Prior to this experience I’ve never had surgery. I made the initial appointment because I felt a lot of pain, itching and swelling in my left leg for several years and it had finally become too painful to ignore. Dr Sor was very patient and spent a great deal of time with me during my initial visit. I had 3 varicose veins that needed to be «collapsed» which was determined by ultrasound. He explained the VNUS Closure procedure and I was able to schedule my appointments for 3 days in a row with the help of his front office staff(this was a little confusing as they use both the computer and a hand written book). The staff was very kind and made sure I would not have to wear the support stockings longer than necessary(they have to be worn for 7 days after each procedure). The other concern was my insurance and the staff worked with me to be sure everything was covered prior to the surgery. On the day of the first procedure I waited for nearly an hour for the tech and nurse to prep me(general anesthesia, blood pressure and other vitals monitor, etc) and for the room to be prepared. I’ve never had surgery before, but as far as I could tell the tech, nurse and Dr. Sor were all very careful about following surgical protocols on each of the three days. Hair was covered, gloves were worn, my leg was completely cleaned and prepped, the surgical tools were opened from the plastic and set on the table, etc. The procedure was fast and mostly painless. My husband was unhappy on the first day, waiting in the office to give me a ride home(they were running late and with general anesthesia I had to have a ride). The second and third surgeries were on time and I was done much earlier than scheduled. The day after the third surgery one of the techs called to check on me. I was able to get back to life immediately after the surgery although my morning routine took much longer as I needed to remove the support stockings, shower, then put them back on. At the one week checkup my left leg was feeling better although it was a little tight where the veins were being«absorbed» by my body(two veins) but my right had more bruising and took a couple weeks longer to heal(one vein). At the one month checkup I scheduled a fourth surgery to remove a part of the vein around my left ankle(big, blue and itchy). This time a piece of the vein will be cut and removed. My appointment is next week and I expect this procedure to also be a success!
