I love grilled cheese. The sandwiches are OK – sufficient enough to kill a craving; but not great enough to seek out. Probably 2.5 stars. I had the classic – cheddar, Jack, and tomato on Texas toast. It definitely was not grilled long enough because the cheese was barely melted, and it was on the smaller side. They don’t offer add-ons, like bacon. And if you think like I do – oh, a small bag of chips would be great with my sandwich – you’re out of luck here, because they offer some popcorn triangles and veggie sticks. Drinks are just water and three different Coca-Cola products. I’d not return, but it’s not an awful choice, if you must eat here.

So we decided to participate in the«food truck mayhem» here in the DC area since we’re still newbies to the area. Melted was our first experience. I had a hard time paying $ 7 for a simple grilled cheese, but figured it must be dayum good to be that expensive. I ordered a classic(cheddar, monterey jack, and tomato) and my daughter ordered a caprese(mozz, pesto, and tomato). 20 minutes and $ 14 later… I opened my sandwich which merely consisted of two thin pieces of bread, 2 slices of cheese, and a tomato slice that had the stem part in it. The cheese wasn’t even melted which is what I have always known a grilled cheese to be. Now I understand marking up prices to make a business work, but man they must be making bank. My grilled chess is 100x better. At least use texas toast or add some parm cheese spinkles to give the bread a «crunchy crust». I left not with a comforting feeling that grilled cheese is supposed to give… but left instead with a burnt hole in my pocket… ripped off. I won’t let this experience define food trucks as a whole in DC… moving on to the crêpe one!(I posted a pic to show the thin-ness and unmelted cheese)

Try their Apple & Bacon if you can(sells out fast) and get the homemade tomato soup to dip it in. A great combination that’s nostalgic and beats the mediocre lunch.
