not work with you and will charge you upwards of 1 AND a half month’s rent that literally goes into the ether. Just again bc it’s all about squeezing every dime out of residents and wherever possible.

One of the best location around here. Close to Costco and Pentagon. So, expensive.
But it is too small for me. Not enough storage. The kitchen has many shelves and is cool. The gym is small too. You can use the swimming pool of next apartment. That is big enough.
It is clean and the staffs are nice. But the space and price… Military discount is not that big like other apartments.

the staff at 590 have definitley treated me very well over the past 2 years. I recently purchased a new car, and the staff went well beyond the normal level of service to accomdate me during the process of acquring a parking pass. particular staff members trevor and floating manager Amy was very helpful and followed up with me at each step of the process. from getting me a temporary pass and leaving the pass with the receptionist for me to pick up after work, to emailing me update for my parking space reservation. and the follow ups just really made me feel that these people actually care about their residents. I couldn’t be more satisfied … and just for the record, i complain about every thing… so this is a bit new for me

Please reading what I wrote before you wanna live!!!
Their attitude is so bad! Last night I came there, my friend inventing me and he wants me to live in the lofts. I was sitting in «click café» wait for my friend. But the lady at the front desk kicks me out with rude manner! She said only a resident can enter and I must leave! She said I cannot stay in lofts within a minute!
I had never seen such an agent like that I pray to god I will never live there.
Lofts 590 is good at old time, but it is bad now!

Relatively expensive although not the highest rents in the neighborhood. Strange shapes for many apartments which means aged to use square footage. Seemed very noisy to me while I visited to look for an apartment. They must be pretty full because the leading staff appeared to often be off of site during usual business hours.

The first reviewer clearly loves dogs. Ok now that we’ve covered that, let’s talk about everything else, shall we?
I’ve lived in the Lofts 590 twice, and currently share a two bedroom apartment on one of the upper floors. Honestly, if I had known exactly what my situation was going to be when I was shopping around for a home, I would not have chosen to live here again, and this is why:
1. There must be a herd of elephants living directly above me. Because every morning and evening for 2 – 3 hours at a time, the ceiling sounds like it’s going to come crashing down and kill me. You can even see the track lights shaking as these people perform what can only be squat thrusts or marching band practice back and forth across their apartment. It has become unbearable, to the point where I’ve pondered the possible success rates of voodoo dolls, or just moving out. Did I mention they have exercise equipment that sounds like semi tractor trailers mowing through the living room everyday at about 6:30pm? Yes I’ve mentioned my absolutely misery to management, but unfortunately, there’s nothing they can do. I’m sure not everyone at the Lofts has this problem, and maybe the people above me aren’t actually the source of all evil. Maybe. But this is my specific situation and I’m sharing this with you so that you don’t end up being as hateful as me.
2. The smoke detectors are basically positioned on the ceiling so near to the stove that they activate almost every time you cook something. It’s pretty annoying when I’m in the middle of roasting a Thanksgiving turkey and cannot bring the temperature above 350 degrees unless I want to rip the smoke detector off the wall.
3. I literally have to walk an entire block to take the trash out because there is one trash chute and I have the misfortune of living on the other end of the building. So that regrettably leaky garbage bag is gonna drip all the way down the hallway as you transverse across the planet to throw it out, leaving a lovely stain on the carpet.
4. Middle single elevator with no stairs next to it not working because it’s stuck or someone is using it to move in? Have fun walking down to the trash chute to catch the only other set of elevators to get down into the garage.
That’s really about it for the cons of living here, and really, if I didn’t have to suffer with the marching band P90X squat thrust elephant herd on top of me, I’d be a lot happier. I’m sure if you look at other review websites, you will hear the same complaints about the thin floors. I’ve lived in several Archstone properties across Arlington over the past ten years, and this level of disturbance is by far the worst.
On a positive note, the staff is very friendly, and you recognize people around you because of the smaller number of residents who live here. (Unlike Crystal Towers which feels like walking through Costco on a Sunday afternoon) The amenities like the pool are great, and I promise your friends will envy your kitchen.
So my advice: Be smart about where you want to live by asking the right questions, big and small– because they all matter. And if you end up on one of the upper floors, don’t walk like a jackass and be cognizant of the people below.

This apartment is great if you have a dog! Not only are they pet friendly, but they actually truly love the dogs. On a side note, there are a LOT of dogs who live in the building so if you do not love dogs, this place is probably not for you. Honestly.
Also, the resort style pool is a wonderful getaway in the summer. You are only 5 minutes walk to the Crystal City or Pentagon Metros. The concierge keeps the place safe and they are always welcoming. I would absolutely recommend this building to any dog lovers out there!
