Nuts and Bolts Hardware

Came because they were only one of the stores in the area that carried Benjamin Moore Paints. I used this paint on my previous house and knew what I wanted and had bought at an Ace store in Chicago previously. Walked in, asked the cashier where the paint department was. He pointed me in the right direction. Proceeded to stand at the customer service/​paint desk for 5+ minutes paint swatch in hand while two employees stood about 30 feet away in hardware and had a conversation. Neither of them ever looked in my direction. Weren’t but 10 customers in the store when I was there. While I was waiting I saw that it appeared their paint dept didn’t use computers to measure paint colors but was manual instead. I needed 2 gallons of paint so I was concerned about it matching. That finally did it. Took my chances and went to home depot with the paint swatch I got at Nut and Bolts. Was acknowledged immediately within coming into their dept. Served within 2 minutes, they had Benjamin Moore paints in their system already. I assume their business model is like Ace Hardware or True Value where you charge a premium but get amazing customer service (to the point of almost being stalked). Lost a $ 100 sale to a big box store.just.like.that.

I have shopped at most of the big boxes and smaller hardware stores in Arlington, which with very few exceptions do a decent job. I go to Nuts and Bolts for several reasons. Here are a few:
1. They generally have everything a homeowner needs, reasonably priced.
2. If they don’t have what I need they will order it and not bend me over with special charges. They will even make sure that I am in fact ordering the right tool/​product for the job.
3. On site ownership. You can tell the difference in a store when the owner is there working it.
4. Clean and well-​lit
5. Community involvement. They are generous to a fault in donating to help the community.

Nuts n bolts. Basically a smaller cheaper home depot. I went in there to find sprkay paint and saw a deal on 2 washer hose nozzles. I bought it. Took it home. Used it for bout 3 days and the rivets broke. I took it back and no questions asked they exchanges it for me. They said they have lifetime guarantee on those hose nozzles. Not bad considering most hose nozzles handles are held on by rivets. Great friendly place with free coffee and popcorn for kids. Clean and well lit.

The staff was super friendly, they offered a hot cup of coffee as I walked in and helped me find all the items I needed for my project with the upmost professionalism, great prices and a wonderful atmosphere! I will never need to return to home depot again

Personally, this is what I want in a hardware store.
My pet peeve is the mentality of bigger is better when it comes to hardware stores. I just want to buy a shovel, some packing tape and maybe some bolts without getting lost walking around in some large warehouse for a store. Now if I was a contractor and needed all sorts of special items, then sure– off to the Home Depot I’d go, but I’m not. So the local hardware store I will go– and this one is one of the better. Everything I will probably ever need– they’d have at Nuts and Bolts.
So ya, its big enough for me, its closer to home, the staff are friendlier (and know their stuff), and they offer free coffee and popcorn. Simple way to get me coming back.
